That last thread filled up quickly! Here's a new one for us.

As a PP said, I can't quite forget how vile Dom was to Malik in the early days, so his rehabilitation has never made me warm to him. It looks as though his troubles aren't over, though. Carol to the rescue?

Why are the Hansens talking to each other in English?! Surely they’d use their native language, particularly Oskar to Sara?!

spiderlight · 13/08/2019 22:12

That's one of my pet Holby hates. Freida and her Ukrainian boyfriend always talked to each other in English as well. So irritating. How cute is the little lad who plays Oskar though? His lines are adorable.

I'll be sad if Hanssen goes though. He's the only consistently good thing about it these days (other than coffee-cup watch).

MyOtherProfile · 13/08/2019 22:20

Because we wouldn't understand them if they spoke their mother tongues Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 14/08/2019 08:39

Viewers would complain if entire scenes had to be with subtitles

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/08/2019 13:09

Am really struggling with CreepyEvan. Isaac could be truly chillingly terrifying when he wanted to be and you could totally understand the power he had in his relationship with Dom. CreepyEvan, however, just seems like a teenage boy who's grown some facial hair in an effort to get some fake ID. He's not convincing as a grown man, never mind as a surgeon and certainly never mind as someone who Chloe couldn't just blow over with one deep breath if she wanted to.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not making light of coercive relationships. But this story line would be far more powerful if they'd cast someone like Kian in the role, who could be outwardly all charm and good humour and good looks. This would make the shift to the private dynamic within the relationship much more frightening and compelling. As it is, CreepyEvan just slithers around looking like he should be in Maths class and could be felled with one swift knee to the bollocks.

SleepingStandingUp · 14/08/2019 13:16

Agree, actor simy doesn't have enough depth

spiderlight · 14/08/2019 13:35

I agree. He might have been OK if we hadn't had Isaac to compare him with.

PantsyMcPantsface · 14/08/2019 14:05

Come on - at peak Gaskill I had to put subtitles on for entire episodes with all the flipping mumbling!

Evan and Chloe on the hospital roof in 3 episodes time anyone?

PretendLife · 14/08/2019 14:09

I would have more interest in the Chloe/Evan thing if we hadn't just had Dom/Isaac round II. If Holby writers are just going to keep re-using story lines the very least they could do is leave a decent gap between them.

SleepingStandingUp · 14/08/2019 15:22

😂😂😂 And we moaned, so I win the point 😉🤣

I guess Guy Henry is speaking his native language :o

MyOtherProfile · 14/08/2019 17:11

Good point!

SoupDragon · 14/08/2019 21:04

I don't have a problem with them speaking English, even if it's not realistic. (Weeps with laughter at the thought of Holby being "realistic")

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/08/2019 22:42

Do you mean that in RL you CAN'T just make a huge life-changing decision midway through your shift at work and subsequently walk out for a six month sabbatical at the end of said shift? Or quit with no notice and no apparent consequences? Or step down from a middle management position with no notice, announcing your replacement mid-shift without consulting senior management (yes, I'm looking at you, Jac)?

And that the odds of your birth mother turning up to work at the same place both you and your adoptive mother work aren't that good after all?

All my illusions are shattered.

SoupDragon · 16/08/2019 10:22

Oh no, all those things are perfectly reasonable and happen all the time in real life... It must be fine as I see it in Casualty... oh, hang on...🤔

PretendLife · 16/08/2019 12:58

Ah, now I was going to ask if anyone on here watches Casualty as well because I gave up on it years ago. I do see some headlines of stories from Casualty on my newsfeed so had noticed they often cover the same story lines as Holby?

So two hospital dramas on the BBC based in the same hospital, using the same storylines. Surely it would make more sense to just combine the two and spread the stories across the different wards and A&E.

QueenofmyPrinces · 18/08/2019 08:57

Little Oskar is so cute!!

So if Hansen is leaving who is taking over his role?

Agree that Evan is very creepy but the element of power just isn’t there. He’s just too smarmy and weedy to carry it off.

MyOtherProfile · 18/08/2019 09:40

I didn't get the impression HH is leaving - what did I miss?

QueenofmyPrinces · 18/08/2019 10:57

Essie and Sacha said, “You’re going with them, aren’t you?” (in relation to Sara and Oskar)

And HH said, “Yes.”

Essie asked how long he’d be gone for, HH said he didn’t know, and Sacha said, “Why do I get the feeling you aren’t being honest with us?”

Then as HH walked off the ward, Sacha said, “this place will fall apart without you,” and HH said, “Don’t worry, the hospital will be in very capable hands.”

(the conversation went generally something like that anyway).

Optimist1 · 18/08/2019 17:20

To be fair, HH did say that he couldn't set off to Sweden immediately because there were procedures to complete before leaving his post - must be the first time anyone's actually worked their notice at Holby!

SoupDragon · 18/08/2019 19:35

I thought that 😂

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 19/08/2019 13:17

Surely Essie will step into Hanssen's role.

spiderlight · 19/08/2019 13:45

Or maybe that cleaner Sascha's mooning after. Or has she vanished?

SoupDragon · 19/08/2019 19:53

The cleaner was sent back to her home country. Some technicality with her visa.

MyOtherProfile · 19/08/2019 23:10

Wasn't the cleaner French? Has Brexit already happened in Holby?
