I reckon Fleabag and priest get married.

makingtime · 02/04/2019 13:13

So many questions:

  • what was he going to confess?
  • how does the bank manager fit in (feel sure we haven't seen the last of him)
  • will Hilary and Stephanie survive?
  • will the hot misogynist reappear?
  • will Clare leave Martin?
And so many more! A lot to cover in 25 mins next week
PresidentHump · 02/04/2019 13:21

He said 'ive got a confession' as she said she had to go to work. He pointed and gestured his intention to leave. A. I don't think it's that important. B. I think he's now been quite honest. I don't think he's suddenly going to confess anything awful.

IntentsandPorpoises · 02/04/2019 13:24

Though her speech about how hair is everything didn’t really resonate with me

So sayeth someone with fairly easy hair I imagine. Despite being not much of faahion/looks/make up person my hair has always had to be a massive part of my life. It's ridiculously thick, frizzy, massive, doesn't curl but not straight.

I now spend a ridiculous amount of money to make it look normal. And I would give a lot of stuff before I'd give up the hair treatment.

  • will the wedding go ahead or willl Dad finally see godmother is awful?!
EBearhug · 02/04/2019 13:33

I'm mildly confused about timelines. With Martin, she said she hadn't seen him for a year, and I'd been thinking it was a few months at most. Their mother died 3 or 4 years ago, the godmother started moving in on their father at the funeral. Boo was at the funeral, so she must have died about 2 years ago. I can't tell whether FB has known the priest a month or a year.

It may not matter in any case, but the reason I was thinking about it was guinea pigs live about 4-8 years on average, and FB and Boo had the café before FB's mother died, so Hillary could be becoming elderly in GP terms. (Also, I am quite surprised you're allowed to keep rodents next to a food prep area, however well cared for and clean they're kept.)

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 02/04/2019 13:42

I agree with Trump outside the Quaker house he was gesturing that he had to go and do a confessional at the same time she was saying she had go an open the cafe. I got the impression it was part of his work.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/04/2019 13:42

willl Dad finally see godmother is awful?!

I think he already can. But he's too weak and indecisive to do anything about it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/04/2019 13:43

Remember he's already witnessed her slapping FB but chose to ignore it.

ThanksItHasPockets · 02/04/2019 13:51

Their mother died three years before series 1, and Boo seems to have died shortly before series 1.

Series 2 began with an exact measure of the time since the sexhibition which ended series 1, 371 days etc. So a year has passed between the two series. Fleabag met the priest at the engagement dinner and has seemingly known him for about a month.

humblesims · 02/04/2019 13:59

I think Pockets has it right. I think when FB says to Martin its been a year she means a year until recently (wedding plans) not a year until that day in the cafe iyswim.

Connieston · 02/04/2019 14:03

I recommend rewatching the first series. There's lots about Fleabag's mum in there (how much like Fleabag she was). Explains a lot about the dynamic between Godmother and FB and her dad.

I can't believe we are reduced to calculating how old the guinea pig is just to try to predict what'll happen next week Grin

Hugh Dennis's character had quite a big role in the first series - he was on the male rage retreat and then at the end gives her a second chance with the cafe. I'd forgotten most of that!

BertrandRussell · 02/04/2019 14:38

“I agree with Trump outside the Quaker house he was gesturing that he had to go and do a confessional at the same time she was saying she had go an open the cafe. I got the impression it was part of his work.”
Priests don’t “make” confessions-well, they do, but only their own. They “take” other people’s.

PresidentHump · 02/04/2019 14:49

'ive got to make a confession actually while pointing into distance' - 'ive got to make an appointment'. Totally normal thing to say!

RedForShort · 02/04/2019 14:57

Did he say he had to make a confession or that he had a confession?

PresidentHump · 02/04/2019 15:01

It's actually GOT!
As in 'ive got an appointment'! Grin

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 02/04/2019 15:12

He's got to go. That's al it was. He wasn't about to confess to her I mean.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 02/04/2019 15:22

I keep thinking about episode 1

“This is a love story” and am totally praying then shagging hasn’t broken the spell.

I found it quite moving when he said about falling in love with her; and I know on balance of probability it’s about her finding the ability to “love herself” but it would probably be quite leftfield of PWB to write a happy ending IYSWIM.

BTW I found the way Finnish Klare was enraptured by Claire’s Barnet super endearing and to see her almost skipping off with him was lovely too.

YES I AM A SOFTY.

RedForShort · 02/04/2019 15:22

Got a confession could easily be he has to take a confession

I'd guess FB questioned if he was really a priest purely because of his age and attractiveness, not because she actually doubts it.

Tootrousers · 02/04/2019 15:27

And his sweariness possibly!

Sisterself · 02/04/2019 16:02

Not sure why people are still questioning the 'confession' comment. It was quite clear he was feeling extremely awkward about talking and thinking about fleabag tits and was trying to extract himself from the situation by saying he had work to go and do i.e. take confession. Well, that's my take on it anyway!

Tootrousers · 02/04/2019 16:03

Mine too Sister

CountFosco · 02/04/2019 16:11

I am quite surprised you're allowed to keep rodents next to a food prep area, however well cared for and clean they're kept

Think that was touched on in series one. But really I think you're allowed to do whatever you want in a fictional hipster cafe.

But most of all, thanks to this thread I'm more concerned about Hillary than anyone else in the show!

Also love Claire and Klare. Was thinking about Clare's 'we're not friends, we're sisters' in the one with KST and what she meant by that because it could be interpreted several ways. Are sisters more or less than friends? But also there's that ambiguity again.

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 16:28

Yes it was probably "I've got to make (it to) a confession"

But then he went and sat in her cafe petting her guinea pig for however long.

Sisterself · 02/04/2019 16:33

That's because he didn't really have confession, he was just using it as an excuse to get away. But then the lure of seeing fleabag's cafe was too appealing so he went with that instead!
