The latest Sarah Lancashire drama starts tonight, from the writer of Kirri and National Treasure. Anyone else planning to watch?

Not sure whether to record and watch tonight’s yet

AnAngryElf · 07/11/2019 21:58

I don't know why I'm still watching this. It's so bad. I love Sarah Lancashire but my god, it's shit. I don't like any of the characters. I do want to find out how it ends though.

unique1986 · 07/11/2019 22:01

Well that scene was very very strange.
The Asian guys strangely attractive though.

Piggywaspushed · 08/11/2019 07:00

Last night's episode was just uncomfortable viewing. And not in a good way.

What do you mean strangely attractive? He is attractive full stop.

I think the Grenfell link is that the building was poorly constructed (on the cheap) and no one should have been storing gas canisters there - just as the construction of Grenfell had been altered which meant the fire spread from flat to flat and the flammable cladding acted as an accelerant. The kids shouldn’t have broken in obviously and the gas canister wouldn’t have ignited if they hadn’t been smoking, but their actions essentially highlighted the weakness of the construction. The company should be forced to face up to this - they won’t be, as Adrian Scarborough pointed out. Just as the Grenfell report seems to be diverting blame on fire fighters who wrongly assumed Grenfell complied with building regulations. For what it’s worth I am also very disappointed with The Accident and reassured to come on here and find I am far from alone. I usually love Sarah Lancashire, but she is terrible in this. I can’t understand why it’s getting such good reviews - I can only assume the people reviewing have not actually seen it.

I fell asleep half way through. I know nothing about stoma bags but also thought - surely this would open it up to infection???

Can anyone give me an overall account of what happened? I kind of want to know but can't sit through it at the same time....

Therebythedoor · 08/11/2019 22:32

It's terrible all round. A case of too much being shoe-horned into too few episodes, cliched characters, failure to properly research real-life procedure so it lacks credibility, and all topped off with variable sound quality. No sophistication.

I wonder if the cast found their experience akin to that of trying to polish a turd?

HildegardCrowe · 08/11/2019 22:37

It’s awful. Got halfway through episode 2 and gave up. All the characters are irritating and everyone is over-acting.

MontyBowJangles · 08/11/2019 23:11

It's so so bad. We were going to give up but have watched 3 out of 4 now so may as well watch the last one. Only stuck with it as there are so few episodes.

The shit script and acting are laughable. I've seen local am-drams which have been better.

MrsEricBana · 09/11/2019 10:18

The whole thing is horrible.

Figgygal · 09/11/2019 10:20

I'm also still watching but not sure why

userxx · 09/11/2019 12:11

No idea why I'm watching it either, I've found it uncomfortable from the first episode.

Gingefringe · 09/11/2019 13:59

I gave up on this about 1/2 way through the first episode - the accents were terrible and the plot unconvincing. Reading this thread I'm glad I didn't waste hours watching it.

ooooohbetty · 09/11/2019 14:01

Gave up half way through second episode. It was rubbish.

BestIsWest · 09/11/2019 14:35

I gave up half way through the inquest - the husband was an elected councillor - surely due diligence etc would have been done by council employees not him. So many small procedural errors alongside the other rubbish. It’s just plain weird and rubbish.

CoolCarrie · 09/11/2019 14:54

Can who ever sticks it out until the end please let us know how it ends tia

JaimeBronde · 09/11/2019 17:19

I'm really enjoying this (apart from the mumbling)
I agree that the storyline is a bit rushed & therefore the characters backstories/schemas/justifications aren't fully explained, so you're left to fill in more blanks than normal.

So talking of filling in Smile I'll let you know what happens.

mustangsly · 09/11/2019 18:35

I actually thought it got quite good towards the end of this weeks' episode

LillianGish · 10/11/2019 08:19

Thanks to whoever recommended Guilt. Loving it - superior in every way.

ageingdisgracefully · 10/11/2019 10:37

Can anyone tell me where it's filmed please?

ageingdisgracefully · 10/11/2019 10:40

Ignore that! Think I've just found out...

Maerdy is in the background in one of the earlier scenes, and I think it WAS Hannah Street, Porth, shown early on, too. Smile

Acciocats · 10/11/2019 14:23

I gave up after episode 2. Just dreadful. Any comparison with grenfell is just awful.... ok the broad concept of a building being constructed dangerously is a very general parallel but if the writers were intentionally trying to reflect that then they should have done a far better job. That’s a serious issue and worthy of so much more than this.

bohemia14 · 11/11/2019 11:08

I've just watched the third episode. It was truly abysmal. I didn't think it could get any worse but it did. Not a single likeable character and some terrible acting. I shall probably watch the last episode just to stick with it and see what happens. It can't get any worse, can it?

MrsGrindah · 11/11/2019 17:29

I’m so annoyed with myself for continuing to watch it but I need something to distract me from ironing.Watch the hell was the hand job scene all about?! Totally unnecessary
