We lived in a similar house and it cost850 quid to rewire. Then when the wallpaper came off,a wall fell down.
The house cost 18,500 in 1988, complete with elderly lady furniture.

More people could afford houses though in the 90,s ,even on low wages ,I don't know what their wages would be? As a newly qualified nurse in 96 my wage was around £12,000/ year ,even if they only earned that between them , Jack and Vera sold it for £25,000 so I imagine it would have been affordable?

I think the mortgage for a person with a permanent job was 2.5 times salary, for a couple they were allowed half of the second salary. My dh was on a contract, so we got a mortgage of his salary which was 14k. That's crazy, looking back.
The amount of lunchtime drinking is fascinating.

Yes I'm fascinated by the lunch time drinking , kev probably has two or three pints with his lunch and then goes back to fixing cars, Rita manages to run the cabin after a few vodka and tonics , I like a drink but if I drank at lunchtime I would just want to go to bed for a nap!

Just got to the Denise and Brian episode 😮 was not expecting that!

I know there was supposed to be a comic irony in Ken finding Brian deathly dull, yet Denise still finding him more exciting than Ken - but bloody hell, is he really the best she could do? Also, Alison is such a wet weekend that I can’t really feel sorry for her. I think she drove Brian to cheat with years of boil in the bag meals and shapeless polyester high-neck blouses.

Yes he is a scumbag I hope Vicky is living her best life in Cheshire now. Dh (who is on his wfh teabreak) likes Vicky and Raquel but isn't happy with the Denise/Brian/Ken thing.

Why on earth does Fiona believe herself to be goddess-like?? I mean, she's attractive but what's with the constant focus on her looks? Today it was 'you're only interested in me for my looks aren't you?, you don't see beyond the surface' and there's been similar comments in the past.

I think Andy on the other hand is fit. Though his character is meant to be quite unattractive 🤦‍♀️.

Fionas daughter is more attractive in my opinion and a much nicer person. In fact, Andy should have been her dad!

Yes I agree abou Fiona while she's a pretty enough girl but so are Maxine and Vicky etc she's not as stunning as she thinks she is ,I think Andy is supposed to be portrayed as so much less attractive than Steve but actually he's not .

Whilst watching Friday's episodes early yesterday morning I heard Rita talk to Ken and she described Daniel as his 'son and heir'. What about Peter and Susan? Rita may have appeared in the Street after they had been sent away - that was before my watching started.

Isn’t that just something you might say about a child? What about Tracy as well? I don’t see why you would feel the need to list all his other children before using the phrase ‘son and heir’.

Multiple birth seems frequent in the street, with Susan and Peter, Steve and Andy, and so on. I wonder what the statistics are.

And she doesn't get much better ,but to be fair Ken,s a crap dad too ,he hasent seen Susan or Peter in years ,and doesn't seem to care ,mind you Bill Webster had,nt seen Kev for the years either
