And with Andrew Scott,
he is great
as is Olivia Colman

I don't think anyone's saying that all close friends want to have sex with each other.

Fb sexualises pretty much everything; she's been very open about sleeping with women but hasn't said who; she's dependant on Boo at a very vulnerable point and grief does strange things to people and has agreed to give her "all her love". I don't subscribe to the idea that sex is always a corruptive force anyhow. It can be redemptive, healing, comforting, spiritual etc. To view it is corrupting is quite a religious POV. This thread is full of random speculation and none are definitive theories.

iwantatattoo · 29/03/2019 09:13

I loved the scene where FB and Boo were sat smoking and drinking wine together in the cafe.
I think that FB and Boo were as close as soul mates - although not romantically - which is why FB feels such guilt at betraying her and why Boo was so distressed.

itsquidstella

yes, starting from when he said "Fuck you calling me Father like it doesn't turn you on".

I always thought the mother died when they were adults - didn't FB say that her father's response was to send them to feminist lectures and eventually stop calling?

agree that sex doesn't have to be corrupting. would have been quite nice if they could have had sex IMHO.

I wonder if Pam stands behind walls, banging so that pictures fall down? Grin

I very rarely love anything on television but FB is getting better and better. It is superbly written and acted. Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman are so good.

I cannot wait for the rest of the series. PWB is very talented.

SoHotADragonRetired · 29/03/2019 11:03

I wouldn't be surprised if Boo and FB had playfully fucked or fooled around at least once - FB at least is flexible and impulsive - but I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if romantic love came into it. Like PPs, I increasingly feel that that's reductive. I don't think this is the show to be built around "twists" anyway - yes, the first series sort of had a "twist", but it was telegraphed pretty clearly in advance and stemmed more from Fleabag's denial and lying to herself than any kind of thriller/drama setup.

We've heard Boo say quite clearly she'd hurt herself so her boyfriend would have to visit her in hospital, it would be just silly and insulting for that to turn out to be PWB messing with us, and so far she seems smarter than that.

howmanyleftfeet · 29/03/2019 11:45

I know what the next episode is going to be about! I'm not going to do a spoiler though.

I came across a trailer for Season 2 online, it mentions something that hasn't happened yet (but not the wedding, which must surely be the last episode).

Now I know it, it's like "of course that's what happens next, can't believe I didn't think of that" although I don't want to spoil it for others. I don't feel it spoils it for me though as it really makes sense and it's how it plays out that's so worth watching.

The trailer is out there for anyone else who wants to know!

ShowOfHands · 29/03/2019 11:54

Oooh. I love a spoiler. Off to look...

Tootrousers · 29/03/2019 12:07

Agh!! The only trailers I can find have nothing in we haven’t seen!!

Connieston · 29/03/2019 12:13

The official trailer is easy to find and shows us at least one thing she does next, I wouldn't say it's particularly surprising though! Are you referring to the official one howmanyleftfeet ? Articles about the series that were released prior to the launch do contain more details about things that haven't happened yet...

howmanyleftfeet · 29/03/2019 12:16

Yes, the official one, here:

You're right it's totally unsurprising, but interesting that no one has actually predicted it on this thread!

NopeNi · 29/03/2019 12:24

Oy!

🤐

Connieston · 29/03/2019 12:40

This isn't a spoiler just a supposition but I wonder if Clare turns out to be a raging nympho and her husband is the downtrodden one.

RuffleCrow · 29/03/2019 13:06

I think it's more that Clare is changing and gradually freeing herself from him (and from herself!) And yes, seeing other people is part of that.

Dontloseyourhead · 29/03/2019 13:21

Even if the husband is downtrodden, he’s still an odious person.

Apologies to anyone trying to avoid spoilers! Oops

SoHotADragonRetired · 29/03/2019 14:16

Odious Martin is definitely not that downtrodden. He drinks heavily, harasses and gropes people, and doesn't seem to worry overmuch about offending Clare and her family. If Clare were seeing multiple someone elses I don't think anyone much would feel inclined to condemn her, I'd peg Martin as playing away all the time.

ghostpop · 29/03/2019 14:42

Spoilers why why why Sad

dameofdilemma · 29/03/2019 14:50

I’m not getting too hung up about what’s going on between the priest and FB. It’s a useful plot device for getting FB to open up a bit but the heart of the story is really FB, her grief, her self loathing and whether she’ll be able to come to terms with it.

Also don’t think Boo/FB was a romantic relationship - FB, desperate at the potential loss of her only friend to a boyfriend, sabotages their relationship in the hope of preventing Boo abandoning her.

Heart wrenching stuff. Brilliantly written.

Ellenborough · 29/03/2019 15:13

I'm halfway through the second episode of the first series as we speak. I'm not getting it AT ALL. So far it's just making me cringe and squirm. I don't might a bit of outrageous cringe but it needs to have a healthy cringe to humour ratio and so far I'm not getting any humour.

Do I really need to persevere with this? I was so looking forward to it. I'm disappointed.

NopeNi · 29/03/2019 15:22

If you don't find it funny at all by then, I don't think you suddenly will. You should probably find something else to enjoy Smile

SoHotADragonRetired · 29/03/2019 15:24

I don't think Fleabag is a comedy though. It's a character piece that involves some dark comedy. If you aren't at all interested in Fleabag as a character and are holding out for laughs, I'd probably say it isn't for you.

Tootrousers · 29/03/2019 15:52

Entirely agree that the HP is a plot device having thought about it more. Whilst he seemed like the right person for he, because he gets her, he isn’t and I’m hoping that’s another step for FB on her journey to working out who she is and what she wants and who would be right for her

Ellenborough · 29/03/2019 16:59

If you aren't at all interested in Fleabag as a character and are holding out for laughs, I'd probably say it isn't for you.

Well I guess it's too early to know whether I am or am not interested, but I was led to believe the show was dark but really funny. So far I'm finding it neither dark, nor funny. Just awkward.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 29/03/2019 17:02

Persevere @Ellenborough

I was exactly as you are now and stuck with it and now series two is paying the dividend of that in spades x
