For those interested Danny Mac is on Saturday Kitchen on ITV today.

For anyone else interested in Danny Mac, I saw last night that he's going to be in the new Pretty Woman musical on the West End! Starts Feb 2020.

MyNameIsJane · 15/12/2019 12:25

@Theromanempire I think they must have checked in to a hotel for the following night as the 10 pm people looked very glam on their return. Beautiful hair (bare legged as well! 🥶). I think those behind Tess must have won competitions as they were allowed their phones as they were having photos taken by crew in the non filming parts at the judges desk or the stage.

MyNameIsJane · 15/12/2019 12:29

Thank you @DasherDancefloorPrancerKitchen, I am truly honoured.

Thank you all for being my strictly companions over the years. Long may it continue!

Theromanempire · 15/12/2019 12:57

jane thank you for answering my question- that makes sense! I bet the atmosphere was electric last night Smile

VanyaHargreeves · 15/12/2019 13:00

Ringers have become standard only in recent years.

Early series full of crappos and it made it funny in a cringe way, very British entertainment.

Eg Jan Ravens fell over
Fi Phillips refusing to move and having to be carried.
And loads more

Also it was far more honest in terms of partner relations.

The audience were TOLD Sarah/Brendan, Georgina/James, Patsy/Anton, Laila/Anton Gary/Karen weren't getting on.

We were also told when they were carrying on

It wasn't LET'S PRETEND IT'S ALL MAHVEERELOUS FOR THE CAMERAS DAHLINGS

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 15/12/2019 13:06

Has anyone done puppy warz? Has a long dead dog becomes the inspiration for a verruca-spreading contempwaft? Is there more of that barrel to scrape?

cordelia16 · 15/12/2019 13:08

For those saying Karim is fake (and for those who said same about Saffron), is it an age thing? These two were my faves from day one, and I honestly didn't see anything fake about either of them. I saw enthusiasm and genuine joy at being in the competition. Yes, they sometimes came across as overzealous puppies, but they're young! (I'm 54 btw.)

Karim was very honest before his CC that he had gone to theatre school. Maybe the contestants are told what they can/cannot say (ie, don't talk about too much experience). Emma certainly didn't talk about her time in Chicago, and yet she's not slated for being fake. Kelvin did have some ballet training, yet he never said "oh well I did some ballet as a child, but ballroom/Latin is so much different." He also deleted a lot of his tweets, so doesn't that make him fake?

Also, if the producers asked Karim (and Danny Mac and Alexandra Burke and Jay McGuinness) to be on the show, then they knew full well they had previous experience and wanted them to raise the standard of competition. Ppl praise Jay even though he attended theatre school (from his wiki page: From the age of 12, he pursued his love of performing by attending the Charlotte Hamilton School of Dance in Newark. As his love for the performing arts grew he attended the prestigious Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama in Carlton near Nottingham), yet they criticise Karim for the same thing. I don't get it.

I'm genuinely curious why some ppl are viewed as fake, while others are not.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 15/12/2019 13:08

All very good points @VanyaHargreeves - totally agree.

Thanks for the update @MyNameIsJane - sounds fab! Was Vernon there? I've often wondered if he's there with their kids as they must be old enough now to watch!

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 15/12/2019 13:10

Motsi makes Bruno appear to have gravitas.

This, I am horrified to concede, says it all.

we also need a full on toddler battle for the ones who bring in their winsome children.

Excellent, Equanimitas! I can see this taking shape already.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/12/2019 13:15

Karim was very honest before his CC that he had gone to theatre school

Actually he wasn't

Said

  1. Never danced before/bit of ballet
  2. Went to "a drama school"

Reality :

Went to a Professional Theatre School were dance is integral to the curriculum for the last year of Primary and all of secondary.

Can't understand why people won't process this fact.

And people find him fake because he is OTT a trait doubtless picked up at Theatre School

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 15/12/2019 13:19

holding marquee where there was a bar, souvenir shop and a photo booth

Souvenir shop?

Can you get little nodding Antons for the parcel shelf in the car?

There was a point where Bruno found a bottle of windolene under his desk while we were on air (during a balcony shot) so really hammed it up until floor manager confiscated it.

WHY WAS THIS NOT BROADCAST? THE PUBLIC HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW!

(I really would have loved to have seen "Bruno Tonioni - The Windolene Years" Xmas Grin)

kazzaD66 · 15/12/2019 13:24

So pleased with the result.
Kelvin and Oti's showdance was by far the best and I liked that they had a slow section in the middle to counteract the very fast beginning and end.

Emma looked uncomfortable and stiff in her showdance and I could barely watch Karim's contempowaft (or, as I call it, contemptowaft, because contempt is what I feel for most of the contemporary dances Grin)

Karim bugged me for doing his usual hogging of the limelight, being front and centre in the Clauditorium whilst she was trying to interview K and O, and then sprinting across the floor as soon as the result was announced. He was the furthest away from K and O, but a white suit appeared stage left before K and O had even had a chance to embrace each other, before it seemed, someone yanked him away so Kelvin and Oti could have their moment!

Kelvin said some lovely things to Oti, esp about seeing why she is such a popular pro. He just seemed really genuine, as opposed to the usual soundbites and meaningless platitudes that so many have spouted over the years.

Honourable mention for Graziano for carrying Kelvin on his shoulders. Wow! Grin

Liked that Claudia said that Kelvin's dad would be dancing next year Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/12/2019 13:39

kazza - I really liked what Kelvin said to Oti about understanding why she's such a fan-favourite. I felt it connected not only with her but showed his awareness of how we, the viewers, perceive it too. I just felt that they were both really respectful and genuine in what they said rather than the weeping "we'll be best friends forever" stuff.

Cordelia - Jay came in for a HUGE amount of stick for being a ringer in his year. As did Alexandra, Debbie McGee, Danny Mac. It's just not the case that ringers have been universally loved up until now and all of a sudden everyone's picking on poor little Karim.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/12/2019 13:41

In the hopes that a producer of SCD is also a MNer...

Who would we like to see on future series, bearing in mind being realistic about the lower end of Slebrity and people they could get that people will actually have heard of.

Martin Kemp
Martine McCutcheon
Katherine Ryan or Shappi Khorsandi
Gino DiCampo
Nicola Adams
Danny Dyer
Rylan
Amir Khan

Etc

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 15/12/2019 13:42

Mohr
Move to a one bed to keep the adult kids out? That’s too cruel. Someone call social services.

kazzaD66 · 15/12/2019 13:42

Kelvin was obviously embarrassed by some of the judges. I said to DH, if a male judge acted or said some of the things that Motsi, Shirley especially (and, frankly at times, Bruno) say to a female celeb, all hell would break loose Hmm

VanyaHargreeves · 15/12/2019 13:44

Ooo Victoria Coren Mitchell is another shout

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 15/12/2019 13:47

Please, not Danny Dire!

kazzaD66 · 15/12/2019 13:48

Can't stand Danny Dyer - neither father nor daughter.

cordelia16 · 15/12/2019 13:50

thanks @TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross. I was overseas during Jay's year, so didn't know that. But whenever anyone talks about Jay now, it always seems to be that he was amazing, his jive was amazing, etc. I hadn't seen any ringer comments about him. Guess it's water under the bridge by now.

I saw the tail end of Danny's year, but do know that Alexandra and Debbie got loads of ringer comments. For me, it's not about poor little Karim - just wondering why he came across as fake when others with experience hadn't.

Redcrayons · 15/12/2019 13:52

Just caught up. This might be the martini hangover talking but I loved it all!

I wasn't too surprised at the result, Kelvin and Oti were the obvious Favourites. Emma was the weakest dancer and Karim has suffered by being too good. The ringer never wins.

Theromanempire · 15/12/2019 13:52

kazza me and DH had exactly the same conversation about how a male judge would be slated for dribbling over a female contestant like Shirley did with Kelvin. Double standards Angry

cordelia16 · 15/12/2019 13:52

@VanyaHargreeves - didn't Karim mention the name of his school in the VT before the CC? That's what I meant when I said before. I know he hadn't said anything in previous weeks.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/12/2019 13:53

No just "drama school" but showed a picture in full uniform.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/12/2019 13:55

I would have said the same RE Danny Dire but his Who Do You Think You Are was genuinely TV gold...

Alternative suggestions ??
