That really tickled me!

This maya storyline has made me so cross at Emmerdale.
Not contacting the police in the first place when there would be witnesses and cctv, then Jessie hasn’t been on screen since the news ‘broke’ and no mention of meetings in school etc, there’s been very little mention of Jacob not turning up to GCSEs, Layla suggesting they write to the boards- surely the school would have been involved by now and already done this??
Maya returning to the very small village when on bail and now this fiasco with David and Layla.
I was hoping this would be done seriously but it seems to have been pushed out. Don’t know if I’m going to bother to keep watching

It's always the same with these "issue" storylines. They start well and say they are working with whichever organisation is relevant but then they can't resist all the unnecessary drama and lose sight of what is important.

Jacob should be the focus not his idiotic parents.

What the hell is going on?! If it wasn't bad enough the hash they are making of the Maya situation, now David and Leyla are getting it on. This is such a serious issue and none of it is being handled properly. Even the scene in the pub the other night with Bear saying sleeping with your teacher is every school boy's dream sounded very contrived as though the writers were trying to have a debate about grooming and abuse.

I'm also cross about the way the whole story is playing out. Emmerdale have been so good in the past dealing with abuse. And Victoria's rape has been dealt with and acted excellently so I don't understand why it feels the Maya and Jacob storyline is just one big joke.

Yeah they’ve really ballsed up the whole storyline haven’t they. It was an opportunity to showcase a really serious issue, but nah, let’s go for the drama, forget that there are real children going through this right now.

The scene with bear in the pub seemed like they’ve were trying to do what eastenders did (amazingly well) with ruby’s Rape. Everyone was talking in the pub with their own perspective. It was very “real”. But that scene with bear was just an oaf spewing Neanderthal shite.

Can’t understand why Jessie hasn’t been involved in this at all. Makes me think she must have had to deal with RL stuff or something. There’s no way a head teacher wouldn’t be all over this.

The thing about that Bear scene though is that Chris Chittell actually said the same thing in real life!

So they tell him they’re doing a child abuse storyline and this is his response! He even links the article in the metro that calls it child abuse and he refers to it as a young man’s dream. He refers to child abuse as a child’s dream?? And he has not only kept his job but been heavily involved in the storyline?? What the actual fuck are emmerdale thinking?

Added to the fact they had a convicted criminal play a rapist a few weeks ago.

Proof that emmerdale really are just paying lip service to these very serious issues for the ratings.

And after watching tonights episode I can only think that this storyline will just fade away with no real conclusion, Maya will probably get a short sentence and Jacob will be over the whole thing by the end of July and declaring his love for Liv or Gabby.

David is a complete and utter gobshite and has shown no understanding of what his son is going through at all, it's all about David!

David is heading for a breakdown. Remember when he was with Alicia and they were a lovely steady couple. Since she left he just drifts from one woman to the next and back again. I really don't know how they're going to resolve this story now. It's all over the place.

It's annoying me how they keep calling layla jacobs mum. Aliesha is his mum. Leyla is his auntie. The biology is irrelevant here. It's like they want to pretend Aliesha doesn't exist and David and Leyla were always his parents, which is nonsense. As you say, the steady life he had was when David and Aliesha were together. And also, tbf, when he and Tracey were together. Leyla has only ever been a disaster.

I thought after Tracey and he kissed in the club that they might get back together. To me that seemed far more realistic than him and Leyla again. Now it will never happen.

JaneJeffer I think they are building towards an Aaron & Ellis affair. It will be a slow burner storyline but def headed that way.
