It was always going to end quickly if the only way was to kill thr NK. Thr trick was getting to him.

The rest will be game of the thrones.
There's Cersei, but there's also the North and the two Targaryen candidates.
It took two episodes to lead to this battle, and it may well take another two to get to the final battle to the throne.
The next will be counting the living, perhaps unveiling a few secrets and redefining loyalties. Then preparation for the final showdown, with a possible red wedding moment thrown in.

SapatSea · 29/04/2019 07:54

The Hound needs his showdown with The Mountain

TheLazyDuchess · 29/04/2019 08:06

I loved Daenerys wielding a sword at the end, I didn't think she had it in her tbh! And she couldn't have tried any harder to kill the Night King, she would have sucedeed, had he not been fire proof.

Arya is fantastic, I literally screamed when we saw her over the NK's shoulder.

That wasn't what I expected, but I really enjoyed it Grin I need to rewatch, (without peeking through my fingers the whole time), later.

Lweji · 29/04/2019 08:31

Btw, is winter still coming? Or has it gone with the NK?
Cersei could get an inkling of the victory by spotting Spring coming, I suppose, because I can't see anyone sending her a raven to inform her.

And if not, will they start worrying about global warming instead?

Jaffacakebeast · 29/04/2019 08:39

Omg!! What an episode.

ElenadeClermont · 29/04/2019 08:50

@SweetSummerchild You were right about the title of the episode.

LadyLannister · 29/04/2019 09:22

MagicStar - we got up at 5.30 too and our sky box wouldn’t turn on for about 5 minutes - I was panicking and about ready to throw the box out of the window.

Fantastic episode and totally didn’t expect Arya to be the one who killed the night king. Loved the suspense of the whole thing. Struggled a bit with the darkness so would advise anyone who hasn’t watched it yet to do so in a very dark room - that made the screen a bit easier to see.

SweetSummerchild · 29/04/2019 09:22

@ElenadeClermont bloody hell, I’ve been right about 2 things this season........ and wrong about 400 or so!

SweetSummerchild · 29/04/2019 09:33

I did feel it went a bit ‘zombie apocalypse’ and the NK arc disappointed me. No back story, no sense of motivation...
I’ve not been a fan of any of the big battle episodes though. Much prefer the quieter ones with the politics.

Same here. I have a headache now from sitting too close to the television so I could make out what was happening.

It was a good episode and well directed. Some things irritated me, but it’s the same with all battle movies.

I really enjoyed the first part. When the Dothraki charged and all you could see was their flaming arakhs gradually being extinguished it really ramped up the tension.

What happened to Missandei and Grey Worm?

Does this make Littlefinger Azor Ahai as he provided the dagger? Grin

HandsOffMyRights · 29/04/2019 09:47

God that was nailbiting. What with that and Endgame I need a lie down.

Gutted when I saw Ed die and then come back reanimated.

Lyanna Mormont, what a little bear, though seeing her blue eyes was sad.

I cried at Theon and Jorah. I couldn't watch when the dead jumped on the dragon.

Arya - yes!!!!

My only criticism - too bloody dark again!

SweetSummerchild · 29/04/2019 09:49

Arya had some serious plot-armour during the episode! It was a little bit too ninja bad-assey fanservice for me. There has been so much emphasis on the white walkers and their symbols and what it all means, and it all ended a bit too abruptly for my liking. I guess he was just the head vampire after all... For a series which claims to subvert tropes the defeat of the night king was a bit anti-climatic.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 29/04/2019 09:51

I need to rewatch it with the contrast turned up and the subtitles on.

Not too sure how trusting I am that anyone not seen in the preview for next episode won't have received potentially fatal injuries. There were just too many points when they were overwhelmed.

SweetSummerchild · 29/04/2019 09:55

Bran was completely bloody useless in the episode. My guess is that he has to do some time-travelling in the last episode to persuade the Mad King to fill the city with wildfire in order that Drogon can Obliterate the red keep and the iron throne and the rest of the dragons.

TheLastNigel · 29/04/2019 09:57

I couldn't really make out what happened with the dragons. Where did they two alive ones go? They just seemed to disappear in the middle of it? Drogon was obviously there at the end with his big old wing round his ma, but what happened to the other?
And I'm annoyed we didn't see more of Ghost or at least him getting back safe-we know he does because of next weeks trailer but he deserves more than that I think.
I also think the amount of survivors in the crypt was a bit unrealistic. They all should by rights have been goners within 2 minutes-I don't believe their cunning strategy of hiding in a crevice in a wall or behind a tomb stands up to scrutiny.
I agree it was frustratingly dark.
But other than all of that that it was cracking. I felt genuinely anxious at the beginning and tv has never Made me feel like that really so it definitely did it's job!

HandsOffMyRights · 29/04/2019 09:58

Just watching the S8 ep4 trailer breakdown. Slight TRAILER SPOILER

Cersei says "We'll rip her out root and stem." Please remind me when that quote was first used in GOT. I've heard it before.

TheLastNigel · 29/04/2019 09:59

As sit something to do with Greyworms anatomy?!

TheQueef · 29/04/2019 09:59

Just done a second watch with subs.
Epic.
I'm really enjoying Sansa and Tyrion.
I've got a hospital appointment so I might watch again in the waiting room now I'm cried out. Grin

WhiskersPete · 29/04/2019 10:03

Anyone know what happened to Brianne and Jaime?

TheLastNigel · 29/04/2019 10:04

They were still standing, if a bit knackered, by the end whiskers...

crosser62 · 29/04/2019 10:08

Just watched it.
Game of thrones has literally entertained the arse off me from beginning to end.
Best thing I have ever persevered with (I’m looking at you Lost...fucking time wasting bag of camel balls)
Don’t want it to end.

Ifonlygreywormhadatodger · 29/04/2019 10:13

@HandsOffMyRights wasn't it varys talking about his bits being taken? "They took the whole lot root and stem"

WhiskersPete · 29/04/2019 10:14

Thanks - I will have to rewatch it. I thought it was a cracking episode. The tension when the Dothraki were obliterated at the beginning was brilliant! Second only to BOTB imo!

I disagree with posters who are disappointed that it was a bit too simplistic and the NK was killed too easily. There had been so much fan theory over things like the Night King’s symbols etc when even the writers have said there’s nothing in it.

Impressed I predicted Jorah and Theon’s deaths!

Ifonlygreywormhadatodger · 29/04/2019 10:14

I'm just watching now will be back when it's finished with a proper comment Shock

HandsOffMyRights · 29/04/2019 10:21

Thanks ifonlygreyworm that was it!

Were Jorah and Lyanna the last in the line of the House Mormont?

Valarmorghulisss · 29/04/2019 10:22

Was proper shouting at the telly when Arya appeared at the end! Surely she is Azor Ahai?
