Hands up who didn’t watch Michelle at all during the dances but couldn’t take their eyes off Giovanni. I find myself watching him whenever he’s dancing to the exclusion of those around him.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 10/11/2019 23:12

No, I watch Michelle but I do think she has had three dances - the salsa, the rumba and this one - where the hair/make-up/styling or some of the choreo - clothes-sniffing, reeling in Gio or whatever that was, were decidely iffy.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 10/11/2019 23:47

I watch Michelle. There's no doubt she's a good dancer, but there's just something about her I can't warm to. She'll continue to do well though and I could see her in the final three.

isittooearlyforgin · 11/11/2019 00:08

@NormaBean my friend went and they were very early because they over book in case they get no shows. Is that right @DoneAdulting

NormaBean · 11/11/2019 00:15

I see, thank you isittooearlyforgin.

We sign up for the tickets every year but are yet to be lucky enough to get any. Good to know i’d need to factor in getting there at midnight if I ever do get any.

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/11/2019 06:32

she says one thing about her technique being pushed further than others about half way through, and then says the thing about us seeing her doing a level of posture that hasn't been seen on Strictly before at about the 5:50 mark:

@Summer15coming
I didn't take that as arrogance, as she did say "he pushes me to", I think she was just trying to say how much Gio is pushing her to do better each week. I think it was just worded a bit clumsily.

Theromanempire · 11/11/2019 06:43

elguardian yes, me too. Joe Varney is mesmerising and very hot even when dressed as a 50's dowdy husband Grin

Piggywaspushed · 11/11/2019 07:00

I love JV but actually I think he makes you watch his partner. That particularly happened with Debbie. He is very respectful. So not like Anton.
I think JV is like a (quieter) Brendan in that he brings out his partner's talents. KFG is also good at this, especially with Susan Calman. What other dancer would have transformed Susan like that?

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/11/2019 07:12

@NormaBean

This is the jacket -

www.meandem.com/luxe-cropped-jacket-black

It was all from Me + Em I believe but must have been bought separately, I presume.

Theromanempire · 11/11/2019 07:17

piggy well yes, Anton would have made Susan into a comedy contestant whereas Kevin made her fall in love with dancing. Can't think of many of Anton' s partners that have found that joy and love of dancing Hmm

iklboo · 11/11/2019 07:21

@NormaBean - you 'win' a ticket but you're not actually guaranteed to get in. It's sort of like a raffle. First come, first served. You could travel all the way down there and missing the cut to see the recording. That's why people start queuing so early.

Once I found that out I stopped applying for tickets.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/11/2019 07:21

I think Michelle could trip, wallop Tess round the chops, discuss thrush with gay abandon and bare her arse on live Tv

I don't see why she wouldn't - she bared her tits on an episode of Drag Race (US version on Netflix - series 3 I think - an early one anyway).

They pixellated them out.

Thank you for the new thread Grouchy and for the cute bird pics, people.

I couldn't watch last night but will watch later. I did know the result, because I cheated when I knew I wouldn't be able to watch it "live" Hmm.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/11/2019 07:25

I thought they looked exactly like giant fruit polos (can you even buy them anymore??)

Now I want some and they probably have stopped making them

EvilRingahBitch · 11/11/2019 07:32

JV was prone to egostistical choreography and over dancing in his first series with Georgia - one egregiously flashy set of pirouettes sticks in my mind. However he was lucky in that Georgia was good enough for him to get away with it and ever since he seems to have learned his lesson.

It’s possible that Michelle didn’t get the votes because people thought/knew she was safe - she wouldn’t have gone home unless she’s was in the dance-off with Saffron or possibly Kelvin, and that was mathematically all but impossible given what we know about Mike’s lack of votes. But people with actual support get the votes week in week out regardless of whether they need them and I don’t think any American has ever got votes on Strictly (though I can’t remember any apart from Michelle Williams and Ashley, are there any others?)

SoupDragon · 11/11/2019 08:02

Michelle's dance wasn't a crowd pleaser - ugly dress & styling, odd theme, no big U.K. fan base. I think the same dance done with a wafty dress and no "cock lodger" theming would have seen her straight through.

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/11/2019 08:07

one egregiously flashy set of pirouettes sticks in my mind

@EvilRingahBitch I think that was with Laura,
this routine ?

Horsemad · 11/11/2019 08:07

Thanks for the new thread. Glitterball

I too think people assumed Michelle & JV were safe because of where they were on the leaderboard.

The doughnut things behind the singer reminded me a bit of eyes. I didn't like them! Grin

Figgygal · 11/11/2019 08:40

I think I prefer watching it in ignorance on the TV and avoideding the re-shoots and seeing the stress and conflict up front

I came to the realisation last night that I'm not enjoying this year that much no one has really clicked with me I don't think the dancing is as good as previous years I think last year turned out to be such a brilliant year as was the year before that this one just hasn't reached those levels for me

MaggieFS · 11/11/2019 08:42

I would have voted for Michelle if I'd have thought there was any chance she was going to be in the dance off but (wrongly) assumed she'd be safe. I know for next week!

Clawdy · 11/11/2019 08:47

I quite like most of the contestants, but for the first time ever, I've no real favourite, and I'm not really rooting for any particular one.

Mrsjayy · 11/11/2019 09:18

Hi not been on thread for ages so just catching up if Giovanni and Michelle went this week i wouldn't have coped Gio is a mesmerising dancer.

Mrsjayy · 11/11/2019 09:20

My favourites have gone already Im clinging on to Gio and Michelle

MaggieFS · 11/11/2019 09:43

I've really enjoyed the behind the scenes insights, thank you!

One thing which always occurs to me during the VTs is how many different training rooms they each seem to use in a week. Is it all driven by where they are? Someone must have a hell of a job booking all of them. Does anyone know where the wood panelled one with the high ceiling is? It's an amazing hall!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/11/2019 09:44

Thank you for the new thread! Glitterball

DarlingNikita · 11/11/2019 09:45

I find Michelle’s competitiveness refreshing. Better than faux-humble stuff.
I agree. And, from the last thread, her AS was a foxtrot-based one, so I think that's why she said she had foxtrot experience.

Mike was cheerful and gracious in defeat and I liked him very much for it. I'll miss Katya too. But it was definitely his time to go.
