I used to watch Red Rock but I lost track after the first series. I saw Sean Mahon IRL. He was staying in a hotel where we had a family gathering.

The80sweregreat · 15/07/2019 13:14

I watched the hi lights just now to see that sprinkler go off again! It was funny.
The umpire falling over was good too. I love all the things that go wrong
( Tim needs to look at that hose today. )

Was a good tournament but sad for you Rafa fans that he didn't win this year ! The top three are very dominant.
Pleased for Simone and hope she continues to do well . Maybe Serena will retire now?
I don't watch any other tennis tournaments but I might give the others a go one day.

Raahh · 15/07/2019 13:15

Private Red Rock is great, it's based around a Garda station in Dublin, and the community (including a couple of 'warring' families- one that has pots of money, the others are gangster types and loan sharks. In true Shakespearean tradition- daughter of gangsters got together and had a child with one of the posh lot. Grin in series 2. Lots of murders). Each series is really long- and will probably last til September Grin.

I got quite addicted. Grin.
It's now on series 3- and over the last few years, Doctors (which used to just go off around Wimbledon) has taken to going off for nearly 3 months Sad. It's ok, when there's something on to watch insteadGrin.

I really want Rafa to keep winning (and the other 2 to stop Wink) - he just has to stop getting injured on hard courts . I would love him to win the tour finals. But indoor hardcourts are a nemesis.

quick stat- he's won 80/82 of his titles- out doors. One of his indoor wins as on an indoor clay court though. Grin

I have given up trying to function in any meaningful way today. Classic Emmerdale here I come.

Raahh · 15/07/2019 13:48

it really was a big weekend for sport. Louis Hamilton winning as well (I find him truly strange, but well done to himGrin).

I've decided I might become a netball fan , to fill the tennis gap. I was crap at sport at school -and I was always centre in Netball. it can be quite fun to watch, played properly. Far too short to be allowed to be anything else. I had to use the fake mini hockey sticks because the proper ones were too long for me to use.

*Lewis, obviously !

I always get Louis and Lewis mixed up , as there is a Lewis and a couple of Louis's in dds school. One of the Louis's is Louie- the other Lou-iss.

I’ve resorted to hacking things back in the garden. I go on holiday in a couple of weeks, then it’s only another couple of weeks before the US Open starts.

Hamilton does come across a bit odd, Raahh. I can’t get onboard with F1. It just looks like driving around in circles to me 🤷‍♀️.

JaneJeffer · 15/07/2019 14:01

I hate F1. It always reminds me of hungover Sundays of the past.

Raahh · 15/07/2019 14:12

I have never under stood the appeal. It always seems like lots of little cars , buzzing around, with someone shouting over the top.

But I appreciate that to a lot of people, tennis is 2 grown adults hitting a little balm over a bet.

Most sport sounds daft when you try to describe it.

When you think about it , Lewis Hamilton is one of England's greatest racing drivers in recent times but he seems overlooked compare to other Brits that have achieved a lot less than he has in their sporting careers.
He doesn't seem universally loved : the press don't seem to idolise him the way someone like David Beckham was ( for example) most people are a bit 'meh' about him as a person. I did a straw poll at work and most didn't have much of an opinion of him.

Damon Hill and James Hunt , Stirling Moss etc always seemed to be in the papers when I was a young kid and other kids looked up to them, but with Lewis he isn't seen as an idol like they were. Maybe F 1 not being on bbc hasn't helped or kids today just don't watch it or it's seen as an elitist / rich persons sport. I always found it boring but the racers made it exciting for the ones that did watch. He seems to go through the motions a bit I think.
It's a shame as he has won so many races!

Raahh · 15/07/2019 15:58

80s you are right, really. I don't know whether it's his lifestyle- but going back, drivers always seemed to be known for a bit of a playboy lifestyle. Or maybe he's not playboy enough? There is just something about him, I can't put my finger on why I find him odd- but his achievements speak for them selves.

Beckham. Meh. Never saw the appeal, even when I was selling him batteries. Grin.

Car park chat, do you reckon?!

Tim would be a great AELTC chairman I think.

magimedi · 15/07/2019 16:32

Some of the 'meh' about Lewis is down to the fact that Mercedes just keep on & on & on winning & about the only variable left in F1 now is tyres & tyre choice (which is pretty restricted anyhow). In the last 5/7 years we've virtually given up watching it. Might record it, watch the start & fast forward to the finish.

I have been productive this afternoon (after grumping round all morning) & have cleaned the car, the fridge & tidied out the freezer. (memo to self: freezers are not alternative dustbins!).

Feel better now & looking forward to a swim tomorrow.

Raahh · 15/07/2019 16:42

Private it' only a matter of time. Grin

He's probably telling them exactly how much the court 1 roof cost..,Grin

'And we managed to off set the cost, from all the fines handed out to Kyrgios , Tomic and Fognini'

Grin

I think you are probably right magi- it does get boring when it's the same people winning.A bit like tennis in a way Grin

When he first came on the scene, I didn't mind Hamilton. Then he started to believe his own hype, dumped his father from his management and became a real tosser.

Suffice to say, I don't like him.
But then, I doubt he'd like me either, so.....

kazzaD66 · 15/07/2019 16:54

DH has an aunt and cousins in NZ.

He was going to email them to mention the cricket but thought better of it, as he remembered the rugby world cup is in a few months, and we all know who the better team in that sport are Grin

magimedi · 15/07/2019 16:54

I would love to see some races with them all in identical cars, fuel & tyres. Wonder how well LH would do then!

Which is one of the (many) reasons I like tennis so much. Apart from rackets, it's all down to the individual's skill.

Raahh · 15/07/2019 16:55

Best keep schtum for a bit kazza Grin

Just watched last night's TaW. Fast forwarded through most of it.

As has already been noted, wtf was Clare wearing Shock

Boris is a smooth mover, blowing a kiss goodbye at the end.
That's what has got him into so much trouble over the years.
When will he learn Grin
