8dayweek I might buy Fire & Blood but I’m just not sure if I’m interested enough in ‘made up history’. I loved the Dunk and Egg stories but couldn’t ‘read’ WOIAF all the way through. I did like the pictures though! Blush

Totally off on a tangent....just been to the GOT exhibition in Belfast. Great fun.

This should have been his ‘great work’ but I think it was just too big a job for someone with his writing style

I kind of agree. I think it just got too big and fast for him. I could tell straight away when the series past the book. I remember watching an episode with the hound in and about four people said ‘cunt’ in different scenes with in five mins of each other and I thought it was lazy. I wasn’t impressed at first. I wasn’t impressed with the first two episodes of this series dialogue either. There was a tiny bit of comedy (I think) which was odd. Also when some of the music started playing, for me it kind of strayed in to upbeat electro (?) (finding it hard to explain) and that threw me. Thankfully it soon stopped and went back in to traditional amazing GoT music.

However I’m completely hooked as it’s took ten years of my life to get here! I thought Arya killing the NK was brilliant. She’s an assassin and one was needed. Can’t wait for next week!

The hound is pretty much only good for memes and beermat slogans these days. I remember when season 7 aired and everyone on a certain subreddit was responding with “dumb c*nt” to just about every statement. At this point I’ve just about given up hating the idea of Cleganebowl and couldn’t give a shit if he dies in it.

I’m happy about Arya killing the NK. I think the setup was a bit clunky and full of plot holes.

TheweewitchRoz · 03/05/2019 21:19

Where in Belfast is that @Lungelady?

PlaidMaid · 03/05/2019 22:07

Does anyone else think there might be a death next episode? Someone dying from injuries sustained in the fighting. Brienne maybe, with a tear-jerking deathbed scene with Jaime that they wouldn’t have been able to do on the battlefield. Would certainly be fan service...

I’m happy Arya killed the NK and I Iove the suggestion of her taking Cersei’s face for the end scene on the iron throne!

OrianaBanana · 03/05/2019 22:24

Suddenly there seem to be very few people around. I mean, who is at Kings Landing. Cersei. Euron. Qyburn and the Mountain. Errrr... Hopefully there will be some good characters in the Gold Company.

TheFirstOHN · 03/05/2019 22:36

Lungelady we've booked to go in August.

TanselleTooTall · 03/05/2019 22:52

Urgh, y'know I'm so over Cersei. She is so flippin' smug, thinking herself so so clever but as Tywin said, "It's not because you're a woman that I don't trust you. It's because you're not half as clever as you think you are". How on earth did she think it'll end for her? Break her promise/allow the NK to kill her enemies/intended to let Westeros fall to the dead, all but her family..what family though apart from the baby? She's all that's left, her twin has abandoned her, Tywin the powerhouse is dead, her allies are next to nothing, she's been publicly shamed and she buys her swords with gold, they're not loyal. She's hanging by a thread. Unless Tyrion comes back into the Lannister fold, helping her against Dany (the big betrayal) I really can't see how SHE thinks she's keeping her bum on that throne, no way.

Rant over!

Just watched the Dan and David interview on The Jimmy Kimmel show.

He asked them if we had seen the last of the White Walkers and the two Ds said they couldn't possibly answer that. 😱

I hope they are just teasing, I really don't want the show to delve back into the WW and the army of the dead, especially after such a perfect ending in Ep3.

The 'live' characters are so much more interesting, for me. There is plenty of mileage to be had in resolving the Jon/Dany/Cersei strands.

Plenty to come . 3 episodes to go. Lots to resolve

ElenadeClermont · 04/05/2019 10:23

D&D may have hinted at the prequel though if it is about the Long Night.

Just watched Emergency Awesome (a youtuber). So was the valonquar prophecy not in the show? I have not seen all the seasons.

C8H10N4O2 · 04/05/2019 10:42

@AliceRR I’m really tempted to order the books

Main problem I can see with that set is the slipcase - the next books in the series won't fit into it and you will have an uneven bookshelf Grin

My eldest had just started school when I bought Game of Thrones having quite liked some of GRRM's short stories.

All my kids are now through education and out in the wild and I'm still waiting for the end of the bloody series over 20 yrs later.

That said, I'm in the camp of "read the books" as there is so much more detail there and I think it does influence how you view the characters.

I'm not convinced Jon will make it to the end - the resurrected have a job to do and his presumably will be complete at the end. I don't see him wanting to be "high king" either.

OrianaBanana · 04/05/2019 10:56

Yes I am thinking there will be some sort of glorious tragic death for Jon.

SweetSummerchild · 04/05/2019 11:20

So was the valonquar prophecy not in the show? I have not seen all the seasons.

The Valonqar was not in the show. I can understand it really; it’s a useful way of explaining why Cersei was so batshit crazy and paranoid when we get to her POV chapters in the books. In the show her hatred of Tyrion is much more straightforward.

TheweewitchRoz · 04/05/2019 11:37

What was that prophecy? Can you give a synopsis to explain Cersei?

SweetSummerchild · 04/05/2019 11:41

OK, I’ll try..... (typing away)

SweetSummerchild · 04/05/2019 11:47

Cersei goes to see Maggy the Frog who can tell fortunes. At the time, Cersei thinks her father is going to marry her to prince Rhaegar.

She asks if she will marry the prince and Maggy says she will marry the king. She will be queen until a younger, more beautiful queen comes along.

She asks if she will have children and Maggy says a number (lots, can’t remember exactly) for him and three for her. She says something like ‘gold will be their crowns and gold their shrouds’.

Then comes the Valonqar bit, which is only in the books. Maggy says something like ‘and when you have drowned in tears the Valonqar will come to choke the life out of you’. Valonqar means ‘little brother’ and Cersei immediately assumes it’s Tyrion.

The memory of the prophecy appears in Cersie’s POV (point of view) chapter in a Feast for Crows (book 4). Up until that point Cersei hadn’t been a POV character, we the reader hadn’t seen her ‘thoughts’. Although it was well established that she hated Tyrion, the reason for this and the extent of her paranoia and madness were not known.

EugenesAxe · 04/05/2019 13:28

Wow that's cool (Valonqar thing). The Belfast exhibition looks brilliant!

I read this from a Telegraph email I got (not really sure why I'm getting these as I don't subscribe, but never mind) - Maisie Williams talking:

“In my final scene, I’m standing in a set that’s completely destroyed, an iconic set, and it’s in rubble and ash all around me. It was a really slow scene, a really delicate scene, and I was all on my own. There was even a white horse that I go up and touch, which is just, I don’t know, symbolic in a strange way. Then anyway, they called wrap and it was just serene and strange. It was also the last day for everyone that day. The crew then gave me my storyboard, and it had Arya killing someone – someone who is the most unexpected person for her to be killing.”

I don't understand how she gets her storyboard after her last filming scene?

EugenesAxe · 04/05/2019 13:32

Or does it just mean she shot her final scene before other scenes in the show that include her the unexpected person?

itswinetime · 04/05/2019 13:54

They don't shot in order do they? so the last scene she shot may not be Arya's last scene if that makes sense. For example it could be her saying goodbye to winterfell before she moves on to whatever is next for her. And I think the story board the gave her is just an iconic story board as that sounds like her killing the night king.

AliceRR · 04/05/2019 17:05

This did occur to me! 🤓

I’d quite like them in hardback too so maybe I’ll just order one and then see how I go with them

Twisique · 04/05/2019 17:29

The ashes fit with Dany's vision of the iron throne.

This is going to sound really nerdy, but I would really suggest getting them in in ebook form. The Kindle and iBook versions have footnotes embedded in the text so you can easily cross-reference who everyone is and how places and houses interrelate.

It’s also worth being able to highlight and go back to certain key events, predictions and conversations. Characters misremember things and conversations which can become important. There are also prophecies and predictions in early books which turn out to be very accurate in hindsight and it’s worth bookmarking them so you can go back to them easily.

Alternatively, just get lots of Post-it tags.

Nerdy sits well with me 😂 That’s interesting 🤔

I do read books on the kindle so maybe that’s an idea
