Race Across the World series 2

I loved this show last year and was very excited to see a trailer yesterday that seemed to show series 2 was coming soon and was located in the Americas? But Googling it has revealed absolutely nothing! I thought I'd start this thread so that fellow fans have a place to comment when we have more info.

If it is the Americas, it will stop the contestants just copying last year's journeys, although I must admit I think the Europe/Asia route will prove more interesting as there's such a great variation in cultures as you travel east. But I don't know much about South America so looking forward to being wrong, and I'm sure it will be just as exciting as the last series. It'll be the people that make it - loved Darron and Alex from last year and their changing relationship/bond!

@MrsWhites I’ve only watched it when in America. Not sure if you can get The Amazing Race here or not.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/04/2020 13:08

Where do they travel in the American one?

MiddlewoodWay · 29/04/2020 13:29

@thetoddleratemyhomework we really warmed to Jen and Rob. We were a bit worried she abandoned her lovely yellow coat at the end though and wondered whether she got it back 😄

pinksoda35 · 29/04/2020 13:41

The whole show would not have been the same without Jen and Rob-Jen especially! I found her highly entertaining and funny.
She made me giggle every episode.

rosegoldwatcher · 29/04/2020 14:02

@SleepingStandingUp - they always start and finish in the US and travel all over the world.
There have been 31 series so far. the 32nd is due for transmission this year.

Sadly it has never been shown on UK TV.

thetoddleratemyhomework · 29/04/2020 16:11

Middlewood, she definitely got her yellow coat back!!

MrsJamin · 29/04/2020 16:12

@kingkuta you do know she's a real person, with feelings, that was in a highly stressful situation and filmed and edited by people who would choose to show only interesting bits? I don't understand why you'd share such a nasty sentiment. I'd like to see how you'd cope in those situations.

MiddlewoodWay · 29/04/2020 16:38

@thetoddleratemyhomework thank you!

Honeyroar · 29/04/2020 16:50

The American one travels much further. They are allowed to fly. So they encounter many languages and cultures. They’ve done Europe too. They quite often have mad dashes against each other to the check points (along the lines of the uk one’s final) because the last couple to arrive at each check point is eliminated. The people in the race are often lacking in common sense/cultural awareness and fall out with each other a lot!

kingkuta · 29/04/2020 17:05

@MrsJamin I've no idea why you have singled me out out of all the previous posters who did not take to Jen but I'm perfectly entitled to express my opinion that she was irritating. That's what we're all doing here, expressing opinions about the show and contestants.
I'd like to see how you'd cope in those situations
Well I backpacked around the world for a year without being a total bitch to my husband so alot better than her!

HeronLanyon · 29/04/2020 17:15

I am assuming series three will prevent bartering (i think I’d take some ounces of gold or some Bose speakers or a diamond ring) plus introduce a rule that backpacks and belongings must be carried/worn to all checkpoints. Not at all suggesting anything improper. Loved the winners and their ingenuity throughout. Noticed a statement from production confirmed there was no series two Rule about bartering. Interesting.
Jen - well I kept feeling mixtures of sympathy, fondness, exasperation and anger about her behaviour. I was surprised by the fondness but there was something endearing in amongst the less positive stuff. Good she and rob are together and happy. Good.

HeronLanyon · 29/04/2020 17:15

Um headphones not speakers Grin

BoswellsBollocks · 29/04/2020 17:17

I really liked Jen, so there.

HeronLanyon · 29/04/2020 20:01

boswell (steps?) For sure she was a character and I loved her for that. Really liked her insight and then found it endearingly familiar that she wasn’t able to use it to change what she didn’t like about herself. Bloody familiar !

NCTDN · 30/04/2020 18:49

@HeronLanyon where do you find notes about the producers? Is like to see them.
I like Jen but glad the others won. Disappointed to have missed them in breakfast TV and went to watch on iplayer but it's only available for 24 hours.

HeronLanyon · 01/05/2020 05:23

NCTDN - I did a simple google search (I was trying to remember series one winners) and came across media story about series 2. There was an excerpt from rules and comment from production team. Nothing more interesting I’m afraid.

Cruddles · 01/05/2020 13:04

Where do they travel in the American one?

The American one is very much a race. There's a lot more couples at the start and each stop the last team is eliminated. Every one is very competitive as there's a big money prize for the winner, so there's lots of shenanigans with teams trying to sneak past other teams or put them off their plans, certainly very little friendliness going on.

Also the American version has local tasks that must be done, this is really where the race is won or lost. The tasks are usually linked to a local cultural activity to where they are, some teams can complete quickly while others are there for hours unable to finish it. Also teams can win items which they can use to skip doing tasks, get shortcut information, or force another team to wait at a point for a period of time. So there's a lot of tactics going on.

The similarities to the UK version is not knowing where they're going next until departure, starts based on previous finish times, and having to sort their travel out. Otherwise they're fairly different once they get moving.

megletthesecond · 01/05/2020 16:32

I liked Jen too. She had lots of positive points. She was gradually turning into a hippy traveller with her flowery hairband.

MaggieFS · 01/05/2020 16:55

As with everyone in life, it's very much each to their own as to whether you like/get on with/loathe someone.

What I found funny about Jen, who I've liked, was that I could also see a lot of similarities between her and me. Worryingly, DH announced in the first five mins of the final that he thought she was insufferable Hmm

Honeyroar · 01/05/2020 19:28

She drove me mad when she was having her over emotional moments, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like her when she was calmer. As with Maggie, I could see bits of myself in her and my husband really didn’t like her!! Same with Lizzie. I did think she was pathetic when her brother was ill, I wouldn’t want her around in an emergency, and I found her a bit strange initially, but like all the characters, they grow on you as you see more of them.

Traviis · 02/05/2020 02:58

@peppermintcapsules thank you for the series 1 spoiler Hmm

Cruddles · 02/05/2020 06:13

Series 1 happened a year ago, you can't complain about spoilers

Traviis · 02/05/2020 06:35

Normally I’d agree, but there have been multiple requests/suggestions that it not be spoiled on this thread.

BeMoreZenLike · 02/05/2020 06:40

Applications are open for series 3 if anyone fancies?
