I agree in real life, but it would be boring to watch.

I didn’t say it shouldn’t happen in the story, just that I don’t think you’re supposed to be expecting a happy ending out of it.

RuffleCrow · 28/03/2019 20:09

I think there will be a happy ending for her. Not delirious love but the kind of self acceptance that tends to come with hitting your mid thirties. Not sure if HP will have an ongoing place in it.

Tigresswoods · 28/03/2019 20:10

Too many posts! I've tried to read them all but there's just too much.

So my theory on Boo is that she loved FB. Like REALLY romantically loved her. It was unrequited love & so she killed herself.

FB is now racked with guilt about it & has no one to talk to.

IslaMann · 28/03/2019 21:22

Hang on, wait.. Is Andrew Scott gay?

Loving this series, nearly coughed up a lung laughing at "I wonder if I'd be such a feminist if I had bigger tits".

RuffleCrow · 28/03/2019 21:40

Tigress that's an interesting twist on the lesbian theory. It would make more sense than her jumping in the road over a man she hardly knew. Mind you, her mental health was probably quite fragile, either way. I feel a bit cheated that we're never going to get a chance to 'know' her as she seems lovely.

Laquila · 28/03/2019 21:40

I’ve never found Andrew Scott attractive but also found that scene in the last episode insanely erotic!

RuffleCrow · 28/03/2019 21:50

PWB should really turn her hand to writing porn for women next Wink.

Goatrider · 28/03/2019 21:51

In the first series they showed Boo saying she was going to walk into the cycle lane to end up in hospital because of what her boyfriend had done.

KneelJustKneel · 28/03/2019 21:57

Oh a webchat would be awesome.
Pleeeeaseeeee mnhq

CountFosco · 28/03/2019 22:26

nearly coughed up a lung laughing at "I wonder if I'd be such a feminist if I had bigger tits".

As an owner of big tits I can tell you it makes you more of a feminist having men not look at your face, not less.

birdsandroses · 28/03/2019 23:12

In the scene when Fleabag and her dad are chatting whilst sitting on the bed on the day of the mum’s funeral and her dad says he was jealous of the mum that day, is he saying here he was jealous because she was obviously a fun and interesting woman admired by all the funeral goers? So it was a compliment really and why Fleabag said that is a lovely thing to say?

Sunonthepatio · 28/03/2019 23:42

Such a great show. Can I join?

IamPickleRick · 29/03/2019 00:26

Only just found this thread! I love FB! Rewatched the first series again tonight and I really missed episodes like on the train where everyone in the carriage is laughing in time to the music. We’ve not had moments like that in S2.

Another one who thinks the priest isn’t a good man. I found the look on his face quite upsetting when he pulled that curtain back. I don’t even think he’s a priest. Clues include : her asking him if he’s real. His obsession with costumes. He wasn’t even a priest when he bought the purple get up. Neil, just Neil - ie don’t call me Father, there’s no need, this is me. Which also ties in to “fuck you calling me Father”

He’s not a Father that’s why. He’s got some deep seated issue but they’ll resolve it together and run off in a Mrs Robinson style climax at the wedding. I’m calling it now.

RhymingRabbit · 29/03/2019 00:27

Sooooo... I find it a bit sad that people are guessing a relationship between boo and FB that was sexual/romantic rather than a platonic, love. Two women can love each other whole heartedly but platonically.... Surely?

howmanyleftfeet · 29/03/2019 01:14

Sunonthepatio, of course, pull up a pew Gin

RuffleCrow · 29/03/2019 06:13

Rhyming - i'm not sure why that theory makes you sad? Surely women can and do love each other both ways depending on who they are and their sexuality? I think she feels both for the HP and he seems to be prompting a lot of Boo flashbacks. Just saying.

shins · 29/03/2019 06:25

I don't think he's a priest either! And not just because he's the least convincing priest ever. He's like someone dressing up for Halloween.

BertrandRussell · 29/03/2019 06:35

“I don't think he's a priest either!”

Surely him having a parish and living in the priest’s house and saying Mass and all is a bit of a giveaway?

RuffleCrow · 29/03/2019 06:39

Maybe he's been hired by Godmother for an extended piece of performance art, specifically to fuck with FBs head?

RuffleCrow · 29/03/2019 06:44

Lots of churches aren't actually churches anymore and it's not like Fb would necessarily be aware as she's not religious

NopeNi · 29/03/2019 06:58

There's a congregation and active church life; he's Claire's priest. I think that's just looking for an implausible Sherlock-type twist!

The question is did he do it for the right reasons, is he a sincere "real" priest? Did he do it as a retreat from the world and his own issues, enjoying the costumes and the show of it - rather than a way of ministering to others and loving them? He neatly sidestepped the vocation question at the dinner.

I'm actually with Rhyming on it being saddening to twist any form of deep friendship into eroticism. I used to enjoy it when fan fiction did that, but as I get older it feels more and more reductive.

IamPickleRick · 29/03/2019 06:59

BertrandRussell, in real life, but in fiction land perhaps not.

I just expect him to say something like, nah, not real. Just fancied it one day and here we are! Probably after he’s shagged her, maybe he’s in it for the vulnerable women Hmm

NopeNi · 29/03/2019 07:02

(That last bit sounds a bit like a snobby put-down on re-reading, but I didn't mean it like that! I just meant it really does feel "off" to keep saying "any close friends really just want to have sex with each other". A bit like the Sherlock-John thing. It's that thing where men can't be close without having to reassert their non-gayness IYSWIM.)

wirelessprinter · 29/03/2019 08:46

Just watched it all again. Definitely in the ‘hot last scene’ camp! Fantastic build up of sexual tension and amazing chemistry between the two. The way the priest looked at fleabag a second too long after his ‘in it for the costumes’ gag. His voice when telling her to kneel - conveying so much in that one word. His expression when he pulled back the curtain (did anyone notice him pulling the curtain back in the same dramatic fashion in the opening scene when trying on his robes? Sorry if I missed this up thread). Can’t wait to see where this goes.

Would fleabag like hot priest so much if he wasn’t a priest?
