So, after all those years of watching wannabes trying to become somebodies, Simon has decided the way to go is to basically take a bunch of celebs and see if they can sing.

I've a feeling we've seen something like this before.

Tonight's auditions are in Malibu, and the first bunch of celebs are

Journalist, Martin Bashir, Quiz show champion, Jenny Ryan (is she off the Chase? )and Model and Actress, Hayley Hasselhoff.

Glee Actor, Kevin McHale, The Islanders, made up of former Love Island contestants Samira Mighty, Zara McDermott, Wes Nelson and Eyal Booker; and Social Media Stars and CBBC Presenters Max and Harvey.

Another group act 'Try Star' - rugby stars Ben Foden, Thom Evans and Levi Davis - and Professional dancer, Brendan Cole and actor, Jeremy Edwards who form Cole and Edwards.

I am not sure I know who most of these people are. But I don't watch Love Island. Maybe it is stretching the 'Celebrity' label a bit Grin

I'll still get sucked in to watching , probably.

I've got vodka. If all else fails Grin.

I find the fact they describe Kevin McHale as an actor- when the role was basically about being a singer, a bit misleading.

But who knows, he might end up being pants Grin.

And most importantly Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger are back!!

Raahh · 12/10/2019 16:33

Jane I very glad to see batty old Nicole back, and lovely Louis.

Last year's panel was a big mistake. No wonder they made their excuses about not being involved this year.

I'll give it a lash. Hope they do the champion of champions one too.

Raahh · 12/10/2019 17:06

Yes, they are supposed to be doing and All Stars edition, but I read an article, and I think they might struggle to get some acts to come back- they might feel they have moved on.

Other past winners have long since been forgotten- I mean- Leon Jackson, anyone? Grin

They did something like this before didn't they? Remember Rebecca Loos being on it around the time of the affair rumours and all being awkward.

Have heard about the Allstar version. Be good if they can do it. Least you know they can sing. Think the show itself has died a death really.

Celebrity version... Easy watching at least even if don't know who many of them are. Know the girl from Love Actually. She was good in that.

PotterHead1985 · 12/10/2019 18:40

@Raahh most of the winners careers haven't faired very well over time tho so who knows.

magentastardust · 12/10/2019 19:13

meghan mckenna is on this isn't she? She has already had a record contract a couple of years ago?

Raahh · 12/10/2019 19:22

Potter true, some of the most successful acts didn't win- One Direction,(3rd place) being the perfect example.

OP posts:
PotterHead1985 · 12/10/2019 19:41

@Raahh yup. And JLS. The three most successful winners I can think of are Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Little Mix.

Raahh · 12/10/2019 19:48

I think James Arthur has done ok, after a shaky start, Olly Murs had a good career, and Shane Ward has gone on to be successful- though not in singing. Joe McElderry basically did what we all said he would do at the time, and became a musical theatre act.

Less said about Steve Brookstein the betterGrin.

Matt Cardle was well and truly overshadowed by the Wandies- and I always thought Rebecca Ferguson was more unusual. I think she still performs.
Louise Johnson has been a slow burner, and a bit of a 'featured artist' type act. Ben Who? Now lived up to his name, really.

Then there are acts like Ella Henderson, who did ok, and Stacey Solomon has not done badly - but stayed away from the singing Grin.

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/10/2019 19:49

Of course, Olly didn't win.

True. If you look at the overall picture like that you can certainly see that they got a lot out of their wins. Most likely not in the ways a lot of them expected to do when they entered. I think overall the expectation was win the show and be a major star like Beyoncé etc. Well at least that was the dream. But a fair few have done well enough out of it. Even Rylan and Jedward ffs!

Agree with a previous poster though that the show as it was has pretty much run its course. And clearly Simon agrees. But he is always one to flog a dead horse and just jazz it up as something else so we shall see how tonight goes!

Raahh · 12/10/2019 19:57

Exactly- look at Rylan! I hated Rylan when he was on it. I actually quite like him now, he has found his niche- and X Factor was the stepping stone to that.

The old format had gone as far as it could go for now- we know it was all set up and really was predictable. it needed a shake up.

I still love the drama. Will this end up being more like 'Stars in their eyes' without costumes though ? Grin

I'm going to watch it but my gut feeling is it's going to be awful 😂
Are they doing auditions then? I wasnt sure if it would just be like live shows, no idea what to expect I suppose!

Raahh · 12/10/2019 20:00

I did think they would just launch into live shows (we've not exactly got long until Christmas- can't imagine it going on past that). I think the auditions will be briefGrin. Then the 'main' shows will be in London.

Hellooo Raahh! Long time no 'see'.

I haven't been on MN much latelyl, but checked back in especially to find your X Factor thread, and you didn't disappoint Grin

NoisyBrain · 12/10/2019 20:07

My spelling has clearly gone to shit too Smile

Raahh · 12/10/2019 20:17

Evening NoisyGrin

I very nearly forgot. It is soooo late this year!

OP posts:
NoisyBrain · 12/10/2019 20:24

Yes, the Christmas JL ad will be upon us before we know it Wink

It will be a sign that X Factor has had its day if they don't pick the show for the ad's first airing.

nancy75 · 12/10/2019 20:32

Hello fellow evil onesGrin
This new fangled X factor looks thoroughly shite so I’m just here for the bitching. On a brighter note after a year of suffering serious withdrawal I have found a shop that sells walnut whips, so all is right with the world

JaneJeffer · 12/10/2019 20:35

Aargh I've just got back in and the men of the house are watching a match that's gone into extra time so I'll miss the beginning. Grr

TheFairyCaravan · 12/10/2019 20:35

Evening everyone!

Raahh · 12/10/2019 20:36
Hmm

not known for singing.

But the bloke from Glee did nothing but sing!

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/10/2019 20:37

Ahh yes, the JL ad. Although they haven't got any money, so maybe they will just do a mash up of previous adverts this year. To save money for next year's bonus Grin.

And Rikki Lake sang in Hairspray!
