And with Andrew Scott,
he is great
as is Olivia Colman

I interpreted the priest noticing when she breaks the fourth wall as him being genuinely interested in and engaged by her as a person, as opposed to a sexual object. We're used to seeing men either objectifying Fleabag (her horrible BIL, the guy who kept going on about her small tits) or not seeing the real her either because they see what they want to see or because she hides her true self from them (like telling her ex-boyfriend she's never masturbated). But Hot Priest really sees her. That, understandably, freaks her out. It's intimacy without sex, which probably isn't something she's experienced with a man before.

I actually hope she doesn't manage to corrupt him. I think if he broke his vow of celibacy he would be devestated and then Fleabag would hate herself for ruining his life.

Sitdownstandup · 20/03/2019 09:47

Glad I'm not the only one!

It might sort of explain why Claire hadn't told her husband, and why she'd been so happy since going to Finland. And the sexual stuff she kept accidentally dropping in wasn't just her wanting to shag him, it's because she has shagged him.

If she's on the lookout and disengaged from her nasty husband, that would also explain why she was clearly flirting with the barrister last week and why, when Fleabag said about him fancying her, she said her hair wasn't great rather than it doesn't matter as I'm married.

I think I might be more invested in Claire's story here than Fleabag's...

I wanted to watch this because of Andrew Scott Grin

so I tried, but found it quite disjointed and chaotic. I realise that's deliberate, but is the whole show done that way? It might not be for me, no matter how much I enjoy Andrew Scott.

BertrandRussell · 20/03/2019 09:52

I’d be so disappointed if she and the priest end up screwing. I think it would be a real mis step-the first one.

diddl · 20/03/2019 09:55

So if Fleabag breaks the 4th wall by talking to the audience, does HP break the 5th wall by noticing?Grin

Sitdownstandup · 20/03/2019 09:58

I'd be disappointed too, just too obvious.

fishonabicycle · 20/03/2019 11:19

Grace - you really need to see the first series to know what is going on.

spiderlight · 20/03/2019 12:00

Every week I think Fleabag could not get any better and every week it does. It is just so brilliantly written and delivered - the 'fourth wall' this week absolutely blew me away.

Tealfrog · 21/03/2019 21:42

I agree - I keep thinking it can't get better and she goes as does it! It is a brilliant expertly written and timed show.

mizu · 21/03/2019 22:02

Yep, it does keep getting better and better.

Thought she couldn't top that 1st episode of the 2nd series but it's all been fabulous. 🐺

SavageBeauty73 · 22/03/2019 09:39

What do you mean fourth wall?

It just gets better and better!

Oblomov19 · 22/03/2019 09:55

Saw a clip. Looks good. Like him. Is s1 worth watching on catch up?

Hollowvictory · 22/03/2019 09:57

Yes watch s1 first or you won't fully enjoy s2

The80sweregreat · 22/03/2019 11:02

Series one is very good.
Shame that there no sign of Huge Dennis in this one yet as he was good in the first episodes. He was kind to her. She lacked anyone being kind in her life back then.
The priest is ok but I can't see it ending well.

The80sweregreat · 22/03/2019 11:02

Hugh! Sorry!
My spelling let's me down

iklboo · 22/03/2019 18:51

The fourth wall is where a fictional character looks at the camera and speaks to the audience.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 22/03/2019 19:29

Oblomov definitely watch the first series. The characters and their relationships are all so beautifully crafted, you have to watch series 1 to understand the fucked up family dynamics and what makes Fleabag tick.

spiderlight · 22/03/2019 19:35

Yes, you must watch S1. It is just unutterably brilliant in its own right and S2 won't make half as much sense without it.

BertrandRussell · 22/03/2019 19:54

The sitting for a portrait scene in series 2 is one of the best bits of telly I’ve ever seen....

The80sweregreat · 22/03/2019 20:02

Her future step parent is horrible, a masterclass in nastiness by Olivia Colman. So well played.
I want to give Fleabag a hug, but then i am a softie.

BertrandRussell · 22/03/2019 20:33

Olivia Coleman is having the time of her life!
Clare makes me want to cry.

The80sweregreat · 22/03/2019 20:49

Clare is just so repressed isnt she? maybe she will come round , ditch her horrible husband and run off with the Finnish bloke.
( she won't of course)

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 22/03/2019 20:56

Yeah I’d say that it would be nigh on impossible to understand/appreciate/enjoy S2 without seeing S1 even though I personally didn’t “enjoy it” per se.

SavageBeauty73 · 22/03/2019 21:06

@iklboo thank you!

CountFosco · 23/03/2019 06:34

She won't fuck the priest, that's too Ballykissangel. If she does I'll be very very disappointed gives PWB a hard stare .
