Just finished it. I haven't processed it enough to say anything coherent quite yet but I'm feeling all emotional. Going to miss it immensely.

My willpower is rubbish! I've watched the lot and I loved it.

The ending was spectacular, I watched it twice and am going to watch the whole series again tomorrow.

Wrong thread sorry

I’ve just watched series 1 ep 1 and all Jason says in the first few mins is ‘I’m fine, I’m just looking out for mum really’

Which is what he does at the end of series 3 just in more of a twatty way...

implantsandaDyson · 17/05/2019 20:44

I loved every single second of it. I recommended it a few days ago to a very close relative whose husband died very suddenly a few years ago. She's the same age as Cathy. We ended up on Wed night watching the last episode at the same time whilst furiously Whats Apping Grin.

She loved the scene in the kitchen where Cathy tries to explain to Jason the guilt she feels. The lines about feeling guilty because she can be happy with Michael but only because the worst thing has already happened to her (I'm paraphrasing very badly) touched my relative so very much.

The whole three series filled her with hope, it's a powerful thing sometimes heartfelt, intelligent writing and acting.

I'm so sad it's finished! What a perfect ending, so many subtle moments and just brilliant acting. I think 3 series was really the perfect amount just to get to know them all, but I will really miss it and definitely have to watch again. Hope I look like Leslie Manville when I'm older she is stunning Smile

Hi is Mum appropriate for a 14dd to watch with me

I think it will be fine. Although DD1 (11) watched 5 mins when Jason talking to his Mum about his Dad and she made me stop it and asked why I wanted to watch something that was so sad. At least once I explained she left me in peace to watch the rest.

Has your 14yo watched Ghosts? Made by the Horrible Histories team but with more talk about shagging but no swearing. Wonderfully silly but also some very touching moments.

Just finished all of S3, my best bit was Cathy telling Pauline to go fuck herselfGrin

The80sweregreat · 18/05/2019 11:07

Cathy certainly changed that week - telling Kelly she would rather stick pins in her eyes than go to her hen night - that was well done as well.
She found the ' inner cathy'!
Nobody did go in that pool did they? lol

PinkHeartLovesCake · 18/05/2019 11:24

This is the best thing I’ve watched in a while. Brilliant acting all round and stuff you can really relate too.

Reg, Some of the things he comes out with are brilliant. Loved the way he took a kettle to the house with him in case they didn’t have one. Also love that he approved of Kathy and Micheal.

Pauline, I know a few like her I have to say. I did love the “What about genocide” comment when the home owner said nothing worse than getting back in a Lexus after a Porsche. I think Pauline is a deeply unhappy and insecure woman, what she wants is people to stand up to her I think not tip toe round her which I think is where Derek goes wrong.

Kelly, comes across a bit dim but I think she gets stuff more than people think and she has a good heart, all round a decent girl. I also liked the way they played the pregnancy storyline, in most tv shows ladies breeze through morning sickness so it was nice to see a more accurate account.

Kathy, definitely let her inner self out a bit. Her telling Pauline to go fuck herself was brilliant!

Micheal that melt me like butter speech 😍

I’m sad it’s finished, but what a way to end. A Christmas special with the baby would be wonderful

The80sweregreat · 18/05/2019 13:57

Ive started watching series one again and that is good, i had forgotten so much about how it all started.

Theknacktoflying · 18/05/2019 14:26

Just fabulously written and so well acted ...

I’m bereft

RobinsEggBlue · 19/05/2019 09:35

Binge watched it last night- the acting is completely superb. Derek and Kelly were my favourites this series, and obviously Michael 🥰. Will miss it so much. Going to rewatch series 1 and 2 now

EleanorReally · 19/05/2019 09:50

just seen this thread for the spoilers
lots of tears from me, and smiles
so lovely
Jason asking Michael to put up shelves.
Kelly being so wise.

EleanorReally · 19/05/2019 09:51

Think Pauline is a bit like the home owner wife, Arrive with a porsche comment Grin
dont put the handbag there!

EleanorReally · 19/05/2019 10:16

oh, mentioned already upthread, she was indeed out paulined Grin

what a mess
derek was great,
they kept opening the dishwasher midcycle
loved the chucking of the banana skin on the window sill Grin

CountFosco · 19/05/2019 18:39

There better be a Christmas Special. We've had all the months of the year and Mon to Sat. We need to see a Sunday!!

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2019 18:43

The male owner of the house was ok though.
As much as I'm a huge fan and could bore on forever about how good it is , why couldn't they have a horrible man in it too? Although Reg has an acerbic tongue , he had a good heart deep down and wasnt snooty and really mean like Pauline and the other girls ( the ones in series one and two)
A 'stuck up 'male character is rare. Is it just women as seen like this?

CountFosco · 19/05/2019 18:49

I think the interaction between Pauline and the owner's wife was interesting. Pauline when she was still married lived in that more monied world and probably had people constantly looking down at her for being lower middle class and not quite cultured enough. And then of course she was replaced by her husband. The owner's wife probably hates having to rent out her house to others (you wouldn't do it if you could afford not to). Both were not quite as secure in their lives as they want to be.

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2019 18:49

Christmas Day special with the new baby ( i dread to think what Kelly and Jason will call him or her? I bet it's a 'celebrity 'type name !) and Reg and Pauline moaning about the Turkey would be funny. Maybe Michael and Cathy will get married? Even better!

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2019 18:52

Yes, I picked up on the interaction between the owners and Pauline too. Despite having as nice a home once ( with a larder and a pool ) she still felt inadequate in that world as not being rich enough!

SauvignonBlanche · 19/05/2019 18:53

Can’t RTFT posts as have only finnished episode 5 but Peter Mullan made me cry! ❤️

Want to drive straight into episode 6 but need to show some restraint and make dinner.

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2019 19:20

Derek made me laugh telling Pauline how he wouldn't even go off with Geri Halliwell. Not even a 90s Geri Halliwell!!

CountFosco · 19/05/2019 20:28

Poor Derek, we laugh at him for 90s Geri Halliwell but we all melt at 'you melt me like fucking butter'. Both are saying the same thing aren't they.

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2019 20:30

Michael says it better though. Lol
That soft Scottish accent. His delivery of words.
Derek just crashes through his speeches !
