This is painful. Berrettini had match point and double faulted Shock

Looks like a tiebreak.

Oh no he has mp again

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 23:08

Svitolina looks like she is going through the mill watching this.

And she has her semi final to play!

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 23:11

This is mad.

Berrettini absolutely wears his heart on his sleeve. He's had 3 match points, his face is just so expressive, you can see exactly what he's going through.

Although Monfils is the same tbh!

Gael managed to hold so final set tiebreak. This is going to be interesting!!!

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 23:16

Omg. Monfils second DF in the tiebreak!!

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 23:17

This is just too much drama.

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 23:23

Well I was moaning about not seeing any exciting matches and that totally made up for it. Brilliant.

Aww now little Berrettini is crying and applauding Monfils off court, bless him. Poor Gael though, that was nuts.

Raahh · 05/09/2019 07:03

It looked really good, private But I got to 10pm and really had to go to bed. Don't k ow why I bothered, had one of the worst nights in ages, which was annoying since no one was here to keep me awake!

Think I was stressing about ds going to college today, and the fact we all have to be up really early again.

But in good news, a win for Rafa. From the length of the match, not entirely straightforward, but it's a win!

Fizzywinegum · 05/09/2019 07:59

Sorry you had a rubbish night Raahh - hope your DS is Ok at college. I usually have a rubbish sleep if I know I’ve got to get up early.

The Berrettini match sounded exciting Private - I’ve not seen much of the tennis this year - it’s on so late.

Well done Rafa although it sounded like a tough match - I woke up at 3 ish and they’d not even started. A lot of the crowd started to leave in the third set as it was midnight in NY - apparently Shakira was there watching Rafa Shock

magimedi · 05/09/2019 08:10

All the best for your DS, Raahh.

Raahh · 05/09/2019 08:19

Thanks everyone, I always worry about people not waking up on time- so end up waking up a dozen times to make sure no one over sleeps. It's a bad habit!

Hopefully I'll be more relaxed tonight!

PrivateSpidey · 05/09/2019 09:49

Raahh I hope your DS gets on ok. How annoying about the disturbed night's sleep - I know what you mean about having to get up/out on time, it can play on your mind can't it, especially when it's been such a long holiday and then you suddenly have to get organised.

I haven't seen any of Rafa's match yet, but it looks like it was a bit of a test for him from the scoreline.

kazzaD66 · 05/09/2019 11:42

Have you seen the story on the BBC website about Murray, Djok, Tsistipas and others saying weird things in their recent interviews, as part of a secret Jimmy Fallon prank?
Made me chuckle.

I wish I'd seen them Grin

Raahh · 05/09/2019 11:53

Some of those were hard to fit in!

Grin
Raahh · 05/09/2019 11:54

Didn't they do something similar during a football tournament with song lyrics? This might be something I have made up. Grin

Fizzywinegum · 05/09/2019 14:39

I think it was Wham songs Raahh - or maybe Smiths songs? (I think I’ve definitely made that last bit up!)Grin

I’m back in the bar on holiday where I watched the start of the epic Anderson/Isner match last year. We go home tomorrow - didn’t make it to the Rafa museum or the tournament Sad

PrivateSpidey · 05/09/2019 17:40

half as long but twice as cute

Grin haha!! Only Andy could say that with a straight face, surely?!

Ah Fizzy - you'll have to go back to Mallorca then, so you can go to the tournament and museum! It's the only way. Hope you've had a nice time.

Women's semis today but they're both night matches so I won't be watching. I wonder how Svitolina will get on. And I'm quite interested to see Andreescu, I don't think I've ever seen her play tbh - although I know she won Indian Wells.

Am excited for Dimitrov v Medvedev though. Can't really believe one of them will be in the final! Fed - Nadal would have been a great final no doubt, but it'll be great there'll be a new slam finalist - when did that last happen on the men's side? Anderson (US Open)?? Or am I missing something?

Apparently Grigor was interviewed about Peter McNamara on Prime yesterday - am off to look for it now in the absence of any tennis Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 05/09/2019 18:13

Thanks private yes we’ll have to come back Grin

I think the first men’s semis start at 9pm UK time so will hopefully get to see some tennis - both matches sound good. I agree it will be good to see at least one new face in the final.

I like the idea of a kitten nap Grin

PrivateSpidey · 06/09/2019 08:53

Aww - Osaka and Schwartzman have been given the US Open sportsmanship awards.

They're a bit previous aren't they, since the tournament hasn't even finished yet, but still. Not sure if Diego did something specific or if it's just for generally being a nice guy?!

Raahh · 06/09/2019 09:16

It does seem a bit early, although I can't imagine Serena doing anything to warrant it over the weekend. Hmm. If I hear '24' not in the the context of the Kiefer Sutherland show one more time, will scream...

Rafa was nice to that little kid being squashed, but maybe it's for things they've done on the court.

PrivateSpidey · 06/09/2019 10:17

Yes Rafa wins the nice guy award for that alone. Bless him.

I do want Serena to break the so-called record, even though it shouldn't really be the record anyway, - if she does, at least then
we might stop hearing about it.

I hate stuff like that anyway Hmm, why do they always go on and on about it? I just want to see a good tennis match.

PrivateSpidey · 06/09/2019 10:18

I mean, I suppose I'll watch the women's final but am much more excited for the Grigor revival story than any of that!!

Raahh · 06/09/2019 10:38

She needs to redeem herself for last year . Her behaviour was appalling. I've a feeling it ( though I hope I'm wrong ) it might be a one sided match. I hope she behaves better in victory than she did in defeat. And then she can disappear.

I also don't want to hear about her being a mother winning a grand slam. She won't be the first to do that. Not even at the US open.

PrivateSpidey · 06/09/2019 10:57

Raahh I know. And it's a similar set up to last year isn't it, with Serena going for the record vs a young newcomer. The crowd could be a big factor again?

Andreescu has been on a great run though, be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Raahh · 06/09/2019 11:18

Similar age too, it would be interesting if she beat Serena.
I wish tonight's matches were on earlier.

PrivateSpidey · 06/09/2019 11:58

So do I, I really want to see both of them. But I probably won't Sad

I can't believe we haven't even filled up one thread this whole tournament! Do you think it's the time difference issue - the good matches have been later or something? Also I was away last year as school went back later so I probably stayed up later to watch, plus the incentive of Delpo of course Grin I don't know, it doesn't feel as good this year to me??

Delpo's revealed over on IG that he "partied" with Justin Timberlake the night of his US Open title win Grin that is just so 2009 isn't it?
