We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references.

We have a few frequently used acronyms:
FL/2FL = female lead/2nd female lead
ML/2ML = male lead/2nd male lead
SLS = Second Lead Syndrome (where the FL/MLis too thick to realise how much better the 2ML/2FL is)

We also abbreviate titles if they’re long, but only after using the full title & acronym together. Some of the regular favourite actors have been abbreviated too for speed/efficiency, although “him off Black” seems to have stuck for Song Seung-Heon. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clues if we’re not making sense or have descended into acronym soup.

The King 2 Heartsis a bit naff and the FL’s character is uneven, swinging between super professional badass soldier and fluffy “I just want to get married, but men just want a son like me! They don’t see me as a woman!” So she’s been told to share a barracks room with the playboy prince.... 🙄 You can see the plotting from space. I think it’s going to be a twist. Lee Seung Gi’s highly flammable “high end fashion” (=hideous) camo tracksuit has swung it for me. There’s only so much I can bear.

Yes, Go Ara is in it but outnumbered by the chaps. I’ve realised the older cop in Surrounded was Devil King in Korean Odyssey, so it’ll be interesting to see him in a less OTT role. Interesting how ensemble casts pop up again in new series together. Do you think the main talent gets to “recommend a friend”? More likely, they share agents who push their stars on the casting team.

On ep 38 of Empress Ki. Every time I think it’s flagging the dastardly baddies do something awful with a lot of smirking and the pace picks up again.

It’s quite hard to tell who is the main hero, as somehow Grr JCWs flawed slightly pathetic character is more endearing than the macho warrior ex-king (though he does do very good sad yearning looks)

Ooh new Netflix series with Jisoo looks good!

At only 8 episodes at least 2 of us would watch it if its crap, because Ji Soo.

More happy news from Soompi on thread fave Siwon: Choi Siwon will return to acting with KBS 2TV’s Monday-Tuesday drama “My Fellow Citizens” on April 1. The drama will be available on Viki. It was at the foot of a fluffy story (does Soompi do anything else) about Siwon attending a dinner at the Blue House.

Fluff? Soompi? Surely not! 😂😂😂😂

All Viki - I find the scoring on Viki quite accurate, I wish they had similar on Netflix

Agree about the viki scoring, though it clusters at 9+ so not the full marking range if you see what I mean.

I’m having trouble settling to anything. I’ve had a run of so-so series. I want something more substantial & classy. By substantial I mean quality and depth rather than 50 episodes. Any ideas? Has anyone tried The Package on viki yet?

Not but it’s on my list, will be interested to know what you make of it for when I eventually finish Empress Ki which is good but flagging a little now
