Married At First Sight- is this for real?

This can't be real, surely? Who would be insane enough? I've never seen the show, but do they explain if it's actually an official marriage? I would have thought that the whole concept goes against the solemn nature of the legal contract.

Yes to the pet thing. It's a complete deal breaker!

How do the experts get this so wrong?

viques · 10/04/2019 22:43

Wow, Steph is so miffed that he got in first with the annulment papers. Good work johnathan, a worm turned has triumphed!

Rachel0Greep · 10/04/2019 22:43

So that's a 0% success rate so far, I'm sure you could get better matches randomly throwing darts at photos on a dartboard.

Definitely!

viques · 10/04/2019 22:46

Just realised I am an hour later than everyone else because I'm on catchup, now watching Jack and Verity, decided I don't really like either of them, her for her irritating voice, him for his laddish attitude.

unique1986 · 10/04/2019 22:46

Opposites don't attract.
Should have put Verify and Jonathan together.

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs · 10/04/2019 22:46

Oh god. Steph could have just taken the ring back with good grace but no, has to be a drama llama.

JaneJeffer · 10/04/2019 22:48

I found Jonathan a bit creepy and hated how he kept calling Stephanie "the lady". I wouldn't wish him on Verity!

I think Jack was hoping that a spark would grow as they were well suited besides. Shame.

RainbowFox · 10/04/2019 22:50

I feel so sad for Verity, she was clearly heartbroken. I can relate to how she must have felt lead on for those 3 months (without the marriage and tv part!). She was definitely the nicest out of all four of them.

I may have shouted 'yes Jonathan!!' when he put the annulment papers under Steph's pillow, like he had scored a goal. I too wish he hadn't backtracked on it. Steph came across as so rude throughout the experiment.

This series was appalling really, especially when I've watched two series of the Aussie one (on channel 4 app for PP asking). Even the decision day was flat tonight, where were the experts that invested no time in doing the matches ?

Moanranger · 10/04/2019 22:51

I may be alone in thinking this, but Jack was completely cynical, a total phoney. He was gaslighting Verity with all the “ oh, I really want to know you well before we get intimate”, she was right to think that they should be letting it happen naturally. I hope she learned from this to follow her instincts. Sexual compatibility is hugely important. I remember in the early part of the series, Jack mentioned his Rule of three (eg, sleeping together after the third date) Where did that go?
He just wanted to be on reality TV. I think he got off on the idea that Verity fancied him, like he was some great catch. Loathsome.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/04/2019 23:01

Ffs I just lost a really long post.

I'm short - Steph was unbearable, like a sulky teen who thinks they're doing you a big favour by gracing you with their presence!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/04/2019 23:01

**in short

PineapplePatty · 10/04/2019 23:02

I'm disappointed we didn't get to see verify and Jonathan. I think they were both fully committed, geeky and a bit different. I think they might have had a chance.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 10/04/2019 23:06

The team were committed to better geographical matches this year, @PineapplePatty, or they possibly would have.

Romcomjunkie · 10/04/2019 23:09

Yes Jack was awful, knew all along he would never fancy her but strung her along so he could come across as a good guy and stay on the programme for as long as possible!

This programme is just like The Voice - zero actual success rate but we still go along with it anyway and so do the ‘contestants’ - people like to live in hope!

Romcomjunkie · 10/04/2019 23:17

And that hammy thing with him calling ‘dinner’s ready’ and his mate waltzing through the door was quite cruel and he shouldn’t have gone along with it!

Peghi · 10/04/2019 23:19

Cant stand Jack, this wont be the last we hear of him I'm sure.

I hope verity does take away an awareness of her own self worth from this. Shes lovely.

I think Jack really did just string her along - nd the "weve pleasured each other" was a horrible overshare.

Romcomjunkie · 10/04/2019 23:22

Yes Peghi, he’ll probably be on First Dates next week.

The pleasuring thing was so cringe I wasnt sure I heard it right and had to rewind!

Peghi · 10/04/2019 23:24

If you're willing to "pleasure" someone then not sleeping with them because you need to get to know them first is plain odd.

showmethegin · 10/04/2019 23:24

FWIW as nice as I'm sure Jonathon is he would be the opposite of what I would want and I can see how it must be upsetting and frustrating however..

Steph's attitude stank. (Understand it could just be the editing). It weirdly reminded me of bullying work bosses, they make you feel so insecure and unsure of yourself you end up completely losing your confidence as you're totally on edge all the time; it can make you behave in ways you never would in a normal situation. And I think that is what happened here with Jonathan. He looked totally broken by it, like he had been walking on eggshells for weeks. Not conducive to a mutual getting to know one another.

PineapplePatty · 10/04/2019 23:36

Omg I missed the pleasuring bit. Urgh.

dayswithaY · 10/04/2019 23:43

I think it's a cruel experiment that never ends well.

Rachel0Greep · 10/04/2019 23:43

And that hammy thing with him calling ‘dinner’s ready’ and his mate waltzing through the door was quite cruel and he shouldn’t have gone along with it!

That was shit and I agree, he shouldn't have gone with it. He seemed very immature.
I missed the comment about 'pleasuring one another' thankfully.

I was sorry Jonathan rowed back on the annulment papers thing. I felt sorry for him, I thought Steph made no effort and seemed repulsed by him, which was uncomfortable to watch.

Olinguito · 11/04/2019 00:41

I felt sorry for Jonathan, but he appeared strangely unable/unwilling to read Steph's emotions. He seemed to be convincing himself that they were having fun when she was totally bored, and couldn't see that she loathed him and everything he did! On the other hand I didn't like the way that Steph treated him with such distain.

Verity was too good for Jack.

happyhillock · 11/04/2019 00:50

I don't feel sorry for either of them, it was a stupid experiment in the first place, i cringed watching tonight's episode, if there's another series i wont be watching it, you have to be really desperate to take part in it

AlunWynsKnee · 11/04/2019 01:05

Does anyone else see Boy George's mouth on Steph?

Verity came out of this best. She seems sweet and nervous. Jonathan was similar but more undermined by his mother.
Jack was a twat.
Steph thinks she wants a grown up (Daddy issues?) but she's still holding out for a bastard made good.
