Just seen that my post was 999, so though I should open a new one. Not meaning to tread on anyone's toes - except Gary/Ryan/Geoff etc.

@Mollypolly2610 that was it !!!

nildesparandum · 11/04/2020 00:33

I cannot stand Gemma she makes my teeth itch. She must be the most unlikable soap character ever and that's saying something
Whoever dreamed up the quads story needs sacking.
Where is poor Joseph? The writers seem to have completely forgotten he exists.

Mollypolly2610 · 11/04/2020 00:42

@joydivisionovengloves71

I thought the writing tonight was so childish

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 11/04/2020 00:53

It really was. They must have let the work experience kids write it.

Roussette · 11/04/2020 07:46

The thing is, I think the quads story is so unrelateable. We might know someone with twins, but I doubt many people who watch it know someone with quads.

And they keep throwing storylines at it. The nasty mums opposite. That's finished. I feel they went down the PND route because they couldn't think of anything else. Then her Mum comes back with a complete personality transplant. I bet they wish they never went down the quads route, it was never sustainable. I'm guessing it's going to get more and more silly.

Loved Ken's snarl when he said he was going to run for the Man-in-charge role at Murky Waters!

joydivisionovengloves71 · 11/04/2020 10:10

I don't even get why she can't cope. One baby cries every now and then and she just folds a bit of washing!
If they'd shown her trying to make Joseph's tea with one in each arm screaming the place down it'd be more believable. Chesney's so gormless, I bet he doesn't even know how babies are made. He just stands there wondering how all this happened!

I'm guessing they found a reject from Michael McIntyre's roadshow for last nights episode

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 11/04/2020 10:22

I don't even get why she can't cope

I don't think that's really how it works? They're trying to portray post natal depression and such. This isn't linked to how often babies cry or how much washing there is, tho those things undoubtedly don't help.
Think of depression in general, you wouldn't say to a person with depression they have no reason to be depressed would you?

eggandonion · 11/04/2020 11:13

I also think the amount of hormones floating round in a quad pregnancy and after would be huge, and that a health visitor would be alert to the stresses of a multiple birth. It's an interesting topic for a documentary, just not for a soap opera which is patchy in its writing and acting.

scaryreading · 11/04/2020 11:15

But the portrayal is so unrealistic anyway. It's hard enough to cope with one, she wouldn't have time to do any washing let alone fold it.

Winding and feeding takes ages then settling, changing etc.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 11/04/2020 11:26

PND is usually caused by the hormones in your body after giving birth. It can be situational too or a combination of both but it’s entirely possible to have 1 very easy baby, a supportive husband, loads of great friends and still be depressed.

eggandonion · 11/04/2020 11:34

Would four babies not make you even more hormonally unbalanced than one, let alone the stresses of trying to look after them, whilst staying to stay awake! Now I feel sorry for her, despite her grimness

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 11/04/2020 11:46

Yeo- she’s definitely got the odds stacked against her depression wise.

Tbh the thought of 4 babies would have sent me into ante natal depression before they were born!

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 11/04/2020 11:46

Yep= yep

joydivisionovengloves71 · 11/04/2020 11:47

The scriptwriters must thing you're more likely to have it if you're overwhelmed with loads of babies, obviously they know nothing about hormones.

It could have been a great storyline with just the one. There'll be women watching who feel even worse that they can't cope with one baby, let alone four.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 11/04/2020 11:53

I don’t think they’re saying you’re more likely to have it with 4 babies. (Although why wouldn’t you be?) I think they’re just running a PND story and Gemma is the only one whose recently had a baby.

eggandonion · 11/04/2020 11:58

I think they did it years ago with Claire peacock? It's a good topic, but maybe the quad story and gemma aren't the right place and family?
If the Geoff story is working well with expert input, maybe this one lacks expert input?

eddiemairswife · 11/04/2020 12:00

I think anyone would be depressed if they were married to Chesney.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 11/04/2020 12:07

Yes I think Gemma is a poor choice to portray the story. She’s a bad actress.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 11/04/2020 13:39

What nonsense. They should have left the bus go off with the quads and pretend that storyline never happened.

Also it’s Emma’s fault Ken didn’t renew his pet insurance?! Ffs.

scaryreading · 11/04/2020 13:44

Ken and his family i.e. Tracey were selfish for leaving Eccles with Emma in the first place. Surely Ken would have more idea of the poor dog's health.

So ungrateful and rude to Emma, as if she magicked up the tumour in the poor dog

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 11/04/2020 13:47

Emma said something about Seb playing with his joystick in a darkened room too Envy

nildesparandum · 11/04/2020 21:31

The quads story has been very badly researched.

thenightsky · 11/04/2020 22:30

I think they probably went with quads so they could pursue the Freshco/local celeb storyline. Twins would not have been unusual enough.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 11/04/2020 22:45

The freshco four.
