OP posts:
WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/02/2020 17:38

Ooh yes! Martin ran Weatherfield General single handedly, didn't he Grin

x2boys · 14/02/2020 17:44

Yes he was the only nurse in the hospital and trained in every speciality, wether you were going in for an operation, going to A&E because you had broke our leg ,having a baby young or old Martin was there ,surprised he didn't deliver Sally,s baby actually 🤔

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/02/2020 18:17

I like you x2boys!

You have a wicked sense of humour!

cherrytree63 · 14/02/2020 18:32

Martin was the Sonia Fowler prototype.

x2boys · 14/02/2020 18:33

Why thank you @WheresThatCatGoneNow!

DixieLandReject · 15/02/2020 09:04

Yes I’d like to know Mikes backstory. I wonder if it’s ever been mentioned?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/02/2020 10:35

Perhaps Mike tried - and failed - to be a big shot in London, so came to Manchester to become a big fish in a much smaller pond.

Just a theory Grin !

thenightsky · 15/02/2020 11:02

Didn't Mike's dad make an appearance at one point or am I imagining that?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/02/2020 11:09

Not sure about Mike's Dad, but I seem to remember that a lot of other Baldwins turned up in the early 2000s.

Hazy memories of Bradley Walsh? Or am I imagining things now? Confused

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/02/2020 11:21

I know I could google all of this stuff, but I'm consciously trying not to!

I don't want to spoil all these lovely episodes by knowing exactly what's going to happen next, if you see what I mean.....

x2boys · 15/02/2020 11:23

No your not imagining it, Bradley Walsh ,turned out to be yet another of Mike,s long lost sons , I don't remember how's it came about but I think.his mum was married to Mike's brother?and Mike had an affair with her and the Bradley Walsh character ( I want to say Danny Baldwin?) Was the result of the affair .

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/02/2020 11:37

Ah, that makes sense. I'm remembering a bit more now.

Bradley Walsh was married to Frankie (Debra Stephenson IIRC) and they had a son - Jamie? - who was the new street heart-throb for a while.

I seem to remember Frankie and Vera Duckworth became good mates.

Mammatino · 15/02/2020 13:49

I'm just catching up... How was Mike a womaniser? How was Ken for that matter? We had low standards didn't we? I love watching this and listening to your tales of what was happening. I was around 15,haf a dodgy perm and wore a white silk top hat my dad brought me back from Paris... With my DMs and floaty skirts. Bet lynch is one of the greatest characters ever written or acted. I do agree @wheresThatCatGoneNow Julie Goodyear not so nice and just so you know my massively over weight mine coone is polishing off a tin of tuna and my kitten is pretending to be a scarf and watching corrie with me.

Mammatino · 15/02/2020 14:02

Alma. Shame on you!! You watched your husband rinse that boy and then you threw him out. Shame shame shame.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/02/2020 15:37

Oooh! Maine Coon. Nice 😸!!

How big? Any chance of a pic, please?

I used to have a Norwegian Forest Cat - very similar, I think.

Redglitter · 15/02/2020 15:40

Derek's a horrible character. I didnt remember him being so nasty. Good to see Mavis sticking up for herself though

x2boys · 15/02/2020 15:47

I think Derek and Mavis have a good relationship ,they are clearly besotted with each other ,they wouldn't be attractive to anyone else but they make me laugh that they both get so jealous!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/02/2020 16:50

It's endearingly comical how Mavis and Derek both believe that each other are so devastatingly irresistible to everyone else.... if you see what I mean Confused!! (I haven't phrased that very well, but I hope you get the gist)

She calls him passionate (like Heathcliffe) and he describes her as 'a siren' 😂

It's really quite sweet.

Redglitter · 15/02/2020 16:54

I hate the way he talks down and ridicules her. Mind you they're at least a believable couple unlike Deirdre & Samir. I find I'm fast forwarding their scenes now. Hes a dreadful actor & theres just no chemistry what so ever between them.

Isnt it strange seeing all the children on CC who still feature now in the current shows as adults.

x2boys · 15/02/2020 18:45

Yes I agree @Redglitter Deirdre and Samir are completely unbelievable as a couple they don't look right together ,mean there's at least ten years between Gail and Martin but they make a believable couple ,but Deirdre and Samir just no ,maybe it's because she dresses so mumsy ?

Mammatino · 15/02/2020 18:54

Derick is so pompous and thinks he's so much better than women. I love it when Rita puts him in his place. Agree about deirdre, no chemistry at all and we have all seen her passionate embraces with Mike.

We aren't speaking to the cats, they've opened a tupperware box and made off with the chops. We have had chips and ruddy chicken nuggets... Which they've been eyeing up.

x2boys · 16/02/2020 09:57

Yes Derek is very pompous ,but I do like how he can't see his own faults and Rita is very funny with him.

DixieLandReject · 16/02/2020 10:00

Mikes backstory Grin

Patch23042 · 16/02/2020 20:12

I remember the baby being called Lauren, and then it was changed because Rosie insisted on “Sophie” I think.

I get the impression that Anne Kirkbride feels awkward about her character kissing Samir. The lack of chemistry is very clear. She married the guy who played her boyfriend after Ken left for Wendy Crozier (Dave?) so plenty of chemistry there !

Curly is actually appalling. Sleazy behaviour towards any woman who as much as smiles at him.

x2boys · 16/02/2020 20:25

Yes I vaguely remember the baby being called Lauren and then changed to Sophie ,I think it was because housemate ( we were student Nurses) was outraged they changed the name as her sister was a Lauren ,strange the things out remember!Yes he sleazy he doesn't make things easy for himself .
