Perhaps she will join a monastery? Wink

Connieston · 26/03/2019 10:21

Yes I jumped a bloody mile when he looked into the camera. So original, I don't think anyone has ever done a "double" break of the fourth wall like that before. I also loved how she began to run away from "us" at one point.

StarJumpsandaHalf · 26/03/2019 10:28

I love it, I’m so invested. The kneel/Neil ambiguity was clever too. I was shocked when he stood in front of her in the confessional, it was sinister for a moment and I really didn’t like it. Moments later I was laughing at the dress and trousers comment.

They’re both complex and damaged in their own ways. I so want to know the resolution and for Claire and their father too. The flashback to him with Fleabag sitting on the bed moved me.

The Quakers tweet has made me smile too this morning Smile

nowifi · 26/03/2019 10:46

Did anyone else think he was going to ask for a bj when he said kneel? I really did! Or thought he was going to poke it through a hole in confession booth. Glad he didn't either way as it would have lowered the tone Grin

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 26/03/2019 10:54

Being hard of hearing I have to have the teletext on and last night between rewinding and checking the colours of the text to see who was saying what last night I’d recommend everyone to watch it again.

There a tiny snippets of things he says and does that could be easily missed. Put on teletext even if your ears are perfect!

BertrandRussell · 26/03/2019 10:54

I thought that for an awful moment, @nowifi. I would have thrown my iPad through the window.

AnotherDIYSunday · 26/03/2019 11:16

PaulHollywood, could you please elaborate? I'm abroad and can only watch the series on websites that don't seem to offer subtitles. Intrigued now!

ThanksItHasPockets · 26/03/2019 11:40

I don’t know if this is one of the moments that Paul is alluding to but I also had the subtitles on (watching on low volume next to a fractious sleeping baby) and I would have missed this if I hadn’t (Fleabag’s line in white, the priest’s in green):

Fleabag is coming back! series 2
Connieston · 26/03/2019 11:56

Oooooooohhh what's he done?! What's his secret?

The80sweregreat · 26/03/2019 12:06

Maybe he is aNeil? Did someone see them at the end?

There was a great thread last month about ' thinking about doing weird things' but then not doing it!
I thought I was the only one with intrusive thoughts sometimes ( but don't act on it)

Anyway, this series two is doing my head in a bit. I think the priest isn't who he seems.
Step mums long hair did look odd in the funeral flashback! She is so horrible.

AnotherDIYSunday · 26/03/2019 12:09

ThanksItHas Very interesting, thank you!

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 12:13

Ooh, totally missed that! What's was he going to say?

I saw it as more complex Bertrand. Sure he did seem to take advantage but if posters are right and his name is Neil then maybe he was stepping out, maybe he really loves her and found himself hugely conflicted and was also pretty raw at the end. The more I think about it the more I feel sorry for them both

Totally agree.

The Priest just taking advantage would be too simple a story line. I think Fleabag - or, what she represents to him - has him questioning his faith.

To run off like that, after badgering Fleabag to be vulnerable then leaving her alone once she is, was totally inexcusable. But it'll be more complex that he's simply abusing his position. And the only way he can begin to be excused for that is if he was genuinely questioning his faith.

And, possibly, if he has a secret which puts all this in a better light somehow. Intriguing!

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 12:15

Did anyone notice how much his words, persuading her into the confessional is very much like come-to-bed talk?

It could be plucked out of another scene where it's not a confessional but a bed they're headed for.

mazylou · 26/03/2019 12:21

Agreed, biscuits.

I just find it so bloody bleak - she’s so alone, with so many people around her. Only Boo understood her, and she’s breaking the fourth wall to make the asides to her.

Goatrider · 26/03/2019 12:21

I thought when he said he had a confession, meant he needed to get back to the church to listen to confessions 🤔

Connieston · 26/03/2019 12:21

I've just rewatched part of it (with subtitles) and when she appears in the vestry at night he jumped and swore and says something that sounds like he's having visions or hallucinations of her or something before he realised she was really there. Or he could have just meant he had been thinking about her! He's definitely got something big hidden away Grin

StarJumpsandaHalf · 26/03/2019 12:33

He came to the church later didn’t he? I mean, I know he’s not older, but he said that - it wasn’t always his calling and came as something as a surprise. Am I remembering properly? So perhaps he has something in his past like Fleabag has Boo. She hasn’t told him about that, not yet.

I totally thought he was going to force a BJ, that’s what I alluded to with my comment about feeling disturbed.

Anyone else fed up with how quickly each episode flies by? They seem so short.

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 12:34

I thought when he said he had a confession, meant he needed to get back to the church to listen to confessions

Oh yes, it could mean that couldn't it!

P-WB is fucking with us again! Grin

CountFosco · 26/03/2019 12:45

I actually squealed when he turned and looked into the camera last night. I have a theory that he notices her asides because he also speaks to an invisible presence.

That would be God presumably?

He broke the fourth wall twice I think. Once very clearly in the cafe when he was frustrated with her but also in the vestry when they were standing facing each other then FB looked at us then he looked at us. But I'd need to watch it again.

PooTodd · 26/03/2019 13:14

When did he look at the camera? Which scene was it? I've missed it and researched the ending but still missed it!

PooTodd · 26/03/2019 13:15

*rewatched

PooTodd · 26/03/2019 13:17

Oh ignore me! I just realised CountFosco has helpfully put when it was in her post above! Thanks Grin

RuggyPeg · 26/03/2019 13:38

I don't think he did break the fourth wall. I think he was looking at what she was looking at/where she was looking.

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 13:50

I don't think he did break the fourth wall. I think he was looking at what she was looking at/where she was looking

But how could he see that?

She looks at us inside her head, surely?

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 26/03/2019 13:52

@ThanksItHasPockets good screenshot, that’s exactly the bit I had to rewind - and the other was the bit where the camera zooms out in the vestry (?) and you see him kind I’d smile at the camera.

It takes a while to twig he’s doing it as they are at a wee bit of a distance. That whole exchange in the vestry, his language, everything, smacks of infatuation as opposed to him just fancying her per se.
