It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

Bronn's literally the worst person for the job. A self involved cutthroat obsessed with gold.

Sam spent 2 weeks in the citadel and why was he wearing white?

I'm happy Pod got knighted, but he shouldn't be on the Kingsgaurd, which is usually made up of Westeros' best fighters.

After everything that happened with the night king then the massacre in kings landing Pod probably is one of the best fighters left.

I actually loved it. THe nazi esque scenes for me foreshadowed Jon having to kill dany. Loved how Drogon recognised it was the game of thrones that killed Dany.
Loved how Dany had always been about breaking the wheel and it turned out she needed to die for it to truly happen. They will never have another mad queen like her or another Joffrey again.
Brienne writing in the book at the end was perfect. True to her character that is so good and honourable, even though Jamie literally fucked her over this season, she wrote all those lovely things about him, even the very end ‘died protecting his queen’ I loved that bit.
Sansa queen of the north and Arya going west was very lord of the rings.
I don’t see it as punishment for Jon, I think he is at home in the north and it is where he belongs with Ghost.
So glad we saw Ghost again! And he was big again Grin
Loved the title of the book after Sams comment about it at the citadel last season (or even the one before?!)
Overall as well done as it could have been in 6 episodes. Can’t fault the acting, cinematography, directing or music. Yes some scenes felt shoe horned in because the writers have obviously needed to get characters to a certain point (2nd dragon just needed to die!) but I don’t think it deserves all the criticism it is getting. Especially since we are no nearer a book ending than ever.

KittensinaBlender · 20/05/2019 14:44

I thought it was fine. Wrapped it all up in ways that mostly made sense.

The last season was always going to feel a bit meh because endings generally are the least exciting bit.

The only bit I didn’t like was Bronn’s comment about the brothels. It bothered the feminist in me and I was like “oh yeah the seven kingdoms are free but here’s another arsehole with a bag of money enslaving women again - meet the new boss, same as the old boss” but then Thrones has never been a bastion of feminist critique, so perhaps I need to get over it and watch something else.

Lweji · 20/05/2019 14:44

Just thought that a Blackadder ending would have been quite fitting. Grin

Captaindobbin · 20/05/2019 14:45

Also no master of whispers or war as these won’t be needed in their new world

agirlhasnonameX · 20/05/2019 14:51

I'm sure he's progressed into a pretty decent fighter, but one of the best? Surely there are far more seasoned suitors who also survived the Long Night and KL.

Also no master of whispers or war as these won’t be needed in their new world
Certainly not Master of Whisperers when you have Bran for a King.

missbattenburg · 20/05/2019 14:53

Also no master of whispers or war as these won’t be needed in their new world

Yep, and no need for lifeboats on the Titanic as it cannot sink.

There is always a need for gossip and war, regardless of how noble the intentions Sad

TakenForSlanted · 20/05/2019 14:53

They will never have another mad queen like her or another Joffrey again.

Two words: Donald Trump. And that would have been a supposedly fully-fledged liberal democrarcy.

I think I've just understood the truly bitter component of the bitter-sweet ending. Oh, crap, Brans going to succumb to a sudden but entirely natural death and they'll elect Sweetrobin, won't they ... Confused

agirlhasnonameX · 20/05/2019 14:56

Do the 3eyed ravens live for so long because of the connection to the old Gods when they live in the weirwood trees? Or do they just live for so long because they are 3eyed ravens?

TakenForSlanted · 20/05/2019 14:59

Or because they're literally kind of like trees, and trees can live for millenia.

Or maybe that was only the one. I can see certain challenges arising out of the king literally taking roots in the throne room. For starters, it can't be good for the structural integrity of that already crumbling after this season castle. Grin

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 15:00

Surely there are far more seasoned suitors who also survived the Long Night and KL.

Maybe but surely it takes quiet a few fighters to make up the Kingsguard I can see Pod being up there is all.

Also no master of whispers or war as these won’t be needed in their new world

Nope Tyrion says they are looking for candidates for those roles and they should be filled shortly so gossip and war will continue.

Andylion · 20/05/2019 15:03

Bronn, shut the fuck up and let Sam finish a sentence. Hmm

(Just had to get that out. Now to read the thread.)

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 15:04

Or do they just live for so long because they are 3eyed ravens?

Bloodraven must be about 125 when Bran meets him in the cave. He’s not fully human - there are bits of weirwood growing through him. When Bran goes further into the cave he sees the ‘singers’ who have gone before (greenseers - possible CotF) who aren’t quite alive either. They are probably a bit like the Undying of Qarth.

Melissandre was about 300 years old too. I guess there aren’t any ‘rules’ other than those made up by the author/writer.

MsMarvellous · 20/05/2019 15:04

@WinterIsComingKnitFaster

Bronn always knows what's best to make most money. He's just gone international Grin

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 15:06

It bothered the feminist in me

The feminist in me is just bothered by Bronn, full stop. That’s mostly because of the books, but I don’t like show Bronn either.

GRRM considers himself a feminist, but many of the threads he covers in the books are highly problematic if that’s the case - the ‘happy hooker’ being one of them.

HandsOffMyRights · 20/05/2019 15:14

My two favourite moments involved creatures.

Drogon being the only one smart enough to see what drove women and men to do this to their world.

Ghost and John reunion.

Ginger1982 · 20/05/2019 15:18

I know this is wrong and that it's better she was a woman on the small council but I really hoped Jaime had got Brienne pregnant and I wanted Sansa and Tyrion to end up together Grin

Andylion · 20/05/2019 15:32

That little cameo with Edmure was terrific.

I love Tobias Menzies and was so happy to him, even for a brief, ineffectual moment. He is good in every role he plays.

itswinetime · 20/05/2019 15:46

I'm not sure if this is a great bit of foreshadowing or not Wink

Two words: Donald Trump.

Also: Venezuela. It moved from a democracy to what is now in effect a dictatorship.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 20/05/2019 15:52

In a strange sort of way I liked the brothel conversation. They were never going to take Sam up on his crazy suggestion of democracy, but this pseudo-Magna Carta was the first step on the way. And likewise they weren’t going to move to a feminist society overnight - god knows it’s taking long enough here. But how many people on Robert’s small council would have expressed any qualms about the brothels of King’s Landing? And now we’ve got two members of the council going in with “hang on, let’s have a think about this”. We don’t hear how it goes, and we know they’re not going to move to the Swedish model overnight, but it’s a sign that things will, eventually, slowly change for the better, and I think that’s much better than the two standard fantasy endings of “Nothing will ever change, for good or ill” and “Now the new king has been crowned we’ll sweep away the past and bring Utopia before Gilly has her baby!” It’s an Ankh Morpork ending.

maggiso · 20/05/2019 15:58

Jon being sentenced to joining the watch - having ‘no wife and no children’ does mean - as the last Targaryen ( in the show- in the books there is another) that the dragon lord line will die out. Just as almost every other great house has died out. It did however feel very unfair - until his friends and ghost met him at Castle black. Seeing Ghost was the first time he smiled this series I think! He was free to be himself.

Leontine · 20/05/2019 16:11

Thanks for that @lweji

It explains why I don’t like D&D either. They embody a lot of the things I hate in life.

VampireSlayer19 · 20/05/2019 16:18

This made me laugh I am going with he is intelligent
