Anyone watched it tonight? Thought it was fun and well-acted, love Jason Watkins. Perhaps two hours was a bit long, but I'll be watching next week.

On planner

New detective shows I usually like

saveforthat · 01/03/2020 22:30

I thought it was a bit like Midsomer Murders but I love JW and love Bath so quite entertaining for a Sunday now no call the midwife

CoolCarrie · 01/03/2020 22:50

I loved it, a hell of a lot better than the rubbish that was The Stranger. Jason Watkins is always great in everything from comedy to drama and this had both. Definitely watching next week.

pigsDOfly · 01/03/2020 23:44

Yeah, loved it. Quite quirky with a nice comidic touch.

Will definitely be watching this one. Nice light watching, perfect for a Sunday evening.

lazymum99 · 02/03/2020 08:09

Great Sunday evening fare. I think we’ve got a 21st century British Colombo!

Starksforthewin · 02/03/2020 08:51

I also really enjoyed it.

Jason Watkins is great in everything and I thought the partnership was great.
Just good, straightforward, plot driven old school telly and perfect for a Sunday evening. Well played ITV!

Mrsjayy · 02/03/2020 08:55

I recorded hoping it will fill my Vera hole ! It looks inoffensive and Bath is a gorgeous city.

JillAmanda · 02/03/2020 08:58

Yep I recorded it - Jason Watkins is fabulous in everything he does (especially Herrick) and doesn’t get enough credit imo.

Someone mentioned Vera - I always WANT to love it but always find myself nodding off. Whatever the storyline I find it incredibly dull.

FLOrenze · 02/03/2020 10:39

I liked it. It was as plausible as Death in Paradise just light fluffy Sunday night tele. I did not understand his Crocker actually got the murderer to go to the house on that particular night. Can anyone enlighten me.

CoolCarrie · 02/03/2020 10:58

Very Colombo, seeing the murder at the start is a great plot device.
I think Crocker said he wanted to meet up with his son at a fancy restaurant so suggested that the son get some fancy clothes from the house, a bit unlikely but he maybe thought his father was excepting him at last.

FLOrenze · 02/03/2020 12:28

But how did he persuade the murderer to get her to go at that exact time?

pigsDOfly · 02/03/2020 12:54

Death in Paradise is a good comparison; you don't have to think too hard, it's light and fluffy and the plotting probably doesn't bear over analysis. But if you view it for what it is, I think it's very enjoyable.

It's definitely not on a par with Vera. Although, I agree JillAmanda sometimes Vera feels like very heavy going. I need to be in the right mood for Vera otherwise I just think, 'can't be doing with this'.

HaudMaDug · 02/03/2020 14:05

@FLOrenze
Thats exactly what I've been racking my brains trying to work out if I had missed a bit. Confused
But good light hearted telly all the same. I like these 2 hour episodes as they fill in my night nicely. (stops me from grazing in the fridge).

FLOrenze · 02/03/2020 15:22

Not just me then. I am the opposite with auto-suggestion. Death in Paradise makes me want a rum Cocktail. The programme the other night they Truth about Takeaways’ gave me a desire for Chinese. I bet loads of people dialled ‘Just Eat’ the minute the programme ended.

TreeTopTim · 02/03/2020 16:29

Just finished watching it. Thought it was quite good. I liked how it was 2 hours long. An hour wouldn't have been enough and I don't think I would have been interested enough to watch a 2-parter.

I can see their relationship grow into a strong bond.

Mrsjayy · 03/03/2020 07:47

We watched last night enjoyed it. Robert Lindsay was fab his wife pregnancy over acting thoughGrin

pigsDOfly · 03/03/2020 14:00

Yes, I thought the pregnancy bit was over done. All the face pulling and holding onto the bump as if she was hold it up with her hands; all a wee bit irritating.

Mrsjayy · 03/03/2020 14:41

I couldn't decide if the character was overdramtic or the actress was just a bit rubbish ! I did enjoy it and it passed a few hours.

pigsDOfly · 03/03/2020 15:21

I rather suspect that actress was a bit rubbish tbh Grin

Mrsjayy · 03/03/2020 15:25

Yeah Grin

Lllot5 · 03/03/2020 15:28

Talking if his pregnant wife. Was it me or was that bump a really odd shape and size?
Any way I really liked it.

pigsDOfly · 03/03/2020 15:31

Yes, it was odd. It looked like she was carrying a very large beach ball under her dress; perhaps that's why she kept on hanging onto it, maybe it was in danger of rolling away.

Mrsjayy · 03/03/2020 15:34

Yes i thought at one point she was faking she ordered the killing and she had a beach ball up her humph!

pigsDOfly · 03/03/2020 16:22

Ha ha, yeah, I thought she might be faking it. Great minds eh? Grin

Mrsjayy · 03/03/2020 16:33

Silly programmeGrin
