Did anyone else watch this tonight? I thought it was great! The contestants are warm, genuine and with normal ego levels. There's no pouting, posing, naked bodies.... just ordinary people racing to Singapore with little money and no internet. I'm loving the glimpses of people helping them along the way.

No, I like Alex's dad too. I think he has Alex's best interests at heart and making him take the lead has been good to see.
As a PP said though, he wasn't happy when Alex stood his ground and did it his way! 🙂 Too used to Alex following him round like a sheep.

I wondered about the tourist stop-off as well. Do you think that’s part of the criteria? Ie. You must stop and do some sight seeing. It’s seems contrary to the concept of the race.

Does anyone watch Hunted? Alex and dad reminded me of the father and son duo on their a few years back, where youvsaw the son visibly grow throughout the programme. It’s lovely to see Alex maturing and growing.

The two hipsters have reached different places in their lives. One wants to settle and enter the next stage of life, the other wants to continue being young free and single.

underoverunder · 25/03/2019 11:43

curbside This is the only prog we watch live

Yes - us too. We're watching with teen DDs and we're all enjoying it and can't wait for the next episode.

John and Felix are the only couple I've not warmed to. They seem like people who try too hard to signal with external markers that they're interesting people, in yet come across as the least interesting.

underoverunder · 25/03/2019 11:43

Josh - not John

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 25/03/2019 11:58

I think each stage they must be required to do at least one bit of work or sightseeing.

dottypotter · 25/03/2019 13:14

its good but confusing. Some are working, some are not and if its a race why are some of them stopping off to do activities?

AlbusPercival · 25/03/2019 14:33

I think as well as their being forced to do things by producers they are also trying to enjoy the experience rather than overly focussing on winning

iwantavuvezela · 25/03/2019 15:49

Really enjoying this as well - i so loved the early series of The Amazing Race, but i am enjoying this very much. I like that it
I am loving the father / son relationship and seeing the son's own development, making decisions, chatting to the lovely Chinese co-worker -

I also like the two (women) who have been friends - they make me laugh and i loved that they took the time out to go and ice skate and seem to really enjoy the journey as well.

Loving the scenery and seeing places that i have not had a "visual" on before ...

5foot5 · 25/03/2019 16:49

I like Alex's dad too. Couldn't stand Alex at first but I am warming to him now. Looks like the Dad's strategy in making him take decisions is paying off.

Horsemad · 25/03/2019 16:58

It'd make pretty boring TV if they just sat on a train for X hours, so I suppose the sightseeing/working adds entertainment.

ABC1234DEF · 26/03/2019 14:50

Pretty sure they have a break at each checkpoint? To allow the others to catch up then set off again at a specified time? Pretty sure Sundays episode said something about 36 hours down time before setting off again.

Also makes sense for them to do something to kill some time if they can't do the next part of their journey until the following morning or whatever

BigSandyBalls2015 · 26/03/2019 14:53

Love this series. Not keen on Alex’s dad, he can’t have it both ways with alex either he wants him to step up and make decisions or not .... and for gods sake give the lad a hug ....

Givemestrengthorgin · 26/03/2019 14:58

If you enjoy this programme then try and get a hold of the tv series The Amazing Race. It's American and brilliant. I thought that's what this BBC programme was going to be like but it's tame in comparison. Well worth a watch if you can find it anywhere.

Still18atheart · 26/03/2019 14:59

ABC but the touristy bits were before the checkpoint so they were still racing. The older couple who went on a river boat hadn’t got to the checkpoint before the show finished even

Petalflowers · 26/03/2019 16:31

The 36 hours was because Alex and dad were so far ahead.

NewSchoolNewName · 26/03/2019 16:49

I don’t know if they’re required to do tourist stop offs, but if I was doing this race and my route passed close to something high up my list of things I want to see / do, like the Great Wall of China, or the Terracotta Army, then I’d find it near impossible to resist the temptation to take a detour.
It’s not exactly like you can pop there on a whim under normal circumstances.

Samcro · 26/03/2019 16:58

i am still loving it. the teachers are annoying, but like all of them
loved Alex chatting with that girl. his face when she said he was good looking.

SquareTriangle · 26/03/2019 20:06

The 36 hours is an enforced stop off. It's not so the others can catch up; all teams spend 36 hours in the hotel and leave when their own 36 hours is up, so the time gap between the teams remains constant both before and after the enforced stop.

If that makes sense!

Whynham · 26/03/2019 21:24

It reminds me of a program on ch4 decades ago where several couples are dropped off in the middle of nowhere and have to race back to London with a small budget having to negotiate lifts/transport for as little as possible. Great telly.

LaLaLamp · 26/03/2019 22:07

What do you mean by watching it 'live'? Is it broadcast live then?

TwitterQueen1 · 26/03/2019 22:25

LaLa - no, not live live - just not on iPlayer! I think many people watch Baptiste.

We just watched the latest episode I'm really enjoying it as it's not dragged out. Really good and I hope they do it again

Honeyroar · 26/03/2019 22:35

Ive only seen the last two episodes, but have really enjoyed it.

I've watched, and loved, The Amazing Race for years. It's quite different. The American contestants often don't seem capable of even finding their way around their local town, and aren't usually as likeable as the uk contestants. In the US version they have "roadblocks" which are challenges that all teams must complete before they carry on. There's usually a choice of a physical, tedious task or one that takes more thought. It's an interesting twist.

oldowlgirl · 26/03/2019 22:54

I assume they mean they're watching it when it's broadcast on TV as it's definitely not a live show.

I'm really enjoying it too - like all of them in different ways actually.

OneInAMillionYou · 27/03/2019 06:57

I love The Amazing Race.

I've never understood why it hasn't been shown regularly on British tv, or a British version made.

They are now on Season 28, I think, in the USA. I have the DVDs sent to me by an American friend. There have also been spin offs in Canada, Asia and Australia.

Slightly different to this show, as they are allowed to fly, also the teams are a bit more TV fodder!
