That was epic. I've been so tense watching I now feel utterly drained.

I screamed 'Arya!' in despair when the NK grabbed her. Then I scream/roared 'Arya!' in triumph when she did her nifty dagger move.

Thankfully my few neighbours were all out as I expected a knock on the door to see if I was OK. I imagined my hyperventilating self answering the door and just gasping 'Game of Thrones' before closing it again.

Fucking epic.

It was hard to make out a lot of what was going on due to the darkness of the scenes so I'm going to watch again tonight in a dark room as recommended.

Lweji · 29/04/2019 15:34

For those complaining about the dark scenes, you can also probably go to settings on your TV and increase the light on your screen and/or contrast. See which combination works best.

Tilikum · 29/04/2019 15:38

Baby Bear Lyanna Mormont was brave to the last Sad

Find it hard to believe Sam survived since he was on the bottom of a Wight pile-on at least 3 times.

I am so emotionally drained now. What an episode. The Dothraki flaming arakhs blinking out of existence in the darkness were just terrifying.

Alys Karstark

Probably dead (second item):

Love how Arya is considered MVP there. Grin

AfterLaughter · 29/04/2019 15:50

Is anyone else going to click that Jon is a Targ? He can ride a dragon, he doesn’t get burned by fire. Someone’s got to click?! Can’t just be him and Dany/Sam/Bran they know?

And fuck Bran. He’s useless and ridiculous and has served no purpose so far other than to reveal Jon’s true parents.

I hoped Arya would do well, with her faceless and stealth training but man I did not see that. Did she steal a wights face? I’m rewatching now Grin Contrast and brightness up all the way but it’s not much better tbh.

Will there be more fatalities revealed next episode? They looked pretty beat down.

I love Dany but my God she is useless without her dragons. Really should have learnt to fight.

Sam had no business being up there, Sansa had it right.

Will Dany be a Mad Queen? Will Cersei blow up Kings Landing? Will Jamie be Queen Slayer (either Cersei or the Mad Queen)? Will Arya steal Jamie’s face and kill Cersei? Will the country turn on Cersei when the story of Winterfell is heard? Will Dany kill Jon for the throne?

AfterLaughter · 29/04/2019 15:56

Jorah has broken me. But Dany had to lose someone close to her.

Theon. I knew he was going but I kinda hoped he wouldn’t.

SweetSummerchild · 29/04/2019 15:56

And fuck Bran. He’s useless and ridiculous and has served no purpose so far other than to reveal Jon’s true parents.

This is a show that kills off any character wiht no purpose. I believe (as do many others) he still has some time travel meddling to do. It is a theme with a lot of GRRM older stories, and I can’t believe it will only be used for ‘hold the door’.

D&D have said that there were three ‘holy shit’ moments that GRRM told them about. One was Shireen being burned, one was the origins of Hodor and the last will come at the very end of the series. I’m prepared to bet that the final one has something to do with Bran and his meddling.

Personally, I think Dany or Drogon will blow up Kings Landing - possibly by mistake and due to the wildfilre that the mad king stashed around the place due to Bran’s time travel meddling.

I may be totally wrong. I probably am. I’ve made three accurate predictions in two seasons and four hundred wrong ones.

Lweji · 29/04/2019 15:56

Did she steal a wights face?

That would make sense. Not sure if possible, but I will watch it again tonight and see if I can spot any wights with odd movements.

Lweji · 29/04/2019 16:04

Wait...
She could be this WW:

DragonglassHeart · 29/04/2019 16:05

I've just watched the ep.4 teaser on Youtube and the subtitles state that it is Dany that says 'We'll rip her out root and stem.'

AfterLaughter · 29/04/2019 16:08

I feel there’s more time travel fuckery to be seen too. Where did his Ravens go? He’s a sly fucker is Bran. Why was he so important that the NK felt he had to kill him himself? That’s what’s got me stumped.

I’ve just finished the second watch and didn’t spot anything re wights, just the wind then BOOM there she is. Bugger. But then again my TV is old and crap Grin

I hope KL falls. I’d like whoever rules to rule from the North.

Re Sansa and Tyrion - was she going to go stab some dead people or was she going to kill herself? Me and DBro have conflicting opinions on this.

WhiskersPete · 29/04/2019 16:10

The music really is brilliant

TheQueef · 29/04/2019 16:20

I think hope Sansa was preparing to fight, with the dagger that stabbed Bran?

SweetSummerchild · 29/04/2019 16:29

Sansa was preparing to fight with the dragonglass dagger given to her by Arya.

Arya used the catspaw Valyrian steel dagger to kill the NK.

itswinetime · 29/04/2019 16:33

The dagger Sansa had was the one of dragon glass Arya gave her at the start and I think it was a let's fight face there is no point in killing your self against an army of the dead! Sansa and Tyrion would get that.

The dagger that stabbed bran is what Arya used on the night king isn't it??? The Valyrian steel one that we know little about apart from little finger had it I think?

Interesting idea Arya stole a walkers face not sure if that would have been possible though, as the actual walkers only seemed to appear right at the end with the night king and walked as a group! But maybe there were there fighting and then came together at the end for the night king. Makes more sense than he created them so he could have a boy and walking in through the smoke moment!! Because what other point did they have? Why take all those babies when the walkers didn't do anything! The frustration is back it seems Wink

yumyumpoppycat · 29/04/2019 16:51

Haven't read the whole thread but agree sam was really annoying - which I guess is more realistic than everyone being brave to the end.

Very very sad about theon but this quote from the books on a website linked to on here a few posts down made me choked
"Please. A sword, that's all I ask," he says. "Let me die as Theon, not as Reek."

Sad about Edd too.

I am glad the hound helped save arya. I didn't guess how much a part Melissandre would have - I do wonder if it might be Lady stoneheart who says those words to Arya in the books.

Love that it was arya who killed the NK and also how they mirrored lyanna against her. Arya had to do all her creepy training while still remaining loyal to her family in order to be able to kill the NK.

All this time travel talk has me a bit worried that the NK will come back. I really hope that is not the case.

I don't see how they can defeat cersei at the moment so interested how that plays out.

Lweji · 29/04/2019 16:52

The WW were basically the NK's cavalry, weren't they? The actual thinking force, rather than mindless wights.

The NK shouldn't be easy to kill, for one because he was hard to find (hence the trap) and was almost invincible but also because he was surrounded by his WW body guard.

itswinetime · 29/04/2019 16:58

They probably were but all we really saw of them was moody walking through the smoke with him it just seemed a bit of a let down I guess. And what did they need a thinking force for the plan seemed to be clear overwhelm them with whites and if they start winning raise everyone again.

But it was only 90 mins they couldn't have everything covered in that time so I accept they probably did more see didn't see off camera.

MidsomerBurgers · 29/04/2019 16:59

I couldn't tell if Tormund survived or not. I think he was zombiefied wasn't he?

Honeyroar · 29/04/2019 17:01

I watched a post episode with the producers and they were talking like the NK was dead.

I think the only way they'll defeat Cersei now is by obliterating Kings Landing with wildfire, which will take some finding and plotting. They should send Bran down to look for it, or even detonate it, as a Raven.

itswinetime · 29/04/2019 17:06

Tormund survived he is in the preview for next week when it looks like they are burning all the dead! I guess as a pp said they wouldn't be able to bury that many.

Lweji · 29/04/2019 17:07

I think the only way they'll defeat Cersei now is by obliterating Kings Landing with wildfire

Or... use the secret entrance (Tyrion) and an impersonator (Arya). There are many possibilities in this respect.

But I'm more worried about the infighting and how dirty Theon's uncle plays. Cersei too.

SweetSummerchild · 29/04/2019 17:16

I’m still so undecided about Arya killing the NK. I’m 100% sure it won’t happen this way in the books, but then again I think the big dragon/dragon battle will be against Euron.

The Arya bit sort of came out of nowhere. Then again, when a battle is shown in this way, with the protagonists so outnumbered and at such an obvious disadvantage, then a deus ex Machina moment is about the only thing that will work. Too many main characters survived the Hardhome 2.0 resurrection and the wights in the crypts.

Personally, I’d have preferred to see Theon rising again to kill the NK as some final act before dying - it would have seemed more realistic. Arya ninja-ing in out of nowhere seemed odd.

Bollocks to all the ‘Melissandre foreshadowed it’ crap either - Melissandre was bastardising something the Ghost of High Heart said to her in the books that could never be seen as foreshadowing her killing a white walker. Melissandre made that ‘prediction’ back in S3, when she still believed Stannis was the prince that was promised. Then she thought Dany was the Prince that was promised. Oh well, I suppose even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day...

youngestisapsycho · 29/04/2019 17:17

I’ve watched twice now.... but the last 12 mins, all the slo mo and the amazing music..... I’ve watched that bit 7 times. It’s amazing!

youngestisapsycho · 29/04/2019 17:21

Do we know why Melissandre decided to die at the end??
