We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references.

We have a few frequently used acronyms:
FL/2FL = female lead/2nd female lead
ML/2ML = male lead/2nd male lead
SLS = Second Lead Syndrome (where the FL/MLis too thick to realise how much better the 2ML/2FL is)

We also abbreviate titles if they’re long, but only after using the full title & acronym together. Some of the regular favourite actors have been abbreviated too for speed/efficiency, although “him off Black” seems to have stuck for Song Seung-Heon. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clues if we’re not making sense or have descended into acronym soup.

Better bloody be!!

Going to bed... Accidently went to bed at 3.30am last night! Watched all of Orange Marmalade... With a fair bit of skippitydoodah-ing!! A strange one! Felt like they threw everything but the kitchen sink at it!!... Very disjointed but I wanted to know what happened... And before I knew it!... It was 3am! 😱😱😱

Bea’s 3.30am confession has made me feel better. I was just popping in to let Betty know ep 5 of Her Private Life is 96% subtitled now, so should be done by morning. Yay! I’m finding tge slow pace of subtitling on Fellow Citizens frustrating, but what can you do? 🤷‍♂️

Final observation for the night: Cast Off Girlfriend from Hospital Ship and that one with the accidental pregnancy is back in Thirty not Seventeen as rival violin prodigy, pretty much reprising her usual malevolent, dog with a bone pot-stirrer role. I feel a bit sorry for the actress as she seems to be typecast. I’ll faint if I ever see her in a warm FL role.

Yy but also as soon as she pops up you know what her dynamic is going to be, so it’s a bit of a giveaway, although at least in 30/17 it is a slightly happier turnout if that’s not too spoilery.

Bea fingers crossed for happier episodes on Psychometric it’s got so dark! And I can’t believe he’s the villain ....
I read mixed reviews of Orange Marmalade but totally understand skipping until 3am to find out what happens as foggy logic tells you it’s better to do that than waste time on it the next day 🤣 I did that with Beating Again (but only with the corporate boardroom bits)
Have started Kill it but am distracted by the aged assassin being the baddie from DotS & Mr Sunshine’s best friend.

OK, Her Private Life is my favourite thing at the moment. KJW and Park Min Young are a great pairing. I really, really like KJW’s reserved performances and his wolfish smile at the end (rumbled!) was great. It’s hard to describe the dynamic in this one - perhaps slo-mo erotically-charged game of cat & mouse? Love it, love it, love it. Now hurry up with the ep 6 subtitles already.

The age gap thing in 30/17 is interesting - clearly much more of a problem for an older woman to be with a younger man. Poor Chan. 😕

Yy and blowing on it to dry, I mean who does that? Almost as bad as the thing shoelaces thing, it infantilises whereas the hair tangle thing is much more adult

Aaarghh! Ihave so much to do. In a 30/17 rabbit hole. Can someone please send sandwiches for my kids?

(Truthfully, DS2 and I are planning on making seafood jeon - Korean pancakes - in about half an hour. I have defrosted prawns, scallops and squid specially.)

Yum post a pic! I often make spring onion pancakes now, and have just bought some garlic chives seeds to grow so I can snip them Healer style into food. I do need some longer blade kitchen scissors like the bbq ones but haven’t found them in my local Korean supermarket.

I’d eaten half of mine before I remembered to take a picture, but here goes. DS2 and I agreed to halve the mixture next time we have them for lunch, as there were lots.

I could eat that right now it looks delicious!

The first two were delicious. The second two were gluttony and not as enjoyable. The frozen Patagonian scallops from Sainsburys are about the size of a pound coin (but fatter), so perfect for jeon.

It’s up but only 14% subs 😫😫

I was keeping an eye on the subs last night - they were pretty quick, 94% by c.00.30. If I hadn’t had to be up early this morning, I might have succumbed.

I just saw its at 95% already - WOOHOO!!!

Also, I really hope none of our regulars here are a MsLatte. I feel fairly secure that our consistent appraisal of all the lovely young kdrama actors concurs with our claims to be middle-aged women having a second tween fangirling phase.

I am feeling the need to update my oppa list. KJW is very charismatic.
