GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8. Possible spoilers

Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

Something niggling at me...

Jorah having a Valerian steel sword is going to be very important.

Why?

There was a really long story arc about Jorah having greyscale, how terrible this was, how this drove him to leave Daenerys to find a cure (or more likely to slowly horribly die), and then the cure was ridiculously easy. So was that entire story arc merely so that Jorah and Sam would meet, and Sam would ultimately give him his own father's sword? (Okay, and also so Sam would leave the citadel in disgust, to be in the right place to do dual reveal with Bran)

yumyumpoppycat · 25/04/2019 01:23

Oh yes he offered to stay with Bran, I guess maybe that would be a kind of happy ending for theon if he dies nobly and saves him, but would be a bit like the hodor scene which made me cry not sure I can cope with that.

Bran flake Grin , ahh I was reading something about him being all the Brans so quite literally All-Bran

yumyumpoppycat · 25/04/2019 01:27

Maybe Jorah will go to the crypt and save sam?

HandsOffMyRights · 25/04/2019 07:24

I wondered that about Jorah - such emphasis placed on the sword.

He may die defending Sam and his family to atone (even though he didn't kill them personally) for the burning of Dickon (sniggers) and Randall Tarly.

ElenadeClermont · 25/04/2019 07:30

Now that I saw Brienne become a knight of the Seven Kingdoms, I do not mind them being wiped out. That is all I hoped for.

They clearly will not have sex with Jaime now. So I am convinced that Jaime dies protecting Brienne. Brienne saves Jaime and Cersei's baby from retribution and raises him or her. Because she is charged to protect the innocent.

How do you know that 2 years have elapsed since last season? Because then it is pretty pointless to sleep with Euron to pass the baby off as his.

SweetSummerchild · 25/04/2019 08:17

I wondered that about Jorah - such emphasis placed on the sword.

Jorah will die saving Lyanna Mormont with the sword. His character arc is pretty much done now. I can’t see him surviving the battle. Ditto for Theon.

I’m still undecided about Jaime and Brienne. Jaime still has unfinished business with Cersei and Bronn. Brienne, however, may follow in the footsteps of her Lord Commander ancestor Ser Duncan and die in some act of valour saving someone incredibly important.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/04/2019 08:27

If Jorah goes hen I can't see it being to save anyone except his beloved Khaleesi.

JasperRising · 25/04/2019 08:43

I hope that either Jaime and Brienne both survive this battle, Jaimie and Brienne both die fighting alongside one another, or Brienne dies saving Jaimie (or maybe Sansa). I don't want Jaimie to die saving Brienne. She has spent her while life fighting to be recognised as a knight, she should get to survive or die honourably in battle - having a man step in and save her would personally spoil her character arc.

ElenadeClermont · 25/04/2019 08:48

Jasper You are right. I just want her to know that she is loved. Book Brienne thinks that no man can love her. A marriage of convenience has already been offered to her in the book and I wondered if that comes into play later to conceal a child. There has to be another secret child at the end.

DobbysLeftSock · 25/04/2019 08:51

Agreed jasper. Also I think it wouldn't really be enough of a end to Jaime's arc either - we saw him walk away from Cersei at the end of s7 but if that's the last interaction between their characters ever, that would be a bit of a let down.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/04/2019 09:10

I don't think Jamie and Brienne will get a HEA. He will kill Cersei and then himself as he can't live with her but can't live without her. There's that story in the book about Azor Ahai and how he kills his true love Nissa Nissa and then himself. Everyone assumes that refers to Jon and Dany but what if it's Jamie and Cersei instead?

SweetSummerchild · 25/04/2019 09:15

I don’t recall Azor Ahai killing himself. He had to temper Lightbringer by stabbing Nissa Nissa to end the Long Night, but I don’t remember him killing himself.

Jaime and Brienne are not going to have a HEA though.

ElenadeClermont · 25/04/2019 09:54

No, I did not think HEA was on the cards for anyone really.

MinesaPinot · 25/04/2019 11:09

Haven't read through the thread, so apologies if this has been clarified before, but what's HEA?

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 25/04/2019 11:11

Happily ever after

TeaForTheWin · 25/04/2019 11:58

I think tyrions 'maybe after im dead i'll march down to kings landing and tear her apart' (cerci) speech was foreshadowing.

But I actually think, Brienne might die to save Jamie and also... brom might shoot tyrion with the crossbow and then finally (having seen real good in the world and truly becoming good himself, coupled with knowing cerci paid brom) Jamie will go to kings landing and strangle cerci'. It could be tyrion instead...but I just think it's more of a poetic justice if Jamie kills her.

AngeloMysterioso · 25/04/2019 12:14

All this Azor Ahai/Nissa Nissa business isn’t really a thing in the TV show, why do people keep going on about it? Melisandre has talked about TPTWP but doesn’t go into great detail about the prophecy itself.

BlackCatSleeping · 25/04/2019 13:26

Is it Sunday yet?

Drums fingers...

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 25/04/2019 15:46

For anyone thinking the Arya/Gendry thing has come out of nowhere don't you recall the sideface scene from season 2?
I don't think she ever considered him as like a brother...

The clip is worth a watch anyway Grin

TheLazyDuchess · 25/04/2019 17:05

I hope GRR Martin finishes "the winds of winter" soon. I read the asoiaf books first, and as much as I love the show, in some ways it's been a filler until WoW is released.
I've been loving the prequel and spin off asoiaf books and stories (I think I've read all but one short story), and I hope when WoW is published, Martin keeps them coming while he finishes "a dream of spring". It'll be interesting to see how much the plot diverges from the show, and how much Martin manages to tie together.

Aberforthsgoat · 25/04/2019 17:14

ha @ihaventgottimeforthis excellent clip
I think it's obvious Arya had a crush on him for ages, whereas for Gendry it was like woah hold on a second when they met again recently

me too @thelazyduchess although I don't think I really believe he will any more!

SweetSummerchild · 25/04/2019 17:27

TheLazyDuchess oh my sweet summer child, you are highly optimistic! I had a ‘serious’ moment a few months ago when I thought about where Martin is intending to go with the story and how many unresolved stories there are and I reckon he is, at best, about half way through the series. I just don’t think his writing speed (for this narrative) is up to it.

It’s sad, as the books are so much more interesting than the show and the show characters have, for the most part, become caricatures of their book counterparts. However, I think this is the only ending we’re getting.

I love the Dunk and Egg stories, but Targaryans on the whole don’t interest me too much so I haven’t read Fire and Blood.

dinoegg · 25/04/2019 17:35

Does anyone else think in 20 years time once all the books have finished and all the hype died down, they will remake?

Although I guess it won't be the same because the surprise element won't be there

WhiskersPete · 25/04/2019 18:14

all the Brans so quite literally All-Bran

Excellent Grin

Aberforthsgoat · 25/04/2019 18:52

I keep reading theories that Arya is actually the waif wearing arya’s face. I cannot see that at all because IT JUST WOULDN’T MAKE ANY SENSE if it does happen, I will RIOT.
