Some of them were her blood riders right? That's supposed to mean close companion/guard and yet she just seems to stop acknowledging that and hanging out with Jon on dragons....

SweetSummerchild · 01/05/2019 09:35

agirlhasnonameX thank you! I think you’re right about the Dothraki and the giants, although it’s a shame it happened off-screen. The army of the dead definitely had more giants when they were heading south.

I don’t think the arakhs were dragonglass, but they may have been. Gendry had certainly been ‘busy’ in the last couple of episodes.

The Dothraki scene was pretty spectacular to watch and ramped up the tension pre-battle, but that was about it. In all reality, I’m not sure what other use they could have had. Their usefulness seems to be largely based on psychological fear tactics, and that’s pretty useless against a well-disciplined defence or an army of the dead. There is a bit in the book about how a small band of unsullied managed to hold off multiple waves of assault from the Dothraki to protect a slave city.

I was really, really expecting Sam to p*ss his pants after he saw the Dothraki flames go out and saw the wight horde approaching. It was what he did at the Fist of the First Men. Oh well, just goes to prove his battle abilities have improved.

I have a question! I have never read the books but LOVED the series so dont know if it is explained by the author. Given there is such a connection between Bran and the NK, could the NK also have warging abilities? Could he have warged into Bran on the point of his death (like that other wildling warg who went into an eagle when he was being killed)? Finding it hard to believe that that’s it for the biggest boogey man/threat of the whole show.....

CoraPirbright · 01/05/2019 09:45

Oh and did anyone see the Throne cast following the show? Poor Sue Perkins was doing her best but her guests were almost mute!! It was awful. Have an opinion, people, its what you are being paid for!!

CoraPirbright · 01/05/2019 09:47

Oh and another thing!! Can the NK/white walkers/army of the dead cross the sea? Surely at some point a guy who can raise the dead with just raising his arms would work out how to put everyone on ships? If not, why didn’t everyone just evacuate so some lovely hot place like Narth or Dorne and just settle there (I hear the wine is good Grin)

SweetSummerchild · 01/05/2019 09:49

CoraPirbright there is hardly anything really known about the Others in the books so far. There is no Night King and no real purpose for them established.

Warning (changing into wolves) and skinchanging (changing into other animals) is mentioned more in the books. Jon, Bran and Arya can all do it with their wolves. Arya skinchanged into a cat in Braavos. GRRM has said that all the Starks can do it but Sansa’s abilities have been delayed due to the death of Lady. Bran can also skinchange into Hodor.

Sadly, I think the entire Night King/Other storyline is finished in the show. The rest will be the human conflict with some time-travel meddling from Bran towards the end.

LazyFace · 01/05/2019 09:51

Cora, I'm with you on the NK. I can't believe that's it. To me it's all about the cycle of summer/winter life/death while the humans play their games ...
i also had this thought that apparently season 8 will refer back to season 1. Season 1 started with some Knight Watch members being killed by White Walkers. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole season ended with them as well.

Honeyroar · 01/05/2019 10:21

Cora I watched Thronecast. Hodor bloke talked a lot, but the female guest didn't even sound like she'd watched GOT!

I had expected dead Hodor and other "goodies" that were killed by wights to have been brought back to fight for the army of the dead. It would've been a twist.

Honeyroar · 01/05/2019 10:22

I'm sure the last shot of season 8 will involve a dead person opening their blue eye somewhere..

agirlhasnonameX · 01/05/2019 10:24

They where all her blood riders! Tbf though I think the blame lies with Jorah not Dani. Was just pointless to send them to their death, entertainment wise great but in reality Jorah should know better.

Given there is such a connection between Bran and the NK, could the NK also have warging abilities?
I've always thought NK was a green-seer and that's why he could touch Bran, that's how he knew now was the time to invade as he saw the dragons coming and knew he'd need one to breach the wall etc. Would have been pretty cool if he and Bran had had some sort of mind battle, possibly difficult to show on screen but maybe they could have been fighting with swords (Bran can walk when he is green seeing) to represent their mind power fight.

Tightarseparent1 · 01/05/2019 10:26

cora I agree. The lady guest was awful. And the things she picked up on where meaningless, almost as if it was the first episode she watched.

Fazackerley · 01/05/2019 10:30

all the guests were pretty terrible but she was embarrassing. Wtf was she even on it?

Lweji · 01/05/2019 11:10

I'm sure the last shot of season 8 will involve a dead person opening their blue eye somewhere.

I've been thinking the same but with a baby.

ElenadeClermont · 01/05/2019 11:44

The Dothraki had to die for Dany to be defenceless. I do not know who was the Supreme Commander of their Allied Forces, but could have been someone calculating like book Jaime:
If I speak the command, my coz will bridge your moat and break your gate. Hundreds will die, most of them your own. Your former banner-men will make up the first wave of attackers, so you’ll start your day by killing the fathers and brothers of men who died for you at the Twins. The second wave will be Freys, I have no lack of those. My westermen will follow when your archers are short of arrows and your knights so weary they can hardly lift their blades.

TheInvestigator · 01/05/2019 11:51

But Dany united all the the Khalassars when she burned down the temple, did all of them come with her? Are the Dothraki men now wiped out?

I'm assuming the Dothraki women and children didn't come along (or at least stayed in the reach or in dragonstone or something) so the aren't wiped out as a race, are they?

TheInvestigator · 01/05/2019 11:55

The night king isn't the main point of the series. It's always been politics and the way men behave. It's always been about what will become of the seven kingdoms and the great families. The night king and his army just added more depth to that story because he was a threat to all of it. He was a huge part of the story, a great mechanism for creating allies and changing priorities, but at the end of the day, it's the game of thrones... It's about who rules the kingdoms.

Fazackerley · 01/05/2019 11:57

I agree but I think they've just put all that to one side and gone...ooh, zombies, we can make it a bit like the walking dead, with lots of endless talking then the occasional big zombie battle.

agirlhasnonameX · 01/05/2019 11:58

The Dothraki had to die for Dany to be defenceless.
They had to die for the plot, but the way they died made no sense. As the only cavalry they should have been utilised better.
Although Jaime isn't exactly the most trusted person in the North, he would have been at better use commanding, it's what he's best at now.

ElenadeClermont · 01/05/2019 12:04

TheInvestigator The Dothraki army in Westeros died. Hopefully the rest of them are safe.

Tightarseparent1 · 01/05/2019 12:05

I think some posters over think plots, episodes, characters ect.. I just take it on face value that’s it’s a fictional fantasy drama which has taken ten years of my life! Grin

Not sure what could ever fill the gap tbh!

Tightarseparent1 · 01/05/2019 12:09

TheInvestigator

I agree. I’m just waiting to see who is perched on the iron throne in the end shot. Gotta day I think they are female. I wonder if they will look at good as the gorgeous Lena Headly!

JasperRising · 01/05/2019 12:26

And then you go into Reddit/game of thrones forums/YouTube and end up backing away quietly realising posters here don't even scratch the surface of overthinking Grin

SweetSummerchild · 01/05/2019 13:11

They had to die for the plot

That sort of sums up the writing of the series at this point. The series is now written to satisfy certain plot points so that ‘shock and awe’ moments can be delivered at the correct time. Some of the character development has been lost in the process. Arya is now the most super duper badass character in the universe, but literally 4 episodes ago (s7e4) she was being totally fooled by Littlefinger into thinking Sansa was puclic enemy number 1. She was recommending Sansa behead the Vale Lords and threatening to take Sansa’s face. This was ALL done to draw out Littlefinger’s executiion until the series finale and introduce a bait-and-switch scene which fooled no one.

I really enjoyed the episode - it was the first battle I’ve seen on TV for many, many years where I didn’t know the outcome beforehand. I really felt the tension and the impending doom. At the end, it all just resolved way too quickly over the course of about 2 seconds.

RedForShort · 01/05/2019 13:54

Agree with you there Tightarseparent1. Haven't ventured to Reddit as I'm sure it gets quite bat shit!!! Definitely over thinking and creation of their outcomes which they commit to so much that if don't occur means it was 'shit', 'ridiculous' or 'cop out' (or something similar).
