And with Andrew Scott,
he is great
as is Olivia Colman

I think hp will somehow end up taking on a 'fatherly' role to Jake - perhaps after Martin blows up and faces the consequences. That might be the way he makes peace with not being a priest anymore.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 02/04/2019 16:48

I think FB's father doesn't actually like Godmother much but she's steamrollered him. Hopefully he'll stand up to it in the next episode but it wouldn't be characteristic of course.

I do think the Priest has something to tell her that he failed to get out before they shagged.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 02/04/2019 16:53

Oh, and hair. My hair is a nightmare. I cannot TELL you how much better as a person I feel on the rare day that it looks good. Like a superhuman. I pay a small fortune to a hairdresser and for products and am gradually getting to a sort of 70:30 ratio of bad:good hair days, from 95:5. It's transformative.

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 17:08

I'm with you on that one. My hair is currently sticking out like a triangle and i'd pay good money to make it stop!

The thing is, there are very few things he could have done that would be a red flag for fb. Murder, child or adult sexual abuse or rape, domestic violence. That's probably about it. So if he's done something wrong, it would have to be something really wrong to be a game changer at this stage.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 02/04/2019 17:14

I think the "love story" comment was referring to her relationship with Claire. Thinking back to the start of the first series they were so tense and awkward around one another but they've gradually grown closer and seem to have accepted that it's ok to need each other and to be vulnerable around one another. I thought it was really touching that Fleabag was the person Claire called when she had her hair disaster and that Fleabag felt she could confide in her about HP.

RosaWaiting · 02/04/2019 17:37

does anyone else think that wasn't Scotty in the final scene - I mean it's a stand in or body double or whatever.

amazing episode.

I've only just seen it, for some reason my MN display showed me a pp saying "I look like a pencil" before I'd seen it - I was so confused Grin

IntentsandPorpoises · 02/04/2019 17:46

No I think it was him. He's said in interviews they had amazinf chemistry

IntentsandPorpoises · 02/04/2019 17:47

Why do you think it isn't him?

RosaWaiting · 02/04/2019 17:50

I just thought it might not be, because the person looks a bit broader.

Also, given how busy everyone is, I just thought maybe for that scene, if they could use a stand-in, they might.

I'm probably over thinking it because he seemed so tiny when I met him!

it's nice to be able to say "I've had Scotty's arm around me".

though apparently PWB gets to say "I've had Scotty on top of me".

okay, I'm going to lie down with a cold flannel on my head.

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 18:06

He looks short but broad to me but then again i haven't met him and at 5 ft 2 with nonexistent shoulders everyone looks both tall and broad to me!

MissFitton · 02/04/2019 18:13

"I am quite surprised you're allowed to keep rodents next to a food prep area, however well cared for and clean they're kept

Think that was touched on in series one. But really I think you're allowed to do whatever you want in a fictional hipster cafe."

Grin Grin Grin

I have nothing else to add to this thread but I keep coming back to is as it's only Tuesday and the last one isn't on until next week.

Connieston · 02/04/2019 18:25

Having scrutinised the credits there isn't owt on the cast list that would appear to be a body double. Grin

Isn't the music amazing btw? Apparently even the choral stuff was commissioned specially, by FBW's sister. The entire score is absolutely perfect. I loved the confused Jazz in Season 1.

RosaWaiting · 02/04/2019 18:26

okay I've cooled down now, lol.

some hilarious comments on this thread, like the one about doing what you want in a fictional hipster cafe - brilliant!

I agree with pp saying the actor playing Martin was terrific, but I'm afraid I didn't feel sorry for him at all, I hate him soooo much.

Loved the line "my priest is here and he really needs some guidance"! I would have wept with laughter if I wasn't willing Lawyer to clear orf!!

Soverytiredofeverythinggoingon · 02/04/2019 18:28

Just watched it for the third time :)

RosaWaiting · 02/04/2019 18:28

Connieston ah, very organised.

Maybe FB and HP will go off travelling or something and Previous Bank Manager Chappie will run the cafe in the interim.

maybe FB, Clare and Dad will all go travelling and PBMC will run the cafe!

LadyKylieShagworthy · 02/04/2019 18:42

My favourite line :
FB "Do you want a drink, water?"
HP "no thanks, I want a clear head" Grin

Figgygal · 02/04/2019 19:02

I've no idea how it'll end next week but I wish it wasn't

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 02/04/2019 19:07

Please tell me the last episode is an hour long or even feature length special...there's no way they can wrap up all these characters stories in 25 minutes!

merrymouse · 02/04/2019 19:11

Loved every part of the episode. Couldn't are less about the ethics of him being a priest anymore.

"My priest is here and he really needs some guidance"
"What? Is he OK?"
"No, I'm hoping he's having an emotional crisis".

BertrandRussell · 02/04/2019 19:13

“Loved every part of the episode. Couldn't are less about the ethics of him being a priest anymore”

So what’s the point of the programme then?

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 02/04/2019 19:15

Hot Mysogynist's face was hilarious when she was saying that!

practicalmagick · 02/04/2019 19:26

"So what’s the point of the programme then?"

Dramatic thrills, human interaction, jokes, the psychology of complex characters? Entertainment? It's not a documentary about the ethics of priesthood, it's a story about some specific people, their problems and the decisions they make.

I loved the episode and haven't been able to stop thinking about it all day

CountFosco · 02/04/2019 19:27

And then he looked so chuffed when she said he was the best sex he'd ever had and he'd given her 9 orgasms.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 02/04/2019 19:30

So what’s the point of the programme then?

Hope for the hopeless?
Feel-good ending for a flawed heroine?
Bright burst of optimism for someone who was lost and grieving?
Closure/tie up of plot points?

It was a dramedy. It has been a more conventional Will they? Won't they? unrequited love story/romcom this time around but darker.
Will FB get a happy ending or will it be more realistic or be left with a huge question mark? Or will it be love for Clare/or her and Clare?
I am merely rooting for her to find contentment/peace without losing her spark. She doesn't need Hot Priest for that but the RuPaul mantra of 'if you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an amen?'' is just as cliche as walking off into the sunset.

merrymouse · 02/04/2019 19:38

"So what’s the point of the programme then?"

For me the point of the programme was that I enjoyed it - does a TV show need to do more?

Apart from that, the script was brilliant - loved the timing of Clair saying that FB needed to find a way to cancel the wedding and they walk in and apparently FB has found a way to cancel the wedding...

If you want to go deeper, the show also explores the nature of free will, death and happiness, but I don't think it's trying to teach people how to behave. Again, I've only seen 2 PWB TV shows, but I don't think any of her protagonists are on a journey towards being more sensible.

I'm really happy for another show to explore the negative aspects of priests having sex and for everything to end badly. But I would rather it wasn't this show.
