Changed the name of this thread as we were very upset with the ending of series 3 out in Bangladesh! Waiting out for news of series 4. In the meantime, we are reviewing the seven series of Soldier Soldier.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are always good for me - so it's up to you eejit.

Next Tuesday is best for me.

Magi84 · 22/09/2019 07:30

Hello ILove, Rhu and eejit sorry not to have at least given a little comment on your last couple of watchalongs, which I hasten to say I thoroughly enjoyed.

However I have been caught up it technical problems as Mumsnet decided to update the App and this proved to be too much for my IPad which only has iOS of an inferior number to that required. Blimey I sound as if I know what I'M talking about there but believe me I don't. To cut a long story short I lost the App 😡 So it has taken me till now to fiddle about and go into Mumsnet the long way round. Not to be recommended. I a. Going to borrow my grandson's IPad every time I want to follow your watchalongs as he has sufficient iOS apparently!

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2019 12:48

Hi Magi. Nice to hear from you.

I sympathise with the techy problems - I really hate all that side of stuff. I was only telling DH this morning how much I worry about all these apps and clouds and how things seem to happen that I don't really understand. My kids are just so laid back about it all and say don't worry it's fine, but I reckon it's just naivety on their part. Growing up with it all, means they think it's normal. I must be naturally suspicious - it's an age thing Grin

Will be back for the next thrilling instalment of Soldier, Soldier on Tuesday.

Magi84 · 22/09/2019 13:48

Hi Rhu thx. I agree re the younger family members taking all this stuff in their stride. Never known any different. I am in fact now using the MN app on my new mobile. Only bought that a couple of weeks ago and it was the youngest member of the family (10 yr old) who told me that it must be up to date enough for this app. Who knew eh!

eejittwo · 22/09/2019 20:44

BTW - talking of Elvis, everything seems to have gone quiet about LP these days, unless I've missed some gossip?

Magi84 · 22/09/2019 20:56

Yes eejit must admit not seen anything about LP on Instagram or other publicity. The series he's into "Snatch" appears to be a long term arrangement since he mentioned being tied into it for five years and that was only last year, so a long way to go. Steady work I suppose.

Ilovelblue · 23/09/2019 20:58

Hi all. Having a rather traumatic time as we were due to start a long haul holiday in a few days time but guess what, we had booked with Thomas Cook! We are two of the million people with bookings which can't be honoured. It's slightly complicated in that the flights are still valid (as it wasn't Thomas Cook airlines we were flying with) so that we are considering just booking a different hotel and going anyway but there's a lot to think about, including our refund via ATOL and the CAA.

Sorry to hear that ilove, what a pain for you. I got caught a couple of months ago with a booking I made on Superbreak which was cancelled when they went bust. My credit card company paid up eventually, but it was a bit of a faff to get it sorted out and rebooked. Hope you manage to get something arranged.

Ilovelblue · 23/09/2019 22:13

Ooooh Rhu, I got caught with Superbreak too! We were due to have a weekend in the Cotswolds after having been staying near Salisbury for several nights. I had used my Tesco credit card and I have to say, they were really prompt. The hotel were really good too as they honoured the price we had paid with Superbreak. However, one I had booked for the following month near the RHS at Wisley proved
much more mercenary. They had immediately cancelled the booking and then tried to charge me more than twice the price if I wanted the room! Clearly, I told them where they could shove it.

We have plans B and C for this Thomas Cook fiasco but it does depend somewhat on the hotel confirming whether or not they have already been paid and if not, what the room rate will be. We have about 10 days to get it sorted.

I was pretty fed up last night but in the grand scheme of things, it's a holiday - there are 9,000 Thomas Cook staff without a job - which is much much worse.

On a different note, on Radio 2 today, they've been talking about Bruce Springsteen's 70th birthday. I'm not particularly a fan but I had to laugh when they referred to his nickname of "The Boss" as it reminded me of the conversation in series 3 where CJ is talking to Captain Azizi and explaining to Georgie how they met over a "shared love of The Boss. Just after that, Elvis walks in and it is one of my favourite shots of him. Big sigh, RIP Elvis. True what you were saying eejit, we've not had any media info on him of late at all.

eejittwo · 24/09/2019 07:19

Oh, ilove, that's a right pain about your hols. I do hope you get it worked out.
Meanwhile, you can think beautiful thoughts. That favourite shot of yours is part of the best episode - so many bits I like in it and the conversation with CJ that follows is so good. I like the boys' chat - and , in the one in episode 4, when he is trying to console and reassure CJ, he as so gorgeous.

Magi84 · 24/09/2019 08:28

Sorry to hear you're involved in the Thomas Cook debacle Ilove but at least you hadn't actually started the holiday. What a nightmare for people in those long queues at airports to be "repatriated". Hope you get the finances sorted and maybe even the holiday by some other means. As you say also one has to feel for those thousands of employees suddenly out of a job. Life changing!

Ilovelblue · 24/09/2019 11:03

Thanks ladies for your kind thoughts. We think we're sorted (and have a definite plan B in that we accept we may have to pay the hotel direct and claim back via ATOL although we hope that since we have the tickets, this won't be the case). We have spoken directly with the airline who have confirmed our flights both ways. If the flights had been cancelled, we would have given up and gone next year when we'd had our full refund.

OP posts:
eejittwo · 24/09/2019 11:32

Plan B looks good ilove, and I hope all goes well.
I see that some of the staff abroad are still turning up to work, to help the stranded people, even though they don't know if they will be paid, because it's better than staying at home and worrying.

eejittwo · 24/09/2019 20:07
