We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references.

We have a few frequently used acronyms:
FL/2FL = female lead/2nd female lead
ML/2ML = male lead/2nd male lead
SLS = Second Lead Syndrome (where the FL/MLis too thick to realise how much better the 2ML/2FL is)

We also abbreviate titles if they’re long, but only after using the full title & acronym together. Some of the regular favourite actors have been abbreviated too for speed/efficiency, although “him off Black” seems to have stuck for Song Seung-Heon. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clues if we’re not making sense or have descended into acronym soup.

They are nice I've noticed that. However neither ML or FL are very good at acting. It is strangely reminding me of a Sunday night series from the 80s set in a yachty world, can't remember what it was called.

I’m doing my 10 minute shuffle and have stumbled into My Only Love Song where an effing awful diva of an actress gets transported from her Joseon Dynasty period drama to the real Joseon era. I have to say that on the badis of the first 20 mins it could be very funny. She effs and blinds like a docker, had a reputation for mass brawling in school and is totally badass in a selfish, argumentative bitch sort of way. There’s a lot of mileage in dropping a character like her into a historical period when women were demure and subserviant.

I’ve gone back to Stranger, which I only got 2 episodes into about 6 months ago. I jumped straight back in at ep 3, so I’m having to really dredge up my memory of ep 2. However, I think Bae Doona and Cho Seung Woo are a really well cast pairing and a great combination already. I love Bae Doona - she was one of the bright spots in Sens8.

Tell us what kind of mood you’re in Penguin and what kind of lead you like and we’ll make some suggestions.

I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again, Bae Doona In Sense8 is the reason I started watching kdrama and Stranger was what got me hooked.

Maybe you should whizz through the first couple of eps to refresh your memory boatyard.

I watched the first episode twice trying to get started so I can remember the crime scene and the chase etc. I will go back if I need to, but I’m on a roll now.

Tonight has been a fail. Feeling tired and grotty, so kept nodding off during Stranger. Will have to retrace my steps tomorrow night, as I sense the trail of breadcrumbs and clues is crucial. Can’t help feeling it was a mistake for the prosecutor to search that young woman’s basement flat with no gloves on, leaving a trail of fingerprints.

Agree about the kangaroo care, very itchy teeth making. Have only just clicked that FL is same as one from Secret GArden & I didn’t like her in that either, plus she is 13 years older than ML 🤔

Hospital Ship - done. Great scenery, likeable male lead, but otherwise a bit wishy-washy.

Oh poo I just started watching Empress Ki for a bit of Grr JCW and it's the FL from Hospital Ship with her bad acting......may have to skippety doo-dah
