Can't answer the question about Catholic priests frequenting meetings but I'd say it wasn't common!

The silence at a meeting can be very intense, or reflective, at times emotional or meditative (depending where your head is at the time) I'm imagining he goes there because the uncompletedness is release from his usual inner turmoil.

Personally I think he is more a spiritual person than religious (if that makes any sense). He went into the priesthood because that was his religion. He's quite conflicted with what he wants.

It's possibly I'm too invested in the characters. 😁

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 22:13

He’s not conventional though is he so I could totally get him trying things out and not being tied to one place even though he is committed to Catholicism. And for fleabag, for him to show her different sides of spirituality aside from the Catholic Church and to give her some silence in her contemplation (Tits!) I could be wrong though and maybe there is more significance

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 22:14

Makes perfect sense red

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 22:15

I'm waaaay too invested in the characters!

I can't deal with this-waiting-for-a-week-to-find-out-what-happens-next malarkey. I don't think I've done it in years!

Tootrousers · 26/03/2019 22:17

I know, me too!!

RosaWaiting · 26/03/2019 22:22

I think he wanted to see what Fleabag would say when faced with complete silence.

Clearly I'm seeing him as a master manipulator when others are not seeing that at all.

I didn't know this was the final series!

Skandinaviem · 26/03/2019 22:37

Do we actually know what happened to Boo? There’s hints in s1 about FB sleeping with Boo’s neighbour (who becomes her bf?) and then it’s explained as Boo walked into cycle lane, in hope of injuring herself and bf would feel bad and visit her in hospital, but then it went wrong and 3 people died. Who were the other people? Is that relevant? God it’s just so staggeringly brilliant. I love PWB!!

Dontloseyourhead · 26/03/2019 22:57

Hmmm rosawaiting if he has to be in control maybe that makes sense, I do think he has a problem with sex as fleabag does for some reason.

I agree - counting down the days. So this is the final season? Arghhh!

howmanybiscuits · 26/03/2019 23:09

I didn't know this was the final series!

The last series was the final series too Grin

PWB didn't want to write another series after the first one - until the idea for it came to her, and then she did.

From the interview I read, it sounds like she's got no plans to do another series now, which is good in a way as we'll get a proper ending to this one (hopefully!) - but if she gets an idea for something else to do with Fleabag, then you never know...

If it ever does happen it's unlikely it'll be any time soon, though.

Did you know she does Fleabag as stand-up? It's where the show came from. I bet her shows will be totally booked out by people missing Fleabag on TV now! And if she runs with that, she's sure to develop the character, and come up with more genius ideas for another season - isn't she?!..... (Please say she does!)

Soverytiredofeverythinggoingon · 26/03/2019 23:15

Any and none religions can be uskes

Soverytiredofeverythinggoingon · 26/03/2019 23:16

Quakers!

Pengrin · 26/03/2019 23:17

I too think Neil instead of kneel.

Also don’t think he’s broken the 4th wall, just looking in the direction she does - as he has done several times already trying to find where it is she goes in her mind. He heard the bit about the neck because she said it to him, not us.

I think he’s great for her!

birdsandroses · 27/03/2019 02:05

I love this programme!

Can someone tell me why she was so annoyed in the cafe when he said he was just trying to help her? Is it because he wasn’t treating her as a friend then but like someone he is ministering to? So it felt patronising?

I am struggling to think kneel was meant to be Neil. Surely if he meant that he would look v surprised to see her kneeling when he pulled the curtain back?

I view him just as troubled as her.

Travelledtheworld · 27/03/2019 05:35

birdsandroses yes I think because he had switched roles from being a Friend and back to bring a Priest. But also because FB knows she needs help, but she can't ask for it, so his offer hit a raw nerve and she reacted with anger.

RuffleCrow · 27/03/2019 06:57

Fleabag season 2 has made my jaw drop for many reasons, not least the HP storyline.

I've had a very similar crush for the past year and had actually started writing about it as a form of therapy but of course PWB has absolutely nailed it!

I wish i could introduce you all to the hot vicar in question - the amount of times ive been sat in the pew thinking "his arms! His beautiful arms!" Hoping i wasnt about to say it out loud. To make matters worse he usually preaches in a t-shirt, not a cassock in sight. Low anglican is where all the hot clergy have got to. Of course that means they're all literally married rather than just metaphysically Grin

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 27/03/2019 07:12

Perhaps HP will himself disrupt the wedding of her dad, by running away? or something

spiderlight · 27/03/2019 09:39

I saw it on stage - absolutely incredible.

Volcanite · 27/03/2019 09:40

As Hugh Dennis is returning in this series my punt is that FB will end up with him. She seemed so at ease with him at the retreat and he's the only person she's let help her so far (with the bank loan). And the twist will be that they re-meet at the wedding... and he is the Godmother's brother Grin

Goatrider · 27/03/2019 09:55

I've just had a look at the cast listings now that you've said that.

I now think I shouldn't have looked a there are some I'm surprised about. Won't say any more.

ThanksItHasPockets · 27/03/2019 10:05

Can we please have a warning if we’re going to have cast spoilers? I’ll look away if so.

PresidentHump · 27/03/2019 10:16

Fucking spoilers. Ugh. Leaving this thread now. Fucksake

Hollowvictory · 27/03/2019 10:43

People saying she went to church to pray not to seduce the priest, I don't agree. She has said many times she doesn't believe in God she only goes to the church to hang out with the priest and is desperate to get it on with him, 'gorgeous neck' etc

Tootrousers · 27/03/2019 11:02

Yes but she was starting to pray, I think by this point she had started to search for something and become ever so slightly more open to spirituality and maybe even religion, I think she was going to give it a go. It’s no coincidence that we saw her live through the funeral of her mum, she was feeling hugely vulnerable and needed something so I think she did go there to pray

ThanksItHasPockets · 27/03/2019 11:09

She didn’t expect him to be there. It was 9.45 and she knew from last week that he would normally have been in bed.

Connieston · 27/03/2019 11:17

I wonder what happened to the woman who the priest shares the digs with - she must have been out for him to be so loud! Maybe she was out!

Hugh Dennis was married and desperately wanted to go back to his wife in the first series so I don't expect Fleabag will end up with him!

I expect the stolen statue to make a reappearance...
