Fed up of seeing Martin at home , etc in his uniform, this is now not allowed!

Mammatino · 13/02/2020 16:23

Oh Mike Baldwin you sneaky creature!! I am absolutely loving Mavis being like cat nip to men. I want to wring Dericks bloomin' neck, he is appallingly wonderful. It's strange looking back though at how values have changed and what was acceptable behaviour. God women put up with alot!!

BarkandCheese · 13/02/2020 16:36

I’ve stated watching this again after a break of a few months (or about two years in their world I think). This is a really top era for Corrie, fab characters and great writing, some of the scenes with Bet and Raquel could be a play in their own right.

Though I’d completely forgotten the early 90s love of lime green and acid tangerine clothing, and I’m not sure I wanted to be reminded 😆. Even Betty isn’t immune, she was sporting a fetching lime green cardie last week.

x2boys · 13/02/2020 17:47

I was a bit alternative n the early 90,s so I don't really remember the vibrant colours it was all long flowey skirts ,short dresses teemed with my beloved Doc, martens

TheSquitz · 13/02/2020 18:28

I didn't appreciate just how brilliant Julie Goodyear was first time round.

SapatSea · 13/02/2020 18:57

Mavis was a tour de force this week!! I think first time round I was so distracted by how out there and out of date Bet's bun was that I didn't appreciate how fantastic Julie Goodyear was. I also thought Corrie was going downhill at this point compared to the 70's and 80's. Ha, it's like Shakespeare now compared to the current Corrie crap (which I've stopped watching but caught a bit of inadvertently last night, utter drivel)

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 13/02/2020 21:37

SapAtSea - Yes!

Everything you just said is spot on.

I haven't watched Current Corrie for months now (the last time was when Debbie Webster visited Kevin - because I think Sue Devaney is such a talented actor, and isn't on TV enough!)

But Classic Corrie is something that I actually look forward to watching. I usually record all the episodes during the week, and have a five-hour binge on Saturday afternoon.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 13/02/2020 21:47

De lurking, most of theses episodes are new as I stopped watching around this time, haven’t watched the new one for months.

DixieLandReject · 14/02/2020 06:06

Sap like Shakespeare Grin

It was funny when gail was talking about Nicky living the life of Riley and she mentioned him having scrambled eggs as though it was the height of luxury!

Mammatino · 14/02/2020 06:58

@DixieLandReject.Don bought him a microwave last week so as Gail said "he can have a burger in the middle of the night if he wants". A microwave burger, now that's decadence.

DixieLandReject · 14/02/2020 07:20

A burger in the middle of the night Grin whatever next!

DixieLandReject · 14/02/2020 07:22

I think Gail was a bit harsh on Don when she bollocked him in the St. At the end of the day, Nicky isn’t a blood relation and Don is trying his best.

SapatSea · 14/02/2020 09:14

The Gail/Martin/Nicky story is a bit disjointed. Neither parent seems to be making a big effort to understand Nicky or try to build bridges. They "just throw up their head" when he doesn't want to go to Blackpool and totally back off.

How grim is Curly??? "a lovely lad", no he is not! All the men on Corrie seem vile.

I loved seeing Angela, love that actress, she was great in House of Cards (BBC original version)

SugarStealer · 14/02/2020 09:48

I also love Bet. Didnt realise it when I watched when I was younger but she is my favourite character.

DixieLandReject · 14/02/2020 10:06

I’ve got a soft spot for Mike Baldwin. I know he’s a git but I can’t help but like him. I love it when he shows his soft side with Deirdre.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/02/2020 10:16

Don bought a video recorder aswell - remember when those were considered the epitome of luxury and fiercely coveted?

Presumably Nicky can now watch films all night while he's scoffing his microwave burgers Grin

No wonder he doesn't want to go home....

x2boys · 14/02/2020 10:22

Yeah we didn't get one though untill.about 1990 long after everyone else I was really jealous when all.my school friends could take neighbours ( when they only showed it at lunch time ) and I could only watch it in school holidays 😏,now real luxury for Nicky would be if Don got Sky tv , my boyfriend at the time parents got it in about 1992 I thought it as the height of sophistication😂

x2boys · 14/02/2020 10:23

Tape Neighbours*

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/02/2020 10:24

I ❤❤❤ Bet too!

Julie Goodyear was/is brilliant. Tragedy or comedy, she can do it all.

x2boys · 14/02/2020 10:36

Yes she was a fantastic actress but then so,s Rita and Mavis .

justthecat · 14/02/2020 16:43

Love the character Bet, but Julie Goodyear was awful when she was on celeb big brother. Mike reminded me of Del Boy today

x2boys · 14/02/2020 17:06

Hes so devious isn't he ,Mike ? Nobody really likes have him apart from Alma and maybe Deirdre.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/02/2020 17:30

These recent episodes (and probably the ones into 1996!) are all new to me!

I was in the throes of being in love with my first serious boyfriend at that time, and Corrie kind of went out of the window!

He was into Dr Who and Ab Fab, and was very dismissive of 'rubbish' like Coronation Street!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/02/2020 17:33

I was a bit surprised really, to be honest! Most gay men love Coronation Street - and Bet really was a gay icon in the 1990s.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/02/2020 17:36

I wonder what Mike's back-story is?

How did a Cockney wide-boy like him end up in a back street in Manchester Hmm ?
