10 minutes to go!

OP posts:
fancynancyclancy · 17/04/2019 01:00

I didn’t find it any more menacing than usual personally- it’s not like they smile normally!

ha ha, this is true. But I kinda felt it was a look of warning or mistrust & the fact that JS knew he was being watched emphasised that. However I’ve not had enough exposure to dragon expressions to be sure.

And yet, Cersei considers herself a Lannister Good point

Honeyroar · 17/04/2019 07:15

Yes, you’re right- Jon definitely reacted as though it had given him a look! When I was watching I thought he’d seen something behind the dragon, but spent the whole episode waiting for White Walkers to appear and kill someone! I mean who goes off for a romantic ride up North in the snow knowing that you’re miles from help and that the night king killed your other dragon! When Dany spoke about how nobody would ever find them if they stayed there I thought she’s tempted fate, the white walkers must swarm out from around the corner now, but nope, I was wrong. That would have been a first episode to talk about if Jon, Dany and both dragons had got killed!!

AngeloMysterioso · 17/04/2019 08:12

I’m just glad Cersei managed to sort out her lockjaw problem. I swear every line she had in S7 was delivered through gritted teeth, it really started to get on my nerves!

HandsOffMyRights · 17/04/2019 09:36

No, he pre-dates the Targs' arrival there by (000s of years?)

He is riding the dragon using magic/powers.

HandsOffMyRights · 17/04/2019 09:39

Sorry, last post was in response to this
If the night king is going to ride a dragon, does that mean he is a targareon?

Remember, his dragon has been reanimated and the King can control the dead.

Mner2019 · 17/04/2019 09:49

Fair enough!

PlasmaRain · 17/04/2019 13:37

If it helps, it’s a patriarchal society so you belong to your father’s family rather than your mother’s. Cersei is a Lannister because she was born a Lannister ie her father was a Lannister; she became a Baratheon only through marriage. JS is a Targaryen because he was born a Targaryen to a Targaryen father.

OneInAMillionYou · 18/04/2019 02:33

Dragonstone is an island ( not that far from Kings Landing actually) but still within Westeros.
I believe Westeros is 'this land' that Melisandre was referring to.

Wonder when and where she will show up?

captainpantbeard · 18/04/2019 13:30

there's a scene in the season trailer with Arya running scared in the crypts

Since there's not much that scares Arya these days, we are convinced she's running from zombie Starks.

The Night King might just raise some folk from the dead...

Also wondered if Cersei might try to do a deal with him to raise her children, Pet Semetary-style.

Definitely agree with the poster somewhere above who said that characters aren't simply good or evil and so what is the actual goal of the Night King. There must be more to it than just killing everyone....?

captainpantbeard · 18/04/2019 13:38

Interview with the Night King actor - a teeny bit spoilery as he does say a little bit about the Night King's character and intentions.

maddieharrison · 18/04/2019 22:59

@captainpantbeard thanks for posting that. One of the things I was wondering was what the hell does the night king want??? I think it might be Daenerys to be his queen

nipersvest · 19/04/2019 14:31

That interview says "There’s also that moment [in 'Hardhome'] when Jon Snow was on the boat and the Night King looked at him and raised his arms — there’s a similar and even stronger moment between Jon and the Night King this time,"

Does that mean whatever battle takes place at Winterfell, which looks like its in episode 3, both Jon and the Night King are still alive, but people Jon is close to are not?

SweetSummerchild · 19/04/2019 15:49

Since there's not much that scares Arya these days, we are convinced she's running from zombie Starks.

I don’t think there are going to be any zombie Starks. I think there is probably some ‘old magic’ in the crypts of Winterfell which prevents the re-animation of Starks as wights.

I think Arya is probably running from a White Walker. I can imagine she is going to be chased into a darkened room where she’ll do a repeat of the encounter with the Waif and kill it in the dark with her dragonglass dagger. This will cause many of the wights who are fighting the allies to drop dead (as in season 7) and will effectively end the battle. Meanwhile, Jon will be somewhere else doing something else to try to kill the Night King.

The women, children and eunuchs will hide in relative safety in the crypts and avoid the battle (D&D have said this is a callback to the battle for Helm’s Deep in the Two Towers) and will emerge after the zombie horde has been driven back. Winterfell will be trashed and they’ll have to retreat south as Chekhov’s Food Stores will have been burnt to a crisp by dragon fire.

I’m probably totally wrong.

My big question is at what point will Melissandre arrive?

Tunnockswafer · 19/04/2019 18:31

I had to run away from two shopworkers in Tesco today who were discussing their GOT theories while stacking shelves.

Figgygal · 19/04/2019 19:58

Revisiting the whole series with sky's recap of season 1-7 had forgotten just how much had gone on

Honeyroar · 19/04/2019 20:02

We watched a couple of recaps before this season started. They were very useful.

I'm loving watching the Ozzyman Reviews again on YouTube. He's so funny.

SinkGirl · 19/04/2019 21:22

Okay, I have a question...

Dany can’t be burned by fire, and managed to reincarnate some fossilised dragons because she “is a dragon”.

Viserys was killed with a snazzy molten crown and Dany said he couldn’t “be a true dragon” or fire couldn’t kill him.

But Viserys was a true Targaryen, right? There’s not some more secret family history I’m unaware of? If not, why is Dany a true dragon and he’s not? And is Jon / Aegon also going to be immune to the hot stuff?

I may be overthinking this.

ppppppickupapenguin · 19/04/2019 21:35

I asked a similar question on the other thread SinkGirl, John isn’t immune to fire because he was burnt back in season 1 when a dead thing came alive and went for Commander Mormont, I think Ghost finished off the wight.

SweetSummerchild · 19/04/2019 21:55

Targaryans are not fire-proof - if they were then Summerhall wouldn’t have been such a disaster (fire caused when Aegon V tried to hatch a dragon egg and killed several Targaryans).

Targaryans are more ‘heat resistant’. How Dany survived Drogo’s funeral pyre is the cause of much discussion.

In the books, the burning of the Khals in Vaes Dothraki hasn’t happened (yet). The show makers have taken a lot of liberties with the ‘scientific rules’ of the universe - dragonglass now kills wights whereas it never did before - so assume all rules are somewhat flexible.

Another explanation is that Dany is a double-dragon in that her parents (brother and sister) were both Targaryans whereas Jon is more of a half-blood (prince).

Mner2019 · 20/04/2019 00:20

Great ozzyman review. Thanks honeyman

SinkGirl · 20/04/2019 07:11

Thank you Sweet and penguin - I’ve just rewatched the lot but didn’t focus on some of it as much as I’d like and I totally missed that Jon was burnt in that scene with the wight and Mormont.

I think this is where I’m getting confused, because Viserys and Daenerys (and Rhaegar) had the same brother/sister parents, right? So it can’t just be a parentage thing, and she is just somehow magic, basically?

I understand why people think there’ll be dead Starks coming up - they really are spending a lot of time focusing on that crypt aren’t they, and the Ned statue in particular.... hmm.

While rewatching I can’t believe I didn’t see the Sept of Baelor thing coming - that hidden stash of wildfire was mentioned three separate times, including Tyrion reeling off where it’s rumoured to be stashed (including under the SoB) an episode or two before. So now I think I’m looking out for where they’re going more!

sashh · 20/04/2019 07:31

Having a morning re-watch... is it me or has JS's accent got even more Sean Bean-y since we last saw him?

I thought that was deliberate, my Yorkshire accent comes back when I'm in Yorkshire or with Yorkshire residents.

I was dragged away from God's own country over 40 years ago.

Re the dragons and Jon, they would have know he was a Targaryen at first sight (or scent and using dragon mythology from other universes).

I also had a thought that maybe this whole thing wasn't about Starks, Targaryens and Lannisters but about the dragons, one is now ice.

Interesting!

ccmrob12 · 20/04/2019 21:58

Bronn won’t kill Tyrion. We all know it.

I have a theory Tyrion is a Targaryen too. I think he might be the one who ends up on the throne. Remember his father told him he was pinky adopted as a favour to his mum. And he freed the dragons unharmed....
