Anyone watched it tonight? Thought it was fun and well-acted, love Jason Watkins. Perhaps two hours was a bit long, but I'll be watching next week.

Having read this thread yesterday I thought I'd give it a go. And bloody hell it was awful!!

stumbledin · 01/03/2021 13:15

hmmmmmmm ... I dont remember it being quite so silly. But on the other hand whoever wrote it seems to have extensive knowledge of the technicalities of hot air ballons, 80s culture, squatting rights, and ...

But I thought having a Dodds double sort of took away from the contrast between him and McDonald. (I love her facial expressions!)

And even watching on catch up ie no ads, it did seem a bit long.

But yes bonkers crime series. Surprised it isn't shown on a sunday evening like midsummer etc..

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/03/2021 13:55

Just watched and loved

Simple easy watching

Double bluff who was the murderer

Had to google balloon bloke. Course it was uncle from Gavin and Stacey 😂😂

Clever plot

Think s2 has 3 episodes so 2 more :)

PretendLife · 01/03/2021 15:54

JW will always be Gavin in Trollied to me.
Was that a Bristol accent he was attempting?

Standrewsschool · 01/03/2021 18:19

I thought Rob Braden was superb as the bumbling nerd.

Quite like the inspector bloke (#blush) and Martin Kemp (#blush).

LIZS · 01/03/2021 21:22

It was fun but way over long.

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/03/2021 21:04

I enjoyed it. I laughed at Martin Kemp's character's reference to Bob Geldof and Midge Ure.
I was also location spotting. I can see the hills in the background of the shots where the balloon took off from my bedroom window.

Whenwillow · 02/03/2021 21:28

I managed 10 minutes. Is it meant to be really bad? I can't decide if it was deliberate or not. DH watched it all just because he couldn't take his eyes off the awfulness of it.

2Rebecca · 02/03/2021 21:51

I liked it

RevolvingPivot · 03/03/2021 14:01

I thought it was a series is it just a one off?

RevolvingPivot · 03/03/2021 14:02

The black woman was in band of gold. Sorry don't know her name.

LIZS · 03/03/2021 14:04

Cathy Tyson?

diddl · 03/03/2021 18:17

What was the song playing when the four of them were in the cat at the beginning of the ep?

woodhill · 03/03/2021 19:55

Haircut 100 - Fantastic Day I think

diddl · 03/03/2021 21:29

Thanks-yes it was.

I'd missed the very beginning & when I looked on iplayer with subtitles it said!

Elderflower14 · 04/03/2021 21:32

I love Jason Watkins. My ds2 was lucky enough to watch him play Mr Twit in The Twits on Stage on London. A few years ago.

Cormoransjacket · 05/03/2021 18:20

Do we ever find out what Dodds' first name is? Even the credits just list him as DS Dodds while the other police officers have first names. We watched it in two halves as my maximum concentration span is only an hour on a good day.

Elderflower14 · 05/03/2021 18:48

Just looked at the Wiki page and he is listed as DS Dodds on there too....

Elderflower14 · 05/03/2021 18:50

It is shown at 8pm on Sunday nights...

I read it was filmed autumn last year so I guess they have different covid rules for filming TV? It's not like everyone was 2m from each other.

I also was wondering how it related in the actual story. The Martin kemp character mentioned making money due to covid so it existed in their fictional world, but was maybe supposed to be set after restrictions are all done?

Anyway I enjoyed it, enough twists and nothing gruesome!

mrsrhodgilbert · 07/03/2021 14:08

I was trying to work out when it was filmed, I thought in general the actors were very far from each other. Not the main characters, but the extras. The shots of Bath from the air showed it looking very quiet, not much traffic moving or people about. It was quite strange. I loved the music, I saw Japan in concert as a student. I just wish it was better, such a fantastic location and I think a failed opportunity to create a show that could become a classic.

Clawdy · 07/03/2021 22:10

Enjoyed tonight's, a clever ending, but I needed subtitles! Didn't last week.

OP posts:
Mollypolly2610 · 07/03/2021 22:53

I said it was her from the beginning!

Standrewsschool · 08/03/2021 07:53

Wasn’t so keen on last night’s episode, because it was fairly obvious. You knew from the start how he had died, and I guessed it was the culprit early on also. Last weeks was full of twists and turns, this week was more Midsomer Murders.

Also, they kept pronouncing the name as Dominique, which I though was a girls name, rather than Dominic. Also, needed subtitles.

theliverpoolone · 08/03/2021 12:27

@Standrewsschool he was French though, so the name Dominique was male French.

I enjoyed it, but titling the episode 'We need to talk about Doreen' pretty much gave away that Doreen was the one to watch!
