Just watched it again. Found the last scene much hotter second time around. -Something about the coconut oil/trenchcoat/undies combination. Wish i didn't have so much stuff to do today Blush

ThanksItHasPockets · 02/04/2019 10:08

Earlier in the series, the priest said they wouldn’t have sex because although it was what she thought she wanted from him, it wouldn’t do any good.

Maybe PWB is giving us what we think we want before it all goes tits-up next week.

Janus · 02/04/2019 10:09

Omg I go on holiday Sunday, I can’t wait 2 weeks to watch the last episode 😱😱!
Pretty sure iPlayer doesn’t work abroad?? I have the sky go app, does that let me watch my recordings??
Ah this is awful!! I’m so invested in this, I need to know what happens to FB!!

Dontloseyourhead · 02/04/2019 10:21

I also found the hair thing funny and patronising but I agree that the hairdresser’s response was meaningful and worth it for that - see also weight, and women struggling with that when it’s a sign of bigger and more important things being wrong.

I agree, I’m waiting for next week as it seems they’ve both given into their temptations to me, that feels good, and then it can feel really bad.

Connieston · 02/04/2019 10:35

I think the line that made Episode 5 was "cashmere cashmere cashmere" when we were expecting her to get punched.

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 10:39

FB's biggest addiction is sex with randoms to boost self esteem. If that's all she wanted she could have sent the hp away and had another 9 orgasms with the lawyer. Instead she chose what could have turned out to be mediocre sex with someone she loved. I see that as a sign she's actually moving on as a character rather than giving in to temptation.

Not so sure about the hp's arc. Maybe his being a priest is more about power than he's letting on and 'giving in' to a woman he loves is actually a sign of a growing ability to have an equal relationship rather than the father/child one he thinks he wants?

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 10:40

That last bit sounds a bit wrong now i've written it down. I meant Father as in priest and 'child' as in his congregation.

redpickle · 02/04/2019 11:03

I sometimes wonder...if I'm a bad feminist for actually wanting FB to live happily ever after with HP

MissFitton · 02/04/2019 11:03

So funny when Claire was on the phone and said "no don't bring Hillary! Who's Stephanie?.." Agreed - and that's part of the beauty of this show. Also "cashmere, cashmere, cashmere" Grin

Wrt happy ending or not? If HP really thinks that having sex will make him fall in love with her and that this will lead to his life being fucked then it surely can't end well? Surely his vocation is more important to him?

I love the relationship between the sisters, I thought the "you're my hero" was quite heartfelt from Clare.

Dontloseyourhead · 02/04/2019 11:14

Also loved the cashmere line!

Connieston · 02/04/2019 11:14

I think Episode 4 is so hard to beat. Episode 5 felt very different, Claire suddenly being nice to FB was a bit odd tbh, "what's going on with you?" ...she was like a different person! And that godmother tantrum felt like it should have been so much bigger. I'm preparing myself for the last episode to be a teeny bit of a let down - mostly because there's so much expectation on it!

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 11:30

Connieston- i saw Clare's change in attitude being a sign of her changing circumstances - she's freeing herself up from her marriage and her stuffy way of being and maybe getting back to the kind of relationship they had when younger.

I doubt it was ever perfect, but perhaps there were more lighthearted moments 'before the world crushed her spirit' to quote Homer Simpson.

No-one could really live their whole lives in that kind of depressing competitive intensity - like the British Paris Geller or something. Something has to give.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 02/04/2019 11:30

I think either Hilary or Stephanie is doomed and it's all a big metaphor.

I loved the hair storyline and read it entirely as a sign of how the sisters' relationship has developed trust and liking.

The sex stuff was sexy but I didn't see it as a happy ending. I would so much have liked to see them end up friends - maybe they still can - but I enjoyed it as a storyline if that makes sense? I want to know what happens next rather than thinking of it as a resolution.

The last episode must be the wedding, when Clare and Klare, poor Jake, and Fleabag and the Priest will all hit the fan, bringing Godmother down with them hopefully.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/04/2019 11:31

The actor playing Martin deserves a shoutout too. The character is vile but when he says "don't let her leave me" his mask slips and you see for a moment the pathetic man behind the bluster. It only lasts a few seconds but in those few seconds you feel almost sorry for him.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 02/04/2019 11:37

Martin "lucky lawyer!" was funny. He knew he'd lost the rage battle with that line.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 02/04/2019 11:43

I'm worried for Hillary too.

I don't think having sex is the end. It was inevitable because they both wanted it but ultimately it is friendship they are looking for. That would be the happy ending for me. He helps her to see that she doesn't need to have sex meaningless to be fulfilled and she helps him to realise that he doesn't need to be a father to everyone.

Sitdownstandup · 02/04/2019 11:51

Oh the Martin actor is brilliant, plays it to perfection.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 02/04/2019 12:01

I don't know what she's helping him with. Something to do with his recovery. Oh god I love Fleabag.

Fazackerley · 02/04/2019 12:02

I don't believe he's a priest.

Wetdogloveshubert · 02/04/2019 12:16

The Telegraph has a piece about the latest episode / Fleabag's 'arc' today which was interesting. www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/0/fleabag-psychoanalysed-do-confessions-camera-mean/ This tidbit at the end:

"Someone other than us was, at last, really hearing and seeing her, and her detachment was transformed into something deeper. Loss was giving way to connection in her life, and maybe there was nothing left to confess."

Makes me worry that they're going to have to have an upset in the final episode for us to be able to 'see' what happens next. Argh!

Tootrousers · 02/04/2019 12:26

I don’t understand why some people think he’s not a priest. He’s been conducting services in church, lives in the “vicarage” (don’t know the word in catholic terms), is called father by his parishioners, is about to conduct a wedding. Can anyone say why they don’t think he’s a priest??

makingtime · 02/04/2019 12:33

I think because Fleabag said "are you a real priest?" in the first episode and his answer didn't appear that convincing?

Also on a separate note (or not?!) as a PP said - the bit where he said "I have a confession to make actually" before he got cut off outside the Quaker meeting is also, uncomfortably, as yet not dealt with. Although I wouldn't necessarily put these two things together

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 12:34

I have a sense of forboding about Clare. How easy is it really to leave a man like Martin, even if you have money and no kids of your own? I'm worried she'll make the mistake of going home. Sad

Dontloseyourhead · 02/04/2019 12:39

Someone whose been as conventional as Clare for so long will find divorce hard to take - I agree Martin is an excellent actor

PettyLaBelle · 02/04/2019 12:57

‘Bye Clare’

‘Bye Klare’

‘..............Bye Clare’

GrinGrin but also Sad at only one more.
