It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

Having had some time to digest I think I'm unsure of how I feel about it all because it was a happy ending wasn't it? I didn't see it at first because it wasn't traditional and I was to happy ghost got his moment but when you think about Everyone got what they want. Expect Danny of course but there was no way back for her after last week. I was prepared for a lot more heartache than that some more feelings but there aren't any because everyone is where the want to be..... it's odd.

Leontine · 20/05/2019 12:49

Also there was 2 bottles of water on the floor in the dragon pit scene. I mean come on!

Yes, very happy. I can't think of a way it could have been happier. Jon didn't want the Throne, he got what he wanted and was pretty much over it anyway. It could have been so sad for him with a few small changes.

Apparently D&D didn't want to hand us GoT wrapped up in a bow for the finale, as they have treated us as adults and given us heartbreak and tragedy to deal with, so felt a happy ending would have been patronising, but surely even Dany fans know her death was the happiest thing that could have happened to Westeros? What am I missing 🙇🏻‍♀️

CodenameVillanelle · 20/05/2019 12:59

Jon didn't get shafted. He didn't want to rule, he definitely didn't want people knowing he was a Targaryen after that. He wasn't the 'true heir' - that's the point. The Targaryens were tyrants and he wasn't one - not by nature. Westeros didn't want tyrannical empires in charge any more, it would have been really dangerous for him to be proclaimed Targaryen and ruler.
He got to go back to the north where he belonged and lead the free folk, who loved and respected him, back to their lands. It wasn't a punishment- the night's watch was finished. It was a punishment for show only.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 20/05/2019 13:03

Dany started off with good intentions but the sheer amount of power she had went to her head

As the saying goes - absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Why did Brienne stay in KL? Why isn't she Sansa's Queensguard?

She got a better offer - she's on the Small Council helping to rule the 6 kingdoms

NunoGoncalves · 20/05/2019 13:04

Jon's ending was happy aside from the fact that he just found out the woman he had fallen in love with was his aunt, then he had to watch her slip (very quickly) into madness, and then he had to kill her. Good times yay!

bigKiteFlying · 20/05/2019 13:12

I agree.

Though Danny thought she got what she wanted right up actual point of her death she was there she had the throne, a vision and the man she loved last few moments were bitter.

Jon’s ending - I did think right up to Castle Blacks’ gates opening and seeing Tormund there that he was shafted - but in end he leads the wildlings back home setting them free - and he has their respect. It is in the end a good ending for him. The green grass shows winter is ending so it's all looking good for the wildlings.

For anyone needing some light relief after last night Maisie Williams asked for memes on twitter and people didn't disappoint

My favourites Grin

Everyone got exactly what they wanted except insofar as the love of their lives had been brutally slain (Greyworm, Brienne, Jon). Yay for Sam and Gilly who achieved a romantic happy ending. Boo for Ser Davos for not sending for Mrs Ser Davos and the little Davoses to join him.

Leontine · 20/05/2019 13:31

This is one of my favourites. Grin

His son died at Blackwater I think (one of the battles anyway). I think his wife was dead before the. He needs a new wife.

AliceRR · 20/05/2019 13:37

I thought it was good and I didn’t expect to think that

They managed to tie ever together quite well

wevraver · 20/05/2019 13:51

@itswinetime that Bran meme 😂😂😂

CodenameVillanelle · 20/05/2019 13:52

All the extended Davoses are dead :(

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 13:58

The maybe no extended Davoses left but here's a nice nods to one of the most underrated (I think) characters.

And yes the bran meme may have made him being crowned king totally worth it for me 😂😂😂

I loved Tyrians last line about the jackass...a joke he has never been able to finish in previous episodes.

agirlhasnonameX · 20/05/2019 14:13
  • Tyrion walks into a brothel with a honeycomb and a jackass. Madame: What can we do for you? Tyrion: I need a woman to lay with, for mine has left me. Madame: Whatever for? And what's with the honeycomb and the mule? Tyrion: My woman found a genie in a bottle, and he granted her three wishes. The first was for a house fit for a queen, so he gave her this damn honeycomb. The second wish was that she have the nicest ass in all the land, so he gave her this damn donkey... Madame: And what about the third wish? Tyrion: Well... she asked the genie to make my cock hang down past my knee. Madame: Well that one's not so bad eh? Tyrion: Not so bad!? I used to be six foot three!*

I just thought it was disappointing that a series that brought us the RW, , beheading Ned Stark, Cersi using the wild fire and countless more 'mouth drop' moments went out with such a disjointed wimper! For me it's not so much the end result it's how they got to it this episode which was almost boring.

I would have liked to see some sort of Dani and Jon battle in fire. Or Arya killing Dani with Jon's face. Or Dani walking around KL and seeing the bodies and killing herself once she realised she had become the very thing she was trying to defeat. Just SOMETHING! there wasn't really anything, not even a bit of good old conspiring.

I did wonder how Ser Jorah would have reacted to Dani's madness (I know his death was one of the things that tipped her over the edge, but still).

BurntSausage · 20/05/2019 14:17

God the memes are excellent, too many good ones but I like these

IHeartArya · 20/05/2019 14:21

Thinking again without watching - how did greyworm become so powerful without me noticing 🤦🏻‍♀️😱

It seems to have come out of nowhere- at least to me. I only noticed last week. I’m clearly thick. No answers necessary Grin

IHeartArya · 20/05/2019 14:22

So many endings I wanted & definitely didn’t want Bran. I got Bran.

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 14:24

Just looked on IMDB at the cast list for the episode and Toby Osmond is listed as ‘Dornish Prince’.

That pretty much sums up everything that’s gone wrong with the series since season 6. They just can’t be bothered to develop ‘real’ characters that viewers are interested in.

That’s how Bronn ended up as Master of Coin. There was literally no one else left!

RuffleCrow · 20/05/2019 14:26

Goodness me, that was possibly the worst ending to anything ever.

Dull, predicatable, poorly scripted, slow, unimaginative.

Season 6 GoT was finely tuned, hold your breath, twist after interesting twist. Season 7 was ok but my god season 8 felt like it was written by a team of bored robots! Such a shame. Sad

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 20/05/2019 14:31

I thought that Bronn ending up in the Small Council was the conclusion of a long-foreshadowed arc - that all the great lords are just the descendants of killers who were in the right place at the right time.

Master of Coin is a bit out of left-field though.

Lweji · 20/05/2019 14:33

Interesting analysis why the last seasons didn't live up to the series.
