I must have watched that final scene about 578 times.. I feel like a total pervert, but wow!

KittyWindbag · 02/04/2019 03:37

I’m going to feel genuinely bereft when Fleabag is finished. What a cracker it is. Showing all those boring, drawn-out, multi-season shows how it’s done. PWB can say more in a glance to camera than some writers actors manage to say in a whole episode.

Loved Hugh Dennis turning up with ‘Stephanie’. The speech about hair I’m going to have to get my mum to watch because nothing will resonate more with her.

I hope it doesn’t all go terribly wrong but I suspect it might. They deserve it to be all right.

KittyWindbag · 02/04/2019 03:37

Signing off all messages now with

Bye Clare.

Dontloseyourhead · 02/04/2019 06:35

We didn’t find anything out about him though - he started to say something about his childhood, and he doesn’t know what happened with Boo - I did love the episode (we are so programmed to think a good relationship can cure all ills) but I suspect more twists to come.

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 06:41

I also think he may have experienced abuse. Maybe he went into the church partly so he could help to redress the balance and be "one of the good ones". He said in the tipsy church garden scene (episode 3?) that he slept with a lot of people before he became a priest, so maybe he used to have the same coping mechanism as fb? Maybe he sees a lot of his past self in her?

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 06:46

Don't worry shiver, i had to rewatch it too as I wasn't sure whether she was looking 'intense' because of irritation or pleasure. Definitely the latter but now i also feel like a perve Blush

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 02/04/2019 06:48

I love it how she told her sister

EmmaGrundyForPM · 02/04/2019 06:52

Brilliant episode.

We're going on holiday next Monday so I've got to wait 3 weeks for the next episode. Sad

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 02/04/2019 06:56

it was in iplayer yesterday morning, so you might be able to fit it in before you go on holiday?

Dontloseyourhead · 02/04/2019 06:59

Dh didn’t like the episode because whatever you think of the Catholic Church, he made an important promise that he betrayed. As it is he’s a man that’s swept away his stability.

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 02/04/2019 07:06

Priest must have some dark secret too, and his saviour is with God. I am sure it has been said before.

ghostpop · 02/04/2019 07:10

I don't really get all the handwringing about him being good/bad, their chemistry is incredible and it's amazing to watch, I do believe he is falling in love with her and she with him, I think the "kneel" bit was a complete red herring.

I loved it when she said "women can't be priests" and he went FUCK OFF I KNOW! I laughed a lot in this episode.

GarthFunkel · 02/04/2019 07:10

I do hope that was a really good wig Clare had. Otherwise she needs to get a job in advertising.

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 07:15

It's funny how her hair looked rubbish to me right up until the moment Klare appreciated it. Then suddenly I saw how well it went with her gorgeous top. Suggestible, much?!

Wetdogloveshubert · 02/04/2019 07:16

Ooh I didn't know it was online early, that also means I'll be able to watch before my holiday - phew.

There's a lot of unresolved issues to be sorted from last night. Like, wedding? The painting? Telling the truth of their pasts to one another. Clare and Martin/Jake.

So many stories in these short episodes, and yet they feel so full.

RuffleCrow · 02/04/2019 07:19

don'tlose - then again the thing (and part of the problem) about Catholicism is there's no mistake that can't be atoned for, so in theory it's never too late for him to repent and go back to celibacy if that's his ultimate choice.

mizu · 02/04/2019 07:31

Watched late last night after a very long day and off to work now so just a few StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar just perfect.

NopeNi · 02/04/2019 07:41

I was a bit disappointed too BertrandRussell. Ah well, it's only a tv show!

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 02/04/2019 07:46

Yes ruffle about Claire's hair and the suggestibility and the HP and atonement! Acceptance and forgiveness. I think Stephanie is part of HD's atonement.

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 02/04/2019 07:52

how lovely to bring her a hamster guineapig

ScrumpyBetty · 02/04/2019 07:53

Clare's hair Shock Shock

That was brilliant. Evil stepmum showed her true colours.

Did anyone else notice that there were no Boo flashbacks in this episode?

I so hope it all concludes nicely in the final episode.

BertrandRussell · 02/04/2019 08:04

“I was a bit disappointed too BertrandRussell. Ah well, it's only a tv show!”
What???? You’ll be telling me the Archers isn’t a documentary next...

Freaking0ut · 02/04/2019 08:17

The bus stop scene... my god I could feel the tension as if it were me sitting on that bench.

I just found out that there’s no series 3... 😭

BeautifulName · 02/04/2019 08:28

I found I wasn’t so invested in FB and HP this episode (5) as the last one. I think it was just not so interesting to have the star crossed lovers thing as to have the character exploration of the ep 4.
The Clare/klare was amazing and I loved the scene with Martin in the cafe. Fuck youuuuu!

Bye Clare.

KneelJustKneel · 02/04/2019 08:32

Evil step Mum was ace. I have a stepmum to be who is so similar... I like to imagine she is similar behind closed doors.
