And with Andrew Scott,
he is great
as is Olivia Colman

He betrayed her. Fucker. Pushed and pushed for her to let him in emotionally, and then when she did, took advantage.

Where will it go from here? I reckon the Priest will help her heal, but in spite of him, not because of him, if IYSWIM. Fleabag will be righteously angry in the next episode and starts finding what she needs to heal in herself. (Sounds trite when I explain it but will be done with wit and pathos).

Then I reckon the last episode will be the wedding. The whole thing is a disaster, Fleabag brings it down in chaos, helped by the priest. This means the step mother reveals her wickedness to an audience but - happy ending (or rather bitter sweet, which is the happiest it could possibly get) the sisters get their Dad back as the stepmother is out, and Clare's husband gets his comeuppance somehow.

But - knowing how unpredictable I've found the series so far, I expect I'm miles off!

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 00:05

Neil - genius!

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 00:05

Oh she is just so lost and nobody in her family seems to really notice or care

Fuck that struck a chord! Sad

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 26/03/2019 06:14

I am not sure if the wedding will go to plan

Karwomannghia · 26/03/2019 06:28

Thanks red!
I was pushing myself at the Quaker tits too and how she was still propelled up to say it by the spirit!

Karwomannghia · 26/03/2019 06:28

Pissing

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 06:58

So conflicted! Part of me really wanted them to get together as he gets her so much but knew it could never happen in a good way. And this wasn’t good. I’m choosing to think he loves her so much he just couldn’t help himself but it did seem quite abusive getting her all vulnerable then kissing her then abandoning her Sad

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 26/03/2019 07:50

great olivia colman, as usual

shins · 26/03/2019 07:59

I love this series so much. I have to massively suspend my disbelief about Andrew Scott's priest character though, it's so implausible. Not many hot priests around in Ireland these days. There were definitely a few when I was a girl in the 80s like our school chaplain who had long Jesus hair and taught us about liberation theology and played us Jacques Brel while we sat in hormonal awe😜. But now, the rare youngish ones tend to be the Father Dougals I'm afraid..

RedForShort · 26/03/2019 08:02

I have to confess there have been times during meetings that I've occasionally had the mad impulse to stand up and say odd stuff. (You know like chucking your car keys off a cliff type impulse - I can't be the only one (can I?!!!).) Never acted on these impulses mind.

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 09:06

I watched the end again and I'm even more convinced his name is Neil now.

She says "Father" and - after a pause, he says... "Neil.... Neil.... just Neil".

Connieston · 26/03/2019 09:21

A ha! That does sound likely. Stepping out of his priesthood for a moment of madness. She does say at the start of the series that this is a love story. I hope they end up together, they share such a beautiful connection. God I'm overinvesting in this telly programme and imaginary people!

ThanksItHasPockets · 26/03/2019 09:31

Fair play to the Quakers for knowing a PR opportunity when they see one 👍🏻

Fleabag is coming back! series 2
BertrandRussell · 26/03/2019 09:47

I would be so pissed off if they ended up together. Not least because last night he showed himself to be such an utter bastard.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 26/03/2019 09:47

She does say at the start of the series that this is a love story. I hope they end up together, they share such a beautiful connection

Me too @connieston

If it’s a love story about finding out how you can live yourself I’ll want my money back Grin

makingtime · 26/03/2019 10:00

I didn't think it was possible for this series to top the first but OMG. Amazing. And having watched it back I think the PP who said the Priest's name could be Neil is on to something - it makes perfect sense and is just the ambiguity I'd expect from this series. Top marks if you're right!

ThanksItHasPockets · 26/03/2019 10:03

In support of the Neil theory is the line from earlier in the episode when she called him Father and he said ‘fuck you calling me Father like it doesn’t turn you on.’ She called him Father repeatedly in the confession booth.

BertrandRussell · 26/03/2019 10:07

Actually, I will be pissed off if it is Neil not kneel. Very unsatisfactory.

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 10:11

I saw it as more complex Bertrand. Sure he did seem to take advantage but if posters are right and his name is Neil then maybe he was stepping out, maybe he really loves her and found himself hugely conflicted and was also pretty raw at the end. The more I think about it the more I feel sorry for them both

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 10:13

Although surely if his name was Neil she would know that?? Just because we don’t know doesn’t mean she doesn’t. It would be weird if she didn’t know his name. She knelt down so she must have thought he meant kneel

IdblowJonSnow · 26/03/2019 10:13

Biscuits, I like your hypothesis for the end of the series, would be very happy with that outcome.
It is such a powerful drama and intelligent comedy. So well acted. Love how she looks at us the audience all the time to draw us in and make us complicit. The priest is the only guy who's ever picked up on it (and had a turn with his own look at the camera in last night's episide) must be significant?!
Phoebe is a genius for writing this - and Killing Eve which is also brilliant in a very different way.

BertrandRussell · 26/03/2019 10:14

Obviously he is hugely conflicted. But he knows how vulnerable she is, and he knows she’s attracted to him. He’s behaving like an utter shit. I hope his Bishop finds out!

ThanksItHasPockets · 26/03/2019 10:16

I actually squealed when he turned and looked into the camera last night. I have a theory that he notices her asides because he also speaks to an invisible presence.

Sitdownstandup · 26/03/2019 10:17

He would have been taking advantage of her vulnerability and also, as said upthread, ending up with the priest is too Ballykissangel. Actually, I wonder if that's what PWB was doing there, taking the happily ever after with the priest and doing a shit on it? I did think to myself the other day that they might end up having a tortured kiss but doing nothing about it.

I'm also still more invested in Claire's story than Fleabag's.

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 26/03/2019 10:18

i dont think the love story is sexual with the priest though
