10 minutes to go!

OP posts:

Brienne was stood behind Sansa when the Targs arrived.
Gendry is the last Baratheon (in the show at least) so maybe he’s there so all the houses are represented at some last stand, or something.
I was surprised that Sam was upset about his father, who after all, packed him off to the wall for not being manly enough.

It was pretty much an hour of scene setting with not much happening apart from confirming where everyone is now and having R+L=J confirmed. I reckon it’ll be similar next week with events ramping up during the four longer episodes.

onedayallthiswillbeyours · 15/04/2019 08:21

I know people have mentioned potential giant white spiders (urrghh!). Did the umber boy wall swirl have 8 legs???? Need to rewatch.

I thought it was a great opening episode, and felt quite emotional at all the reunions. Calm before the storm...

TheQueef · 15/04/2019 08:26

Sansa is so regal.I
I hope her and Tyrion team up.
Love the hound reunited with arya and Arya showing her fondness for Gendry.
Enjoyed Davos, Tyrion and Varys having a gossip.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 15/04/2019 08:31

Loved that apart from the green screen work on the dragon ride which looked a bit naff on my telly.

I foresee an awkward conversation next week:
Jon: I am actually Aegon Targaryen, Rhaegar’s legitimate son, your nephew and rightful heir to the Iron Throne
Dany: Gosh, that could have been problematic. Thank heavens we’re already in love, so our marriage will settle everything amicably and we can rule together.
Jon: Which part of “your nephew” did you not understand?
Dany: Confused

Lweji · 15/04/2019 08:32

Are Sansa and Tyrion still married?
There was a sort of unilateral annulment for her second marriage, but was it legal?

onedayallthiswillbeyours · 15/04/2019 09:02

So Jon spent 95% of the episode telling everyone that titles don't matter. I wonder if he feels the same now he has been told he is the actually, legitimately the King of everything??

It would be like me saying money doesn't buy happiness and then winning the lottery. Not going to turn it down on principle am I?🤣

SweetSummerchild · 15/04/2019 09:06

Lweji I think we can safely assume their marriage is annulled.

In the books, a high septon or a council of the seven could have annulled an unconsummated marriage. However, in the show it seems that marriage/Nights Watch vows are a little more temporary.

Rhaegar and Elia’s marriage was annulled - even though it had children - and nobody seems to remember the fact that Sam has abandoned the Nights Watch (which we saw someone executed for in S1E1). Same for Jon, although he has the excuse that he died so technically his watch ended.

fancynancyclancy · 15/04/2019 09:18

I was scared by how Drogan looked at JS, he was giving him evils!!

I defo believe the spiders are coming.

Loved Jamie’s face & how it pretty much summed up all the chain of events caused by pushing Bran.

fancynancyclancy · 15/04/2019 09:22

Was suprised at the lack of reaction to “yeah the dragon is a wight now & the wall is toast”

AngeloMysterioso · 15/04/2019 09:35

Having a morning re-watch... is it me or has JS's accent got even more Sean Bean-y since we last saw him?

AngeloMysterioso · 15/04/2019 09:42

Also, as sweet as the JS and Arya reunion was it wasn't really true to character for her... I mean yeah she'd be so happy to see him and all but is she really the jump up into someone's arms type anymore?

Lweji · 15/04/2019 10:20

Lweji I think we can safely assume their marriage is annulled.

Null, yes, but properly annulled, I'm not so sure. They could still become the Ferdinand and Isabel of the 7 kingdoms. Grin

ElenadeClermont · 15/04/2019 10:20

Rhaegar and Elia’s marriage was annulled Was this mentioned in this episode? Sorry, I have not seen it yet.

TakenForSlanted · 15/04/2019 10:26

Is there supposed to be any obvious chemistry between Jon and Dany? I could buy it as a political alliance/marriage, but as a romance it just falls very flat.

It does, doesn't it? I mean, how on earth do you manage to take your destined love out to a spot of utter natural beauty and manage a kiss with such little authenticity.

I'm reasonably certain I could pull off a better impression of "true love's kiss" in the conference room during the weekly management meeting with my boss as a partner and a powerpoint presentation elaborating on the trope in the background. Confused

Lweji · 15/04/2019 10:34

I mean yeah she'd be so happy to see him and all but is she really the jump up into someone's arms type anymore?

I think she would, but only for Jon. Or her parents if they were alive.

pisspawpatrol · 15/04/2019 10:39

Does anyone else think that the Umber boy being impaled like that looked a heck of a lot like the Targaryen flag, especially when it was burning?

Lots of theories I have read seem to think the Night King is possibly a Stark, but I'm beginning to wonder if he is a Targaryen.

TheFirstOHN · 15/04/2019 10:45

Parts of it were so dark (not just metaphorically) that I could barely work out what was going on.

New credits! With blue ice spreading south. And going inside buildings.

Arya seeing Jon, the Hound and Gendry for the first time in years. Made me feel all warm and glowy.

The (remaining) Starks lined up in the courtyard of Winterfell to greet their queen: echoes of a similar meeting in S1.

Qyburn hiring Bronn to deal with the Lannister brothers - of course it has to be done with the toilet crossbow.

Only Targaryens can ride dragons - is Dany in denial about Jon's heritage?

The dragon watching would put off even the most ardent lover; like having your dog in the bedroom but 1000 times worse.

Samwell to Daenerys after she admits she executed his father: "At least I can go back home, now my brother is lord." Erm...

Bran & Samwell: "You tell him." "No, you tell him."

Jon is upset to learn that his adoptive father lied to him. But not fussed to find out that he's been shagging his aunt?

Is that the first time Bran and Jaime have met since the scene in the tower in episode 1?

ElenadeClermont · 15/04/2019 10:53

Jon is upset to learn that his adoptive father lied to him. But not fussed to find out that he's been shagging his aunt?
We do not love Jon for his brains.

pisspawpatrol · 15/04/2019 11:04

Yes, definitely the first time Jaime and Bran have seen each other. I don't think Jaime even knew Bran was alive. Can't remember if he still thinks he was burned by Theon, or maybe that he is missing? Remember, only Sam knew he had let him through the Wall years ago.

Anyone up for theorising on Dany's behaviour? Jon told her the Northern people are very distrusting and then she smirks when her dragons arrive. I also thought she was threatening Sansa when she said they eat 'anything they want'. Almost as if Dany (she's a dragon after all) was saying she would do what she wants?

TheFirstOHN · 15/04/2019 11:11

I was surprised that Cersei did get in bed with that awful man.
She now has the option of passing off Jaime's baby as Euron's.

HandsOffMyRights · 15/04/2019 11:14

Really enjoyed this. The nods to the very first episode, the reunions.

My heart broke a little for Sam.

I was watching a fanboy breakdown regarding the symbols and the burning boy being another symbol for the prince who was promised, that the flaming sword is in fact a flaming child...

Have you watched the ep2 trailer yet?

HandsOffMyRights · 15/04/2019 11:16

I agree with passing the baby off as Euron's, but still not convinced what she's gain by that.

Euron is at her command already now that she's shagging him and she wasn't bothered in S7 when her staff saw her sharing a bed with Jamie.

Maybe she'd do it just to spite Jamie?

fancynancyclancy · 15/04/2019 11:24

where is ep2 trailer?

Furries · 15/04/2019 11:26

During the opening credits as we take a journey through the various buildings, near the end the Iron Throne takes form. As that happens, a sidual rises in the window behind the throne. I’ve rewound it about 5 times, but can’t say 100% whether it’s a wolf or a lion - am wondering if this is a little clue hidden away?

Lweji · 15/04/2019 11:27

She now has the option of passing off Jaime's baby as Euron's.

True. But still... Does it matter? She did seem pleased with the idea, though.
