Same burblish. The books were great for that, tying up ends in say A Dance With Dragons that first came about in A Clash Of Kings.

I also think a rewatch is necessary(!).

TheQueef · 29/04/2019 10:40

Didn't Walder Frey say root and stem somewhere along or was that Arya?

RJnomore1 · 29/04/2019 10:43

Well that blew avengers endgame totally out of the water!

Did johns dragon die?

Does that mean the night king was a targ (can’t be burnt?)

DeadWife · 29/04/2019 10:46

It was Arya. After The Red Wedding telling Frey he made a mistake by not ripping out the Stark house root and stem while they all start choking from the poison.

TheweewitchRoz · 29/04/2019 10:55

I thought it was an amazing episode and totally didn't expect it to be Arya either - fantastic.

I agree with pp though - I'd have liked more of the NK's back story and his motivations and connection with Bran as Bran still confuses me with all the 3-eyed raven stuff!

Lyanna was a superstar and Melisandre redeemed herself for Shireen in the end.

Theon also had a great redemption. I thought Sam did well with the fighting and glad he survived. Jorah wouldn't have been alive to save Dany had it not been for Sam - love how it all ties together.

Cersei is such a clever woman to leave them to fight the undead as their armies are decimated whereas she's sitting strongly in Kings Landing.

Can't wait for next week to see who's left alive.

BreakfastAtLitanies · 29/04/2019 10:57

@dreamingofdahlias Yes I'm fairly sure I saw her at the end when they showed the crypt.

Just sliding onto this thread 3 episodes in Grin

Ifonlygreywormhadatodger · 29/04/2019 11:01

Jesus Christ on a bike!!! That was amazing! I was on tenterhooks through the whole thing and actually screamed out ghosts name when he was running with the dothraki.

I'm lost for words who knew it would be Arya who killed the knight king, little badass! There was also so many things that started to add up, one of my fav parts was when Arya was talking with the red woman about the God of death, "What do we say to the god of death?" "Not today" I now understand why they've mirrored S1 in the final season, just bloody fantastic.

I've now also got to pretend that I haven't it as I promised dp we would watch it tonight, I don't know how I'm going to have the same reactions, it feels like I've cheated Grin but it was so worth it

DeadWife · 29/04/2019 11:02

No no telling The Freys sorry. Just before she ripped off her Walder face Grin.

TheweewitchRoz · 29/04/2019 11:03

What is Azor Ahai? Is that a book thing or something I've missed in the show?

IhateBoswell · 29/04/2019 11:03

Oh I loved the Arya bit with the Night King!

Does that mean the night king was a targ (can’t be burnt?)

They can be burnt though can’t they, Jon was.

Figgygal · 29/04/2019 11:04

I'm watching it now and can't see a bloody thing

Ifonlygreywormhadatodger · 29/04/2019 11:04

Also felt so sorry for the hound, you could see he was terrified being surrounded by all that fire.

itswinetime · 29/04/2019 11:06

Ok I think I'm ready to talk about it now 😂

That was ridiculously difficult to watch I get it we are meant to be seeing feeling what the characters do but really it was so dark and smokey I wasn't sure who had died till I checked here! Some redemption for Melisandre and her past evils by bringing light to this episode though!

As for the content Lyanna brave till the end a fitting death. I liked Danny fighting without dragons. Tyrion and Sansa in the crypts were some lovely moments to! Theon I'm glad there was redemption for him!

Arya killing the night king was a nice twist! Jorah and Danny's good bye with Drogon😢.

But the whole night king plot is that it? This show opened with whites killing people there has been so much building or this great evil and now I'm a bit like so what the night king was just evil and wanted to kill everyone? Especially bran?? It's unsatisfying! Why give him a back story at all if it is irrelevant why not just have him be a ancient evil creature we have dragons why not ice zombies! If it's so easy to kill him dragon glass why didn't the first men do that? Why leave him as a threat and build a giant wall when he is killable with weapons that they had! I hope there are some explanations maybe he imparted something important to bran during the oddly long eye stare!

Ifonlygreywormhadatodger · 29/04/2019 11:10

I reckon we're going to get the back story next week as Bran was out of it for a good while. I know he was watching with the ravens, but what else was he doing/seeing?

Ifonlygreywormhadatodger · 29/04/2019 11:11

It's all just too intense!

itswinetime · 29/04/2019 11:11

Also I have some questions what a surprise

Berick was brought back because he had a job to do, save Arya then he could die.

So presumably Jon also has a job to do before he can die again?

Are both dragons still alive? Rhegar went down hard?

What was Bran doing he went into the ravens but the ravens played no part then he game back just as he was about to get killed?

RJnomore1 · 29/04/2019 11:16

When did Jon burn?

I think it’s a thing that some targs can’t burn- so all people who can’t burn are targs but not all targs can’t burn?

itswinetime · 29/04/2019 11:18

Just watched next week both dragons look alive phew!

Not sure it's Cersei saying the root and stem line! I know she is on screen but I think it's Danny talking!

HandsOffMyRights · 29/04/2019 11:33

Ah 'root and stem' the GOT 'right to be interviewed by an officer at least one rank higher.'

So, back to Kingslanding next week. Wonder what will happen with Bronn and Tyrion/Jaime.

ElenadeClermont · 29/04/2019 11:34

Targs burn like the rest of us.
See Viserys, nearly the Targaryen family at Summerhall awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Tragedy_at_Summerhall, Aerion Brightflame, etc.
The instances when Dany escaped were meant to be one-off magical events according to GRRM. time.com/4336953/game-of-thrones-daenerys-targaryen-fire-immunity/

agirlhasnonameX · 29/04/2019 11:50

Most intense episode ever.

I cried so hard at Lyanna Mormont. The Dothraki/fire swords/flames going out was amazing. I nearly died when I thought Arya was gone and for the first time in my life outwardly cheered when she survived 😂 I thought Ghost was dead too but he's in next weeks trailer. And so happy the dragons are alive.

Wtf was Bran doing...

@Ifonlygreywormhadatodger I love your name 😂 last year I did the same thing, cheated on DP and watched it early then had to feign shock at the appropriate moments. Found that hand clasping over the mouth and leaning forward intermittently seemed to do the trick.

binkyblinky · 29/04/2019 11:50

@itswinetime I agree. Not convinced this is the end of the night king three eyed raven everything else bit.

Fantastic episode but left with far too many questions. Convinced / hoping that Bran turns coat and this doesn't end up a huge disappointment.

Saying that, it depends on what you prefer, the supernatural stuff or the political stuff

Cersei can't possibly know that Winterfell would win. Unless Bran has told her somehow. So she must be sitting there waiting for the army of the dead. She can't possibly know that the Dothraki and unsullied are gone.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 29/04/2019 11:52

It's so dark - I know it's meant to happen at night but seriously - switch on some lights so we can see what's happening!!

agirlhasnonameX · 29/04/2019 11:57

Also, I think Bran was necessary to lure the Night King out and that's been his main purpose, otherwise NK wouldn't have risked himself and the fight would have went a very different way if he wasn't there to be killed. Hopefully he will have something more too though, as it did seem like a very long arc just for him to be bait.

Also also, is it too much of a stretch to think Dondarrion was Azor Ahai after all, because he saves Arya who then obv kills the NK and ends the long night?

Figgygal · 29/04/2019 12:05

Will also have to watch it later as watched it without DH but I won't mind that was amazing my heart was in my mouth the whole time

Do you want to be ridiculously against them though I'm surprised many of them have survived as they have. Poor Theon he died well

I didn't like the stuff in the crypt the women and children being under threat was horrible
