Just rewatched the whole of Series 1, and what I can't work out is - how does Clare know that Boo killed herself because Fleabag slept with her boyfriend? Surely Fleabag hasn't admitted it to anyone (if it was common knowledge, you'd bet Godmother would have dropped it into conversation at some point).

I am also thinking Hot Priest is some sort of alcoholic who's covering things up, and have absolutely no idea how everything is going to be resolved (if it is) in the next 2 episodes. I may be overinvested in this.

iwantatattoo · 31/03/2019 14:00

Yes Hot Priest is absolutely a functioning alcoholic.

ThanksItHasPockets · 31/03/2019 14:06

how does Clare know that Boo killed herself because Fleabag slept with her boyfriend?

I have wondered this too - because I am fairly sure that although Boo’s boyfriend admitted that he had slept with someone else, Boo didn’t know that Fleabag was the OW. Boo didn’t intend to kill herself, just to be hit by a cyclist and be injured enough to be hospitalised, forcing her boyfriend to visit her. Her death (and the others it caused) was an accident.

Fleabag must have told Claire but given that they aren’t close this doesn’t quite ring true.

Tootrousers · 31/03/2019 14:34

No idea on that point. Boo didn’t know it was fb so she can’t have told Clare. That part is a mystery

Tootrousers · 31/03/2019 14:35

Can only assume that fleabag told Clare in the emotion of it all

iwantatattoo · 31/03/2019 14:36

Have we seen Boo's funeral?
Perhaps the boyfriend turned up and Clare saw or heard something between him and Fleabag which made it clear.

In series 2, ep1 at the end HP says something like "I'll always be here you if you need me". I think it's a piglet thing. Their relationship is about friendship... I hope.

RuffleCrow · 31/03/2019 18:39

Yes the fact he's a big Winnie the Pooh fan gives me hope. Then again my abusive ex also loves those books and being my friend never even crossed his mind. Hmm

From Andrew Scott interview in The Times:

(Might be a spoiler for those especially sensitive to spoilers?)

“Sex is complicated. Fleabag is about chemistry, and Phoebe and I have tremendous chemistry between us. I signed on to the series without having seen a script. Then Phoebe and I had this extraordinary three-hour meeting and we spoke about love and sex and how they are presented in life. I knew that the show was going to be about a connection between two people and what they could teach each other. At the beginning of Fleabag, Phoebe says, “This is a love story.” It is a love story but, as is so often the case in TV, the kind of love we’re usually shown is a love that we’ve seen before. I like that Fleabag explores this and, further on in the series, what that might become”

IamPickleRick · 31/03/2019 19:22

Ok on reading that, I think he’s going to be her replacement Boo. They’ll get past the physical stuff and be best friends, she’ll become more together and sort out her shitty brother in law, the wicked step mother gets ousted and Clare gets either Klare. That’s my prediction right here!

ILikTheBred · 31/03/2019 21:47

He also makes some interesting comments about the church in another interview:

“Are there faults of the Catholic church that are highlighted by it? Yes. But there are also amazing things about the Catholic church that are brought up later on in the series.”

Very intrigued as to where this is going!

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 31/03/2019 22:02

Yes that interview is quite revealing. Forgiveness..... FB needs to forgive to move on and be forgiven... oh I am obsessed! Can't wait for ep5 tomorrow.

iklboo · 31/03/2019 22:11

I love Andrew Scott. Not in that way - doesn't float my boat, but very few actors can play flawed as well as he can.

Pengrin · 31/03/2019 22:22

Yeah I think she’ll ditch us for him as she only started needing us when she had nowhere to put all of the love that she redirected from her mum to Boo.

So it’ll end with them being best friends. He’ll show her how to love and be loved without the physical side and she’ll be there for him as he’s as lonely as she is. Then she’ll stop speaking to us and it’ll end.

KittyWindbag · 01/04/2019 06:04

God I love this programme. Isn’t she talented and clever. I have that rare thing where I envy someone their career because she’s just so smart and funny.

RuffleCrow · 01/04/2019 06:40

I'm actually just happy for her as she's clearly someone who has dealt with her demons and learned to channel her pain into art. If more people could learn to do that, the world would be a more peaceful place.

Happy monday,
can't wait to see what is in store later

Goatrider · 01/04/2019 09:04

I've been watching on iPlayer but not sure what day Confused. Does it appear before or after tonight's episode?

howmanyleftfeet · 01/04/2019 09:14

Last week it appeared before. I noticed it was there about 8pm I think.

Connieston · 01/04/2019 09:15

I definitely saw the last episode on Monday before it aired on TV (check my post history if you don't believe me) so I'll be lurking on iPlayer from now on!!!

howmanyleftfeet · 01/04/2019 09:16

I started watching Killing Eve (also written by PWB) and it's really good.

Connieston · 01/04/2019 09:16

EPISODE 5 NOW ON IPLAYER!!!

howmanyleftfeet · 01/04/2019 09:18

Connieston ha! You beat me to it! I was just about to say that :)

I won't be able to watch it till a bit later though, damn! (Will be avoiding this thread till then in case of spoilers!!)

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 01/04/2019 09:20

last monday i watched it at lunchtime!
is it there now?

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 01/04/2019 09:36

Yes Hot Priest is absolutely a functioning alcoholic.

I watched the episode for a second time last night. The first time around I was quite angry with HP, like a lot of posters I felt he was taking advantage of FB at her most vulnerable. But on watching a second time I actually felt very sorry for him. He's just as vulnerable as she is I think. He's clearly an alcoholic, he uses drink as an escape the way Fleabag uses sex as an escape. Maybe that's why they're drawn to one another. We know he has a difficult relationship with his parents and his brother is a convicted paedophile. He's obviously a very damaged individual.

After the picture falls off the wall and they break apart, there's this moment after he first walks away from FB where he looks back at her and he looks angry, which annoyed me on the first watch as I was all indignant on FB's behalf thinking "don't blame her, mate, no one had a gun to your head!" On reflection though I can see why he would be angry. I wonder if he feels a bit used? He's been trying to get to know FB as a person, to be her friend, and she's been fetishising him basically. He's not stupid, he knows she wouldn't want him so much if he wasn't a Priest ("fuck you calling me Father like it doesn't turn you on just to say it") and I can see how that could feel pretty shit. She's fantasising about corrupting him because it's a distraction from her problems and the whole "forbidden fruit" thing is exciting but she doesn't seem to have considered that getting what she wants would mean HP risking losing everything that matters to him. Of course if he breaks his vow of celibacy, that's on him and not her, but I do think it would fuck up his life irreparably and I really hope it doesn't happen.
