10 minutes to go!

I just don't get Sam's sorrow for his family at all, anyway. Although he wasn't close to his father (or brother) he is an empathetic person who wouldn't want to hear that his relatives had been burned to death.

I thought in the tv show though, Sam found evidence of an annulment and then a marriage to Lyanna. Which then matched with Brans visions of a wedding and then the childbirth? I maybe wrong? I haven't got to rewatch that far in season 7 yet so it's just by memory but I thought that was part of the whole 'you aren't a barstard you never were' comment because in the tv show at least Jon is seen as a legitimate heir? I might well have remembered it wrong though or added the annulment I'm in the last 2 years!

eeela · 15/04/2019 19:52

Shamelessly place marking as I'm so confused atm

ElenadeClermont · 15/04/2019 19:54

itswinetime I am sure you are right. All I am saying that the beautiful dreamy Rhaegar is a toerag in the books (if you think.about it) and deserved everything that came to him in the tv show if he truly left his wife and children to their fate like that.

itswinetime · 15/04/2019 19:54

I think it might be in part because they had lost and were prisoners so were killed for not bending the knee as opposed to in the heat of battle. Danny had a choice and she choose to kill which I think Sam finds a) hard and b) something Jon or a true fair and just ruler wouldn't do in his opinion.

Absolutely Rhaegar is a arsehole whichever way you look at it he left his wife and children alone to die ( they weren't as well protected as to Lyanna if I remember it all right). So he could marry again and hopefully fulfil a prophecy. But then what G.R.R.M does is give us complex characters that are rarely either simply good or evil they are complex. Which is mainly why I think the Night King must have a goal that is more than just the destruction of the living that would be to simple for the story we know so far.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 15/04/2019 20:10

Grown up Brandon Stark looks like a cross between John Lennon and George Harrison ... and I now can’t unsee it 😑

TheLazyDuchess · 15/04/2019 20:17

Just on the other thread

"According to a certain newspaper the new credits show four dragons on the sword which appears just before the show title. Could signal the arrival of a fourth targ (Meera Reed?)"

Or a baby Targ..?

*I've just seen this on the other thread [that should have said]

Not sure if I missed it in all the reunions but did they do Lyanna M meeting her long exiled uncle?cousin? Jorah?

DragonglassHeart · 15/04/2019 20:40

John Lennon and George Harrison And my brain adds a good dash of Professor Brian Cox too

placemarking for later

itswinetime · 15/04/2019 20:46

Not that I saw

Re the credits

This article has a link to the new credits if anyone wants to examine close

credits

The swords seem to be telling the story so far Robert and the Lannister's defeat of the Targaryen's. The second with the dragons could be anything it looks like there are definitely 3 maybe a 4th fighting together so if it's a future picture it would be Jon, Daenerys and 2 others symbolised at least if not directly related to Targaryen's. Not sure who they would be.

I think there are clues in there the crypts of winterfell I think we all knew would be important and the dragon at kings Landing could be foreshadowing? But I'm not sure about the 4 dragons. I think this is a screen shot of the part referred to unless there was another?

Was Littlefinger mentioned at all? Jon asked Arya if she had used Needle but I'd think her biggest kill was LF with the Valyrian steel dagger she has on her other hip?

According to this Buzzfeed article the new swords show: the fall of the Wall, the Red Wedding, and the birth of Dany’s dragons.

Honeyroar · 15/04/2019 21:33

Re Sam being upset, I think that he always cared about his family and kind of hoped for his father's praise, despite the rotten way he treated him.

TheweewitchRoz · 15/04/2019 22:02

In agree @Honeyroar

I'd forgotten that all the strife with the Starks & Lannister's started with Jamie & Bran.

Loved all the mirroring with the very first episode - thought it was great overall.

ElenadeClermont · 15/04/2019 22:04

itswinetime You are very right. It is just such a horrible way to go.

I saw the Sam scene now. Randall always looked down on Sam, because he was such a sensitive and caring boy. Sad

Bran waiting for an old friend was awesome.

ElenadeClermont · 15/04/2019 22:08

One of the Targaryen swords, Blackfyre, does have dragons on it I think.

Wrongdissection · 15/04/2019 22:59

Is this the only GoT thread? I thought there’d be hundreds of pages by now!

Honeyroar · 15/04/2019 23:00

I know! I thought there’d be a lot more comments after 9pm.

KittyWindbag · 15/04/2019 23:19

My thoughts :
A solid but not exciting episode. They had to establish an awful lot of ‘where we are so far’ after the two-year wait, I suppose.

I liked seeing Gendry back forging the dragon glass. This seemed to me one of the only things to move the story forwards, albeit subtly and overshadowed by Jon’s revelation.

I like the progression of Sansa’s character very much, but god help me that girl can’t act. Even the way she speaks doesn’t work. Unfortunately for her, her scene was followed by a banger with Cersei and Euron and Cersei is wonderfully acted.

There were a lot of ‘comedy’ moments in this episode, no?? I’m all for it I think you need a touch of humour to balance out the unrelenting pain of GoT but it seemed strange there were so many LOLs.

I find it hard to believe this new shamanic hippie see-they time version of Bran now would be angry with Jamie. So What will that be?

KittyWindbag · 15/04/2019 23:20

Oh and surely Cersei only had sex with Euron because she IS already pregnant and needs a recognised ‘father’ for the child. She cannot admit it’s her brother, after all.

Mner2019 · 15/04/2019 23:44

Great start. Loved the mirroring of the first ep and relieved no main characters have died yet. Some great lines from Sam, Tyrion, Sansa and Tormund. I totally get sam’s sadness for a father he struggled with - my mum has been truly awful over the years but I am still sad that she is now ill. There were good times too in amongst the shit. He will be grieving what you could have had as well which can now no longer be.

Hadn’t twigged re bran waiting for an old friend was jamie. I thought it was Sam!

PreseaCombatir · 16/04/2019 00:19

I thought Sam was close to his brother.
His Dad was a dick, but he got on well with his brother?

I loved the ending. Jaime’s face, now that’s acting. JS and DT take notes.
Awkward because it’s your friends bf? ‘It’s called acting?’ They’re not acting well though, are they? Are they’re getting paid enough? All the chemistry of a cold wet fish.

I thought it was interesting looking backing at me during the first season, how much I loved Dany and hated Sansa.

Thought that was quite interesting as I was sitting there silently willing Sansa to slap the smirk off Dany’s face.

Also, no, Dany didn’t give up shit. She said she wouldn’t help unless Jon bent the knee. She burned the Tarleys.
I’ll bet that you’ll hear her screaming ‘burn them all’ before the end.

Also, WHERE is Ghost?!? 👻 🐺

PreseaCombatir · 16/04/2019 00:22

I also think there’s something special in the crypts, I don’t know what, but there’s something

We’ll find out why there must always be a stark at winterfell.
