And so it begins!

I must admit I love this programme mostly to watch the parents Blush Strong contenders for the unhinged parenting award are the PHd in Chemistry mum or the Twins' mum. She clearly thinks the world of her son and her daughter is a not so close second.

I love when parents like Connor's are on the show; they are genuinely so in awe of him and are so proud of his achievements. No pushiness from them at all, they will be proud whatever the outcome 😀

Omg @ Michael and .Melissa's mum - how to favour one child over the other Shock First child too lazy to read a book for himself so his mum does it!

Love this programme , dc appreciate me more afterwards!

wishingitwasfriday · 25/02/2019 20:36

I feel so sorry for Melissa, she will forever be in her brothers shadow.

nervousbreakdown · 25/02/2019 20:48

William’s mother looks like Aunt Sally Hmm

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 25/02/2019 21:11

Just watching on catch up. Oh dear PhD mum, daughter just looked completely fed up and sidelined.

CatherineCawood · 25/02/2019 22:50

nervous yes it's the badly drawn eyebrows and blusher that does it!!!

The kids are amazing aren't they. On another level. The old english stuff is like learning greek or something, spectacular.

2rebecca · 26/02/2019 19:05

They should get 1 point for defining the words too. Williams mum is doing completely the wrong thing basing her life and intelligence around his life and not making him read his own books and find his own goals

SauvignonBlanche · 26/02/2019 19:10

William’s Mum is scary! Shock

Reastie · 26/02/2019 19:16

Dd and I went to the recording of one of the episodes, we were seated right next to all the parents. I was surprised how seriously and competitive some of the parents were Hmm

GingerbreadTeen · 26/02/2019 19:21

I was in awe of these children in the old English round. How did they learn that in an hour! Also the spelling round, although tried to ignore the annoying 'haitches' instead of 'aitches' that nearly all of the children were guilty of.

MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue · 26/02/2019 19:25

Oooo love this show and yes, it's because I'm often horrified by the pushy parents! Connor's family seemed lovely and down to earth though!

evaperonspoodle · 26/02/2019 20:16

Kaja is throwing her toys out of the pram because a mobile went off during Michael's round. "I'm not happy at all!" You can tell the panel think she is Hmm I'm quite enjoying it Grin

Uh oh. It’s all kicking off.

Watch out for Michael’s Mum hunting down the owner of that mobile phone...

evaperonspoodle · 26/02/2019 20:20

Award for the angst ridden parent goes to Kaja! "It completely disabled him!" She looked like she was going to break down. I can see her pulling him out.

Interesting thatcthe questions they’re doing on paper (or tablet) seem a lot easier than the mental maths questions.

BartonHollow · 26/02/2019 21:35

I'm about to watch this but I just saw an article about everyone saying about the poor daughter - she will be on here one day talking about her NMum, Stately Homes and being the scapegoat to his golden child and you still get people with normal dynamics marvelling on here that "they can't understand how there are so many people on MN who go NC"

If you can find it it used to be On Demand on Sky the American one relatively same format is scary, and is less entertainment than it is televised child abuse

purpleme12 · 26/02/2019 22:08

Evaperonspoodle I agree about Connor's parents

I'm actually just watching yesterday's now. Watching Michael's (?) Mum (the one who sat the child genius test) roll her eyes when Richard was talking to her son what was that about?!!

purpleme12 · 26/02/2019 22:09

Oh it's William's mum actually

evaperonspoodle · 27/02/2019 07:59

IT seems tonight is going to be a good one for parental angst, odd facial expressions and general batiness. Dan's father seems a tad over invested.

I'm glad Ross got knocked out, he was just arrogant.

I loved the way Michael's Mum said she took him to Explore Learning Centre and they had never seen a child like him. That's a tuition centre and you don't even have to be a teacher to work there, she said it as if it was the Harvard Centre for Gifted Children. I'm really enjoying the show because of her 😀

Hi everyone I’m Connors proud proud mum, he is gifted, typical 13 year old but gifted .. we haven’t had to push him at all infact he knows more than I do lol x. #teamconnor. I had a phone call this morning from his primary school asking if they could have a old school picture of him and the latest one of him with Richard Osman to put in there school cabinet ... I WAS OVER THE MOON..!

He seems a really 'normal' lad who actually has a life beyond the academia and a supportive but 'normal' family life. Can't say that about too many of the others sadly. I can imagine you saw some interesting things behind the scenes if what we saw on TV was anything to go by. Was it your mobile? Wink
Go Connor!!

Whisky2014 · 27/02/2019 12:51

I watched last night and picked up on another family where the sister was carted along to watch her special bro. The wee plumpy boy with shaved hair and gelled bits? Was quite cocky but cute too. His little sister was just in the sidelines too. Why would parents drag the siblings along like that? Must be so boring for them.

evaperonspoodle · 27/02/2019 13:04

Aww Tottygirl71 that's a lovely picture and it was very evident that you are very proud of Connor. I'm sure Connor will do brilliantly in life Grin

OP posts:
Tottygirl71 · 27/02/2019 13:06

Ha ha no it wasn’t my phone although all my family have been asking me the same question, the siblings did all get involved aswell ,for instance Connor has a older sister (29) and older brother (19) and has 2 nephews (3/5) lol but he found this journey more comforting for him with his cousin Morgan(14) with us ,she was with us all the time but she chose to stand back when it was his moment with the camera which suited Connor however she was his support when he needed her and they went off together and done there own thing when we wasn’t filming ,so yea I definitely am not a pushy mum and his dad is not pushy Connor is VERY well spoken and gifted ... we call him “THE SNOTTY FROM TOTTY” 💙
