Just finished it. I haven't processed it enough to say anything coherent quite yet but I'm feeling all emotional. Going to miss it immensely.

I feel sorry for her sometimes then she's a bitch again and I wonder why I ever did!
She is complex.

I think the fact that Pauline comes across so vile, yet we still feel sorry for her at the same time as disliking her, is testament to some brilliant writing and acting.

ShahOfSplosh · 19/05/2019 20:46

I find Jason really annoying "you're so confused you don't even realise you're confused" - nope, she's really not.

CountFosco · 19/05/2019 21:04

That soft Scottish accent.

This made me laugh, he has a very working class Glasgow accent. Nothing soft about it.

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2019 21:06

I think it's a soft accent! I do like a Scottish accent.

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2019 21:11

Pauline does a really good ' resting bitch face'.

Stroller15 · 20/05/2019 01:34

Just finished all 6 episodes tonight. I don't understand why no one tells Jason off for being so annoying? Surely it must drive Cathy absolutely nuts? I can understand it might be due to his seemingly misogynistic dad and so on but he doesn't redeem himself. His last speech is the worst.
Really love Reg, him being so kind to Derek when Pauline was with her ex was really lovely.
Pauline looked amazing this season, loved her outfits. She's not nice but I enjoy her. Kind of want to keep watching to see her break. Her interactions with Reg is also nice to see.
Such a lovely show, I'll be thinking of the characters tonight.

QueenOfIce · 20/05/2019 03:20

I loved Maureen's 'She's fucking him in the bushes' great series. Fingers crossed for a Christmas special

CountFosco · 20/05/2019 05:51

His last speech is the worst.

There is no point Cathy telling him off, he's not listening to her. Kelly will be the one who he'll listen for (and I loved how delighted she was when Cathy and Michael disappeared into the bushes). But Jason being such an arse was what persuaded Cathy to say fuck it, I'm doing what is right for me.

EleanorReally · 20/05/2019 06:20

Pauline's face when Cathy mentioned how after her mum she had learnt how to treat those who are mean due to having sadness in their life, excellent

LoafofSellotape · 20/05/2019 07:24

I can understand it might be due to his seemingly misogynistic dad and so on but he doesn't redeem himself he does towards the end of the last episode.

Medievalist · 20/05/2019 08:00

He seems to redeem himself but then spoils it again at the very end.

EleanorReally · 20/05/2019 08:13

Just rewatching series 1 Smile

The80sweregreat · 20/05/2019 09:36

Jason does try to be friends with Michael a bit, but then he does that speech with his mum in the kitchen and again its all ' dont change, i am here for you' type chat that really makes her mind up to stop worrying so much about his feelings! Jason just doesnt ' get it' the way Kelly obviously does.
maybe she will talk him round a bit!

EleanorReally · 20/05/2019 09:39

That persuaded her I think, he said Be Low Key, and she decided Not to be low key!

The80sweregreat · 20/05/2019 12:53

she took her pinny off and went for it ! good for her. i wasn't expecting it to be honest.

spiderlight · 20/05/2019 13:13

The pinny coming off was quite a significant act, I thought. Good for her!

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 20/05/2019 13:38

She finally realised they have all been taking advantage of her for too long, it was a long time coming.

The80sweregreat · 20/05/2019 13:59

I had a feeling it would be a happy ending, but not like it happened.
it really took me by surprise. I guess i was expecting something more ' low key' ( to quote Jason)

lazymum99 · 20/05/2019 14:43

Fantastic, fantastic series. I think I’ll watch again from the start.
A Xmas special with the baby would be good. They would probably not be dissimilar parents to the couple in The Royale Family (I forget their names). Wanting to leave most of the childcare with Cathy. And hopefully she will refuse coz too busy with Michael.

The80sweregreat · 20/05/2019 14:50

yes, i can just imagine Jason saying ' mumm, can you have baby Kardashian (or whatever they call him or her) while Kelly and I go up the pub on christmas day so Kelly can take the puppy out for a walk'.
Then complaining when the dinner is put back a while..
Pauline holding a baby doesnt really bear thinking about. I can see the faces she would pull while Reg will be muttering ' its ugly ' under his breath! Micheal would be good with babies though.

Theknacktoflying · 20/05/2019 15:55

Pauline’s disgust at Kelly’s pregnancy and Reg’s comments about bring a great grandparent sums them up.

The show was so good at showing people recovering from bad relationships ...

Medievalist · 20/05/2019 16:08

I had a feeling it would be a happy ending, but not like it happened.

I had a nagging feeling that they would get together and Michael would have a fatal heart attack or something and Cathy would be left regretting all that wasted time. Thank goodness I was wrong!

BrightOink · 20/05/2019 16:25

Pauline is going to feign disgust at the baby. And then in secret, when alone with baby KelJa, she will be completely besotted and fantastic with her.

The80sweregreat · 20/05/2019 16:29

Micheal dying would have been awful. At least it was ok in the end.
They were considering Jason's feelings but I suppose you would if you were like Cathy. Plus he was still grieving for his dad too.
Even if he didn't really deserve all this angst.

The80sweregreat · 20/05/2019 16:30

Kel -ja! Love this.
