It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

@JasperRising I know. I'd forgotten how much nudity and shagging there was!

SweetSummerchild · 23/05/2019 08:38

OneInAMillionYou I get what you’re saying about Jon Snow, but I feel it is a very fitting end for the character. He never wanted to be King, but there would always be someone out there wanting him to press his claim, so by removing himself from the game like Maester Aemon did, he is making things much ‘easier’ for the remaining players.

On top of that, he has to live with the guilt of killing the love of his life. He was gutted at the death of Ygritte - who he didn’t kill and who was a cold-blooded murderer - and Daenerys undoubtedly died by his own hand. The problem is that not enough time was given to the Jon/Dany love story and it always came across as forced/unnatural.

As far as Grey Worm is concerned, he is a bit of a rudderless ship after Dany died. He would want to seek revenge and kill Jon and Tyrion but he’d know that without the dragon the Unsullied would be hopelessly outnumbered by Westerosi forces eventually. I think the episode would have benefitted from a 5 minute dialogue between Grey Worm and Davos where Davos talks Grey Worm down from immediately executing Jon and Tyrion based on the consequences of doing so and instead encouraging a ‘trial’.

The Dothraki are another matter. No one in Westeros (or at least in the show) speaks their language and none of them speaks the common tongue. Her bloodriders (which is actually her entire Khalessar) should be seeking revenge for her death.

D&D just sort of ignored this. I suppose it’s fairly sensible as the ‘aftermath’ could have taken up at least four episodes and viewers moaned that The Return of the King went on for 40 or so minutes after Frodo destroyed the ring!

agirlhasnonameX · 23/05/2019 09:39

That's most likely true of Jon, but why would Greyworm think that killing Tyrion would start a war or cause any trouble for the unsullied?

I think it's really poor that Tyrion was a prisoner, who chose and anointed the King, then the King freed him. I don't understand why Greyworm would think Bran giving him a job he doesn't want is fitting punishment for the man who betrayed her, more than once.

They wouldn't they would nominate a new khal like they did when they fled when kal drogo died. Those that joined her the second time did so when she killed their masters, they would simply appoint new masters. The unsullied were more loyal soldiers but the dothraki were lead by who were the most powerful at that time.

OneInAMillionYou · 23/05/2019 10:58

SweetSummerChild yes of course, you're right. Such a scene between Davos and GreyWorm would have been much better than the sudden leap from the death of Dany to the meeting at the Dragon Pit.

It eventually became clear that many weeks had passed, but as there was no 'bridging' scene it felt like a huge chunk of activity had been missed out.

Also agree with agirlhasnoname re Tyrion. In a matter of moments we went from GreyWorm yelling at him not to speak, to Tyrion leading the assembly to 1) the idea that the next ruler be chosen by them and 2) that ruler should be Bran! Astonishing really to see them all being guided by Tyrion who was in front of them as a prisoner.

itswinetime · 23/05/2019 11:16

I agree some bridging scenes were needed

I think the reason grey worm went along with Tyrion was because he saw Tyrion was doing what Danny wanted breaking the wheel and so it was acceptable to him. Had Tyrion suggested someone else or another way we are meant to believe greyworm would have said no.

He may have felt differently if he realised Tyrion's role in Danny's death but I don't think anyone but Jon knows that

millythepink · 23/05/2019 11:21

When you look beneath the silver hair and violet eyes, Dany has always had very questionable morals. She fell in love with Khal Drogo despite knowing he must have raped dozens of women, but because he was okay with her (and was going to get her the Iron Throne) he was soon her 'moon and stars'. Nice.

She was supposedly in love with Dario Nahaaris (I'm sure it helped that he brought her any army) but the moment she got support to finally head to Westeros, she ditched him without a backward glance.

She had supposedly freed her handmaid (can't remember her name, but the one who had trained in the pillow houses of Lys) and was supposedly very fond of her, but when she was feeling horny she used the girl for her own sexual gratification. Yuck.

TheLastNigel · 23/05/2019 11:21

I'm going to watch again right from the beginning.
And absolutely agree re Greyworm. He was one of my favourite characters because hot, but he really irritated me in the last episode for the first time which seems a shame.
Surely they would have all just told him to shut up-and they certainly wouldn't have let him define Jon's destiny in that way.Jon was the leader of the northern army which was arguably as large and influential as the Unsullied which is all Greyworm had going for him. Plus Jon's role as a much loved leader, a rightful heir to the throne and a Stark for all intents and purposes would trump Greyworm as the leader of the unsullied any day.
That said I can't think of a better end for Jon so it's a means to an end.

agirlhasnonameX · 23/05/2019 11:40

I think the reason grey worm went along with Tyrion was because he saw Tyrion was doing what Danny wanted breaking the wheel
But that was after they had kept him prisoner for however long it takes to grow a good few inches on a beard. Dany was obviously going to kill Tyrion before she died, so I don't understand why they'd have left him to live or needed to consult the Lords of Westeros- Greyworm clearly hates him.

Doreah was supposed to be teaching Dani how to please Khal Drogo, though in the books I think this is more true.

itswinetime · 23/05/2019 12:22

Which Is why agree they needed bridging scene why they did just kill them both and head off in the 2 weeks it took to call a council, that's where the problem is for me not so much in him listening to Tyrion once the council was there. I guess I'm saying my problem is how they got there not the end result if that makes sense?

Lweji · 23/05/2019 12:34

At the very least they should have mentioned something in the scene of the meeting about how Tyrion (and Jon) happened to survive in the aftermath of Dany's death.

agirlhasnonameX · 23/05/2019 12:57

I feel so bad for Meera Reed, now more than ever. She spent years away from home, her brother died for Bran, she dragged him around for months, got him home safely, all so Bran could become the King. If it's not bad enough he dismissed her without so much as a thanks, now she has to live right on the border of the Northern Kingdom and no doubt deal with any hassle that will come with that and no one even gives her heroism or name a mention.

JasperRising · 23/05/2019 13:18

Yeah not happy with how Meera got totally dropped. I mean it played a purpose in showing how Bran had changed at that point but c'mon couldn't she have come to the kingsmoot thing as her dad's representative rather than a random northern lord. I really hope the crannogmen are far enough south that they weren't in the implied 'if they're not at Winterfell they fight for the dead' group of northerners (I've never been quite sure where her home is)

agirlhasnonameX · 23/05/2019 13:28

The Reeds live in the southernmost House in the North, near/on the neck, so they should have survived the WW presuming they stayed there during the fight.

JasperRising · 23/05/2019 13:34

agirlhasnonameX thanks! Hopefully she is still alive then and just happily doing something for herself for once and ignoring the Starks!

BlackCatSleeping · 23/05/2019 13:42

I have a feeling there will be more about Meera and her father in the books. I really hope so anyway!

OrianaBanana · 23/05/2019 14:37

I am guessing if they didn’t participate in the fight against the NK they will be in trouble.

BlackCatSleeping · 23/05/2019 14:42

Is anyone going to watch the documentary about making the final season? I think it’s showing this Sunday. I think it’ll be interesting to watch.

agirlhasnonameX · 23/05/2019 14:44

Is anyone going to watch the documentary about making the final season?
Yes, though I thought it was Monday. But does anyone know if this being on is the reason there wasn't an inside the episode or game revealed on YouTube this week? Is that basically what it is?

SweetSummerchild · 23/05/2019 15:23

agirlhasnonameX yes, it’s a two hour long Inside the Episode.

Snappedandfarted2019 when a Dothraki Khal is murdered his bloodriders should avenge his death and then follow him into the night lands on his funeral pyre. Khal Drogo did not die at the hands of another - he fell from his horse - which is why his bloodriders abandoned him.

Dany made the entire khalessar her bloodriders in season 6. Hence they should now, at least, be seeking vengeance against Jon. I suppose they must have thought it just wasn’t worth it.

Good riddance. The Dothraki are vile and Westeros is well rid of them.

SweetSummerchild · 23/05/2019 15:37

Oh, and I’m going to assume that one of those Wildlings that Jon went off with was a princess called Val with honey coloured hair and that Ghost has a soft spot for. ❤️❤️❤️

DragonglassHeart · 23/05/2019 15:44

I've gone back to S1 E1 for a rewatch and I have a question..

How did that first deserter from the three NW men get back over the wall to end up captured by Ned's men??

SweetSummerchild · 23/05/2019 15:50

DragonglassHeart there are a lot of abandoned fortresses along the wall. I imagine he went through one (in the same way Bran went North).

I don’t remember it ever being explained in the books or show. I may be wrong.

DragonglassHeart · 23/05/2019 15:57

Thank you SweetSummerchild. I did wonder if it was that simple but thought not as surely the Wildlings would exploit that. And later the Army of the Dead too.

I guess the deserter could have had insider knowledge being a NW man. But now I'm wondering why Jon didn't take the same route rather than the climb they did with Tormund and Ygritte etc.

So many unanswered questions.

SweetSummerchild · 23/05/2019 16:11

DragonglassHeart Have you read the books? There is a ‘magic gateway’ under the Nightfort in the books called the Black Gate. Only members of the Nights Watch can open it. Coldhands (who is not Benjen) brings Sam, Gilly and the baby to it for them to pass South through the Wall and tells them that Sam needs to open the way for Bran, Meera, Jojen and Hodor to pass North (I think I’m remembering it right).

Jon never knew about the tunnel, but other Watch members may.
