Aww poor Stan Bear

PrivateSpidey · 03/09/2019 22:17

I know Jane Sad

He'll bounce back though.

Raahh · 04/09/2019 05:46

Yay! Grigor!

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 06:03

Omg

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 06:09

What happened??! I was just reading that Roger said he had a back injury or something? But even so, for Grigor to beat him, when he's never beaten him before, for a spot in a GS semi final, to turn around a stinker of a season - that takes some guts doesn't it?!

It's amazing from Grigor. He doesn't even have to play Stan next. It's all falling into place. Grigor's going to win the US Open!!

Didn't you actually predict that Raahh earlier in the thread?!

This is great. I love tennis!!

Fizzywinegum · 04/09/2019 06:30

Wow well done Grigor - what a turn up for the books! (I’m never going to make another prediction again!) Grin

Also well done to Medvedev - Mac had him retiring in the first set (so did I really!). Hope he’ll be ok for the semis.

I read a comment from some retired tennis player or other that if Nadal wins this thing, he'll have to cancel his wedding in order to capitalise on the victory in the race to be No 1 at the end of the year. Of course, Djokovic loses a shedload of ranking points by going out so early.

Am trying to imagine how that conversation might go with Xisca 🤔

magimedi · 04/09/2019 07:13

Did not expect to wake up to a Grigor win!

Don't believe Rafa would cancel his wedding - he's too nice to do that.

Raahh · 04/09/2019 07:24

Rafa isn't motivated by the number spot at this point anyway, I think ending he season in one piece was always the goal.

Plus, he has nothing to defend from last year. So really, all it takes is for Djok's shoulder to bother him a bit,Wink and Rafa pick up a few points here and there.

But you never know- this could be Grigor' s year!Grin

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 07:31

I'm here for the Grigor takeover. Sorry Rafa!

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 07:33

Although... If they actually played each other Shock then I would be very torn between them.

Got to be better than Djok v Fed again though!! So much better in fact!

Raahh · 04/09/2019 07:35

Oh, I definitely want Rafa to win.Grin

But if it's going to be anyone else, Grigor would be a great story.

kazzaD66 · 04/09/2019 07:49

Wow! Was not expecting to wake up to that result.
Go Grigor Grin
I hope he beats Medvedev.

Raahh · 04/09/2019 07:55

It's made up up for having to get up early to take dd2 to school . I hate the school run. Mind you, I was up about 3 times in the night, since I kept getting woken up, and dh left at 5 for a work trip. At least I will get a couple of decent nights sleep nowGrin.

JaneJeffer · 04/09/2019 08:15

Well done Grigor! So happy for him.

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 16:05

The US Open social media account is pondering whether Rafa or the "fresh face" of Diego will win tonight.

How long has Diego been around again?!

I mean, he'd be a fresh face in the USO semi finals, I suppose, so...

Raahh · 04/09/2019 16:17

He's been around a while now, Diego. He's 27! Grin

He's played well against Rafa in the past- took a set from him at RG last year. He played very well the other day- although it's fair to say Sascha was pretty poor.

Maybe they mean 'fresh faced' as in a new face, rather than young- although he does look pretty young.

It's a shame its on when I will (hopefully) be asleep!

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 18:01

Same here - will probably miss it. I feel like I haven't seen any good matches this year really. They were saying on the Tennis Podcast that it's been such a great tournament etc, but I don't think I've seen a great match yet - or have I?! Hmm. Rafa-Cilic was good, but I already knew the result so it wasn't exciting Sad

I am definitely going to try and watch Grigor v Medvedev though, so hopefully that will come up trumps. It better!

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 20:00

Watching Monfils v Berrettini. It's flat as a pancake at the mo.

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 20:10

Berrettini is starting to get back into it a bit now though...

Adelie0404 · 04/09/2019 21:38

He is! He looks like a bumblebee though. He might just win this. Monfils is suffering a bit.

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 22:05

Is your Amazon ok Adelie? Mine went off for ages Hmm seems ok now though...

Adelie0404 · 04/09/2019 22:08

Yes it’s been fine actuallySmile I must be lucky. Though DH has kicked me off currently as needs computer ( he is about to go away for a month - work)

Morgan · 04/09/2019 22:13

My Amazon totally not working tonight - most annoying 😡😡

PrivateSpidey · 04/09/2019 22:26

Mine's back now, touch wood.

Berrettini has this in the bag here if he keeps his nerve, but it's all a bit tense...
