Very disappointing. Such a good cast, but a ridiculous storyline. It might have made a bit more sense if she had hinted at scandals in the village without mentioning names, and then everyone would be wondering who it could be. A shame, but I won't be watching next week.

OP posts:

Lovely scenery and some of the younger men are very easy on the eye but I don't think any producer of radio programming would allow this to go out would they? I know it's only a tv show etc etc but you need to suspend disbelief at that one. Nobody could be that cruel on people they don't know , surely?

Anyway, I felt sorry for her best friend (who is an excellent actress ) and still trying to work out who is who. The Polish daughter didn't sound Polish at all and the beginning where she was in her car waving at everyone reminded me of the opening scenes Paddington 2 with her waving cheerily at people.
That will all stop now!
Was ok , but it's six episodes so bound to be repercussions. Makes me wonder how it will pan out.

Cary2012 · 06/03/2020 06:43

I liked it, it's light and pretty and silly, so after all the other drama I love, which can be a bit (a lot) dark, it's a nice anecdote. Bit Doc Martin, but could get darker as it goes.
Will stick with it. Loved the Headmaster, remember him in Green Wing, trying to swing his doctor's coat as the cool doctors did!

MinesaPinot · 06/03/2020 09:32

It was mildly amusing but I agree, very much the Dawn French show. I found the character quite irritating to be honest.

Beautiful scenery though.

Me and DH will watch it again next week just to see the fall out, but I wouldn't worry if I missed it for any reason.

The80sweregreat · 06/03/2020 09:59

I'm shocked she said that about her friend really as they seemed so close. Even after a few g snd t's you wouldn't say any of this : it was hurtful and hinted at they had been close for years and years as well.
It is very silly.

Liddell · 06/03/2020 15:16

I enjoyed it!

I'm looking forward to next week.

There were a lot of characters in it I liked.

Jakethekid · 06/03/2020 16:14

Am I making this up or right at the very beginning did we see someone hit the front of a car bonnet?

All the way through I kept remembering this thinking ok this is going to take a twist and that was a flash forward sort or thing, but noone on here has mentioned that so now im thinking I made it to completely

pigsDOfly · 06/03/2020 16:31

No, Jakethekid you're right, I remember it too. When it happened I was a thinking 'ooh, what's that about, as it didn't seem to fit with the synopsis I'd read of the programme.

Hopefully, it will become clear as time goes on.

Didn't realise there were six episode.

The writers have really got to up their game if they want people to keep watching it.

butterpuffed · 06/03/2020 16:53

I liked Dawn French in Vicar of Dibley but she seemed to be playing virtually the same character in this and it was over twenty years ago , time has moved on.

The80sweregreat · 06/03/2020 17:06

I missed the very start of it.
Maybe she runs them all over because they won't forgive her? 😂
No idea. I'd be unhappy too if I heard the truth about me on the radio though! Nobody likes the truth really do they?
It Reminds me a of a book I read years ago where a man comes back to a town after writing a book about them all and it wasn't good! He upset all his old friends and everyone!

The80sweregreat · 06/03/2020 17:14

Maybe the horrible producer guy gets ' taken out' or the pub landlord gets his gang land bosses up from the 'smoke' to deal with them? It go a bit Eastenders!

Sacredcauses · 06/03/2020 17:16

Bland, bland, bland.
Gave up after 30 mins,
the whole thing was too trite.
That ridiculous drive through the village where she waves to absolutely everyone, and they all wave back.
Too twee for words.

Lovely scenery though.

The80sweregreat · 06/03/2020 17:19

If I waved at anyone round here all I'd get is a scowl and two fingers probably!
Or a suspicious look!

Jakethekid · 06/03/2020 19:39

Thank goodness it's not just me that noticed ! So it's set to take a twist atleast!

pigsDOfly · 06/03/2020 22:34

Hopefully there will be some twists, otherwise I don't think I'll be still watching it for 5 further episodes.

purpleme12 · 06/03/2020 23:29

I liked it it's just some light entertainment

And to previous poster I don't think times have moved on since Vicar of Dibley it was and always will be a classic

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/03/2020 08:46

It’s easy watching

I assume each episode will fix on one of the 6. Find out their story and either won’t be anything like her imagination

Or what she said is true

And that’s the twist 😂😂

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 09/03/2020 13:38

Oh I liked it and I'm pretty sure it was Dawn French's car that ran over a child(?) at the beginning.

The Polish daughter didn't sound Polish at all

We have a lot of Polish people round where I live and tbf the children start in reception with a heavy Polish accent/little English and when they leave in year 6 they are fully fledged Essex girls and boysGrin

EasyLifer · 10/03/2020 16:02

I've just watched, after reading this thread fast forwarded a lot of it up until the radio interview. I loved the dawning realisation of what they were hearing! I will watch again to see what happens. Absolutely loved the setting of her house.

longwayoff · 11/03/2020 21:24

Ohhhhhh. It's dreary.

thenightsky · 11/03/2020 21:59

I thought 2nd episode would see an increase in speed and interest. Wrong!

FlatulantTrousers · 11/03/2020 21:59

No no NO! I AM Polish (although lived in England since I was a kid). The shopkeeper's accent is either fake or the actor is bad and the girl neither looks nor sounds Polish. I get that we sort of lose our accents, but that girl is not speaking with a local accent. She's speaking with a posh one. And she's a TERRIBLE actress! It's a shame really, but I feel quite misrepresented by these casting choices. The writing is lovely, as is the scenery. The actors that are good are VERY good, but the ones that aren't are AWFUL.

Again, I think the little boy playing the weird kid, Tommy, is fab. However the kid playing...Josh is it? Ugh! Why is he talking like that and how did he even get cast?

pigsDOfly · 11/03/2020 22:59

Still not 100% sure about it after watching the 2nd episode but I suspect I'll watch the 3rd episode and probably to the end.

It's not great, but I've got nothing better to do on a Wednesday evening.

Notonthestairs · 11/03/2020 23:08

Well I've watched too many detective dramas recently- so much violence, abuse and bodies (mainly women's). I quite like having a change of pace, nobody is dead (yet) and some nice scenery.

purpleme12 · 11/03/2020 23:17

Yes I like it it's light entertainment and my god I need that now as well

Absentwomen · 12/03/2020 10:45

I quite liked it, although I do agree that Maggie is VoD two decades on. It was silly, but I get a feeling it's going to turn sinister.

Great to see some old faves. Lee Boardman and Julie Hesmondalgh.

I'll stick with it. Easy watching. DF is just very silly as most others have said, but there's something heart warming about it.
