Very disappointing. Such a good cast, but a ridiculous storyline. It might have made a bit more sense if she had hinted at scandals in the village without mentioning names, and then everyone would be wondering who it could be. A shame, but I won't be watching next week.

So far I've found it enjoyable but a bit unrealistic, but then TV drama often is.

For some reason I find Maggie's daughter in law rather irritating.

BirthdayCakes · 12/03/2020 11:24

I think the casting of DF was a good idea - she's that woman at the school gates that 'everyone likes' except most are a little wary.. Talkative, thick skinned, big bright smile..

I enjoyed it - there's obviously more to come but TBH I'm just liking some wonderful scenery and a lighthearted script.. Its also great seeing Vicki Pepperdine, Mark Heap, etc Kerry Howard is usually very good too..

The80sweregreat · 12/03/2020 11:44

The doctor was good but I agree her dil is annoying! It is a bit dull but the scenery is great

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 12/03/2020 11:49

Don't know how many of you listen to The Archers, but, for those who do, I'm sure the annoying daughter-in-law is ringing a few bells Grin

Gnasher Natasha, anyone?

Liddell · 12/03/2020 13:46

For some reason I find Maggie's daughter in law rather irritating.

Me too! I don't know why!

pigsDOfly · 12/03/2020 13:57

I get the impression she's meant to be irritating.

She seems as if she's trying to niggle Maggie all the time.

Jakethekid · 12/03/2020 14:22

I am liking it. I like that at first we are supposed to judge maggie and people think shes this bad person but now we are seeing that all the people she talkimg about could potentially be even worse. The doctor has a dark side to her it seems and her best friend (even though calling her stupid was unfair) looks to have a mean side too!

I agree, daughter in law seems really quite mean. Shes constantly taking the piss and over stepping the mark, at least the son tells her to calm it down a bit.

AdoptedBumpkin · 12/03/2020 14:52

The weird thing about it is that Maggie and her husband are perhaps the nicest characters.

The scene with the horn made me laugh as it's the sort of thing I would do if I was trying to avoid someone.

The80sweregreat · 12/03/2020 15:04

Maggie isn't well meaning. She got drunk with a stranger and blabbed all their business. She didn't know he'd broadcast it I know, but she was still in the wrong and called her best mate ' not the sharpest tool' ! That is unforgivable in my book.
She was duped , but she shouldn't have let him get her drunk or been so mean about people.
I wish the dodgy landlord had stopped the meeting ! He knew the journalist was up to something as he was suspicious of him.
I think I'd struggle to forgive my friend if I heard this , but then I'm not keen on the truth!

pigsDOfly · 12/03/2020 16:47

I don't think Maggie is a nice character.

She's a terrible gossip and seems like a bit of a bully.

AdoptedBumpkin · 13/03/2020 00:32

Point taken. I wasn't entirely thinking things through.

WhatKatyDidNot · 13/03/2020 09:52

Yes. Maggie's going to be the lesser evil. It's a bit Midsommer Murders!

Standrewsschool · 13/03/2020 18:38

I’ve only watched the first one.

For a series that is meant to be lighthearted and even comedic, I felt it was quite dark and depressing. I hate seeing fall-outs.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/03/2020 20:22

I said previously I thought pub was same as coroner

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/03/2020 09:08

So doctor secret was wrong. As will the others

More juicy gossip

thenightsky · 14/03/2020 10:01

Knittingnanny Yes, I spotted ex-corrie murderer too. Wasn't he called Jed or Jez and he murdered Natalie Barnes?

Knittingnanny · 14/03/2020 11:10

Jed I think and in real life married that beautiful actress Jennifer James who played barmaid Gina
Can’t remember who he murdered but I remember thinking he was very good looking!

NCTDN · 14/03/2020 11:51

Yep Jez Quigley wasn't it?

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/03/2020 14:40

On tonight. Wondering who gets their story told tonight and how diff it is from magpies version 😂

FlatulantTrousers · 18/03/2020 21:56

First and foremost I have to say what a super episode tonight :) Beautifully written dialogue with such heart and warmth. I would be interested to see other projects by this writer.

Some great acting by Dawn French, Mark Heap and some other names I'm not sure of. Julie from corrie, the secretary and the handsome fella playing the writer all stood out to me.

Once again, huge praise for the little boy playing Tommy. His expressions and delivery in the classroom scene were brilliant. Special mention to the little girl sitting next to him too, who was pulling some cracking expressions in the background lol. Both of these completely outshine the boy playing Josh, who doesn't seem to have a strong acting ability at all sadly, which seems strange as he was billed in the Radio Times as being part of the cast, whereas the lad playing Tommy wasn't.

Once again I am frustrated by the Polish girl. She's so obviously not Polish, it's painful and she simply cannot act at all. Whoever cast her should be sacked. I am probably going to have to suck it up, but it's hard for me being Polish and longing for some decent representation in the community, only to be landed with this appalling performance!

Some minor niggles - wtf was Becka wearing? Who on earth thought it was ok to dress her like that? And who the hell shovelled on Kerry Howard's make up as if it were cement? It was very unflattering and ageing!

ElectricMartha · 18/03/2020 23:59

Surely if they’d put their minds to it they could have found an actual Polish child with some acting ability. It shouldn’t be too hard a job in a country with a fair amount of children of Polish ethnicity? The BBC are notorious for terrible casting when it comes to roles needing an accent. Radio dramas are awash with Brits putting on cringingly bad foreign accents. We are a country that’s supposed to be a melting pot so there shouldn’t be a shortage of suitably accented actors for these things.

FlatulantTrousers · 19/03/2020 02:32

Aha I am sorry, by girl I mean mid to late twenties, not a child.
